Almost everything I've learned about wrestling I've gotten since I started training in Jiujitsu, and I love the techniques. Especially for takedowns. I hated struggling to get an opponent to the mats then after learning some technique from wrestling, it got easier and easier. Those that know how difficult it is to take a resisting person to the ground will understand why it is scored highly in MMA.

Wrestling, BJJ/Judo is a science, having the ability to grind is good but having finesse and skill is another level. When two meatheads clash the one with timing, skill, patience, determination, guile, technique and know how will prevail. Spot on Coach B!

I do appreciate that you place technique over raw tenacity. Two guys can fist fight but one guy can just bring a bat 😂.

Only issue im seeing is the damn tiny mat sizes I usually compete (bjj) on. Feel like Id be off the mat before I got the leg

Coach, why do people like to bring the leg high like that instead of just doing a simple cutback finish?
@TeachMeGrappling
@TeachMeGrappling Год назад
The higher the leg the more takedowns happen... having said that there are good low finishes as well.

@@TeachMeGrappling my coach told me to use set up or distraction when shoot single leg. Was that right , coach ? He said "you can't just shoot like that because your opponent will sprawl".
@bantamweightngannou
@bantamweightngannou Год назад
Yeah, but when we bring the leg high like that, can't the guy throw powerful punches to our defenseless head?
@myriamdahmen8500
@myriamdahmen8500 3 месяца назад
@@bantamweightngannou It all depends on their balance and base. If they have good balance over a good base, like how a boxer digs into the ground and sits on their punches, yes. If the leg is lifted high enough that it challenges their mobility and there is enough movement to keep them off balance and back-pedaling, no.

Hey coach, I think the guy you are talking about that said you can easily slip out of the foot hold is @WrestlingUniversity. He talks about it here 3 minutes in: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EKNnvx7EWzY.html. It seems he is applying the heel hook type hold like you adressed. I personally like his videos very much, and think he does a good job of explaining the intricate techniques of wrestling like you always do. Loved your response to this tho, it was very educational. Thanks!

Yes that was the one. It has some good stuff in there but overall I wasn't very impressed. I'm pretty picky with my technique though. In the end, its great to have different perspectives for different people.

One of the biggest lies in Jiu-jitsu is that wrestling is all strength and no technique. Strength has virtually nothing to do with whether your lat drop is successful or you fall on your back like an idiot.

often when people get the leg under the armpit, it leads to a takedown... but is there a more optimal technique? a guaranteed leglock? Can you stirke the knee in a certain way and hurt your opponent wihtout him being able to retaliate?
