Lauren’s Grape is my favorite! I have had great success with my poppies and save my seeds. A couple of weeks ago I sent my niece, (who just bought a 1910 home on property in Montana) my saved seeds plus 5 other varieties for her to sow on top of the snow! We’re both so excited to see what happens!

That is awesome! I wish her success. I hope mine sown in the snow do well and that the ones in front of my greenhouse path don't get decimated by gophers but it is worth a try! I want so many more this year, and when the seeds are free, why not.

Good morning Pamela! 😊 I bought a half pound of red poppy seeds from American Meadows last year and forgot to put them out! Lol 😂 I've kept them in the fridge... so this is a great reminder for me to get them out. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I have a memorial garden for my son on the property here... he loved poppies, hollyhocks and sunflowers 🌻 so I'm excited to see if I can get a huge and glorious showing of poppies over there. 😊

Sounds great! I love Memorial Gardens. Mine is one huge one, I pick plants that have a name of a loved one and plant them around the garden. I should do a vid on just that and share what I have so far.

Pam I have Oriental royal wedding white poppy with black and purple centre. They are gorgeous and come back every year. I would be more than happy to send you some seeds. This as such an informative video! I only have the one poppy but I did buy some seeds and hopefully will get some new varieties this spring. I must have 10 different anemones in various colours and I love them so much! They bloom much longer than poppies and look very similar. My favourite is "Wild Swan" it reblooms for at least 2 months and is so pretty. I love the way you experiment with your planting and try different options. Have a great day!

Thanks for chiming in, Liz! Poppies are so easy they are worth the pop of $$ and many times you won't need to ever buy again, unless you want to try a specific color.

If we don’t get enough rain or snow I will set them in a tray of water and let them absorb it for half an hour, then remove them from the tray and place back in the garden.

When I started planting seeds last year I asked my husband what he would like me to add and he said poppies so I got four different kinds.. I’m thinking I’ll do some inside, some winter sowing, and some direct sown in the snow. ❄️ I hope I have some luck!!

I haven't seen anyone have luck sowing them indoors. Direct sow or winter sow. They need cold temps.

My husband’s cousin in ME had a white pine branch poke through the roof like a javelin. His wife had just left the room 😮. Those white pine are brittle and break easy. I believe they removed all around the house now.

I could listen to you always very informative, but I want to know do u water the jugs and how do u plant the poppies later..
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse 5 месяцев назад
If we don't get enough precipitation yes, I will bottom water the jugs by placing them in a tub or tray to absorb it for half an hour, then drain and place back on the ground. I mentioned it but must not be clear, when time to plant out in the garden I just take big chunks of the soil and place where I want them, there will be more than one poppy in each chunk. I will be sure to take everyone along when I plant these out in the garden, barring any disaster that may kill them all. Like the 9 feet of snow we got last year.

They can, I had some come up last year from my tossing out seeds. I will admit I didn't get a lot for the amount of seeds I tossed out but I was happy with what I got.

Would the poppies cross if planted close together? Would like to save seed. I had great success with red poppies as a test in WS and this spring I will need to get them away from bee balm as they are a bit more aggressive than bee balm. 😊. I plant them out in chunks also and boy do they take off! The bread seed and Laurence Grape didn’t do well in WS last year. I already commented on another video that it was too warm here in winter and warmer still this year. I will wait til after this week and think it’s safe with temps more winter than spring. I’ll set them on the east side of house to start. So. Cal is having a lot of rain and I guess a tree fell on someone, but I think that was in the north. Hope you’re not getting soaked.
@FlowerPatchFarmhouse

We are in N. California and though we are getting rained on quite a bit but we are not in immediate danger of flooding. The ski resort got well over 3 feet of snow, which is needed. If it is too warm to start the poppies I would toss a bunch in a baggie with damp potting soil and pop in the fridge for a couple weeks then toss into the garden. Maybe it will help. Someone told me to put them in a damp coffee filter or paper towel in a sandwich bag and freeze overnight and that is enough to help germination but I haven't had great success with that yet. But that could be me as she swears by it.

I only water if we don't get much precipitation. When I do water, I set the jugs in a tray or tub of water and let them absorb it for half an hour. Then I remove them from the water and set them back out. Half an hour is enough for them to absorb what they need.

@@FlowerPatchFarmhousethe other worst bug is squash vine borer which some say Idaho has, but not too much in the west. The Japanese beetle we have to use several traps on the acreage. They say they draw them in, but if we didn’t use them we wouldn’t be able to go outside. They fly in your hair down your shirt. Beetles have a lot of bacteria and I got bit and a bad infection from them. Our property is a few acres and narrow and neighbors do nothing with theirs and I battle that, buckthorn and black walnuts. 🙄 We have a new pest coming from the east-Spotted Lantern Fly and it has been seen in IL. They don’t fly but a hundred feet but they hitch rides. It’s an awful bug from what I’ve read. I’m Z5a, WI.
