This is it!!! I have not been able to master ripple stitch but this I can do! Thank you, thank you. I go to a craft group where we crochet for charity. I like to do something different to the usual granny stitch that is done but as you can imagine there is a lot of chatter going on while we are crocheting. I need things that are not complicated yet look nice, that are easy for me to do while chatting. This one is really good. I love it.

This is a nice pattern, thank you.😊 There are so many variations of the ripple stitch! I am currently working on a wide scarf/ wrap in a ripple stitch using variagated yarn and it shows off the colours beautifully. The pattern I am working on uses half double crochet stitches which automatically gives you a ridge without working in the back loop only. The pattern I am using skips two stitches in the dip. The only thing I don't like is that because of the way a half double crochet stitch is formed the gaps in the dip do not look symmetrical, and I like symetry! 😁 If I do another ripple stitch I would do one more like your pattern. It looks nicer.😊

So pretty and your tutorials are the best! Thank you for clearly explaining and showing each stitch. My question is about yarn..I’ve made a few afghans using dk weight acrylic yarn, and while I love the weight and ease in crocheting, I hate the pilling. Do you think cotton yarn would be better in that regard? Thank you for all your awesome videos…you have been responsible for so many projects in my household!!😂😂
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
I’m so happy that you’ve enjoyed the videos, thank you for telling me! That’s a great question on the yarn. I have to admit that I’m using the cotton because they work so well for the videos but I haven’t completed a full blanket with this yarn to give you an objective answer 😕 The closest I have used and washed is a yarn that is a blend of cotton with nylon (créme cotton by loops & threads) and I haven’t experienced any pilling. I’ve heard great things about the anti pilling yarn by Premier Yarns . I’m not sure it comes in a dk weight but I’d recommend giving it a try. I plan on it as well. 👍🏻💕

Hi Roz!! I love this video!! I’ve been watching tons of ripple blanket videos for the last couple of days, trying to find someone who speaks very clearly, explains it very clearly, has a great camera in focus, the right color yarn that you’re using to teach with, etc., and yours is by far the best!!! I’m getting ready to start my very first crochet blanket project using your video and pattern!😱 I just want to point out, I really like those stitch markers that you are using in this video! They seem like they would be easier to insert and to remove with just one hand, and without it getting stuck. I hate the two types of markers I have! Can you possibly tell me where I can find the type you use? I’ve looked through Amazon a bit, and I don’t see anything like those. What gives?😉😁 Btw….what a fantastic suggestion to use the markers in both of the ways you mentioned….in the base chain stitches, and for marking the peaks & valleys. That should keep me from missing or losing a stitch!

I would recommend that you chain up to the 36 inches using the multiple as your guide to get close to that width. I can’t give you a specific number because I don’t know the hook and yarn size you’re using. That will make a difference to the count as well as your tension 💕

Thank you … I weave as I go but after a few rows when I’m sure I’ve got my stitch count correct. I don’t like to carry them while I do the next row because sometimes it shows through or I just plain forget. Thanks for the clear instructions on this pattern. How much width do you lose from the foundation row with this pattern. I want to make a blanket 30 inches wide so how wide should my foundation row be?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
Hi Heather , I actually didn’t notice much of a change in the width, surprisingly. For example , I did a small test and the initial chain measured 6 in . After row 1 , it reduced to 5.5 in . By row 2 , it bounced back to 6 in. 😅💁🏼‍♀️ I’d recommend trying on a test swatch with your yarn but I think you’ll be fine 👍🏻🧶

hi! are you able to use a 4 weight yarn with a larger hook, like a size 8 hook and still keep the shape of the ripple? want to make sure before i do enough rows to find out for myself 😅
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 10 месяцев назад
That's probably a bit too big for a weight 4 yarn. It can't hurt to give it a try but I'd recommend getting closer to the required hook size for your yarn. xx

oooh this looks very nice 👀 I was thinking of making a skirt with this stitch, would this work in the round/back and forth with the sides joined? (I was originally planning on increasing every handful of rows as i went to make a fuller, swooshy skirt but I’m assuming it definitely wouldn’t work with this stitch pattern lol)
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
I’m not sure how to work this in the round… you’d have to try it and see if it lines up for you. I’d try on a smaller swatch and see what happens .. also you’re going to want to figure out where to place the hook to get the back loop effect. I’m sure it’s doable - I’ve just never tried. You might want to with it flat then seam up the side to make your skirt 💕

I love this pattern so much and it's simpl and easy to follow but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong when I am not coming out right at the end of the first row. I use stitch markers and recount my stitches , I have even pulled out stitches and recounted but I cannot get the first row correct so can't go any farther any suggestions would be helpful.i also use stitch markers at the peaks and dips.
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
Oh what a shame . One thing I noticed with the stitch markers….place them on the upper loop of the chain and try your best not to pull too tight on the yarn as you reinsert your hook to continue making chains. The chain can tighten and disappear on you. I would recommend that you start with a smaller chain and practice on it and then try again with your main project. You’ll get it to work 🙌🏻🧶💕 If all else fails , try this : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p8v1xEFmd5M.html

@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Год назад
I’m sorry , I don’t have a written pattern available but this is a fairly popular stitch so I imagine if you googled it, you would be able to find something. Search, “ripple stitch using double crochet increase and decrease “ or, “easy ripple using double crochets” Once you get used to the sequence it’s very easy to mentally memorize. You could do a voice note on your phone if the tremors are too severe to write it down for yourself , maybe. 💕

@@cindycover3675 oh, that’s great 😀 For me, they have been worth it but I started by just buying 1 to see how it felt in my hand . What is a good number of chains for a baby blanket. Doesn't need to be huge. Thanks!
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 4 месяца назад
There are different kinds . A receiving blanket is about 36x36 inches and a stroller size would be 30 x35 inches. You can Google baby blanket size to see what suits you best. Then work your chain up to the first number using the multiple recommended. I can’t say specifically since I don’t know the yarn weight and hook size you’re using. I’d have to manually do what I suggested here to know 💕

It will depend on the hook and yarn you’re using . I’d recommend chaining to the measurement you want to reach. Typical throw sizes: 45 x 55 inches 45 x60 inches 50 x 60 inches (Make your chain using the first number in the measurement examples)
