I use a Montana Graffiti refillable marker for edge painting. Usually Feibings edge coat. The huge empty marker body is refillable and the nibs are replaceable. Had mine for about three years and have not had to replace the nib. The only thing I have to do is add some distilled water to the edge coat occasionally. No waste. No spilling. Got this idea from Little King Goods (Ryan)

Good tip. I mostly use edge paint to 'freshen up' old/second hand things and have applied it with a brush so far. But a refillable marker sounds very convenient.
@bbrachman
@bbrachman 3 года назад
@@raraavis7782 I use every surface of the marker tip depending on the thickness of the leather. The flat tip and the side of the nib fits well on thin edges. I use this because I mess up with every other way I ever learned. The marker is easy to control.

Well, that makes easy work of it, for sure. I love edge paint, because the edge is often the part of a bag or belt or such, where wear and tear shows most. Being able to fix that is a very handy skill.

I am looking back but did not find anything dedicated to glues. I am building my own buckets seat, console, door panels and sun visors that require skiving. Glues are great for holding things together while your sew a sun visors skies and folded and backing a true French seam. Pins, staples and different staplers come in handy. Many say, we’ll make a purchase a a shoe store! Great but gone with virus. No one line sells much more than Weldwood contact cement that works well or Weldwood Landou top adhesive for spraying. I have much more equipment than one should be allowed to have. In severe pain after bending, but I have been an automotive certified ASE Master Tech since 1978. I am building a vehicle for me that just happens to be 54 years old but being equipped with a Tahoe drive train. Yes automatic with over drive. It is my daily 6’ 3” tall guy truck I can fit into and drive. Thanks for the clean spoken instructions and the time it takes to edit, re-watch and upload! Ed402 of the North!

Simply amazing! I have two questions. With this paint, you will get this rubbery finish or it's another type of product/procedure? and, what can I use if I want to finish the edge on chrome tanned leather? Thanks!

Could you please make a video on how to sharpen edge bevelers please?
@MacBookAir-cu4fb
@MacBookAir-cu4fb 3 года назад
Pretty easy to do: just take a piece of thread, slide it through sharpening compound and then take the beveler and slide it through the Thread. Don’t know how to explain it otherwise.

I was also curious about the outcome of the pincushion, did it work like expected? How do you feel about using the edge paint after burnishing the cushion edges, as far as durability is concerned? And finally, did you forget to wash off your new "scraper" at the end of the video?? 🤫

You're not supposed to bevel the edge before you edge paint. You need a sharp edge so the paint doesn't bleed easily onto the front.
@Corter
@Corter 3 года назад
Like I said in the video a few times you normally wouldn't bevel if you're painting - but if the tool is good enough to not bleed on a beveled edge it's a pretty good tool :) this didn't bleed, which is why we tested it on a beveled edge. Plus rounded painted edges are super duper luxurious to handle!
@Viking_Kong

I, personally, don't like edge paint because, over time, it peels off. I prefer to dye the edge with whatever dye color and then burnish it. Sure, the edge paint is probably classier, but then again, it's not really my style either. :)

You said u dont want to sound like a spokesman but aren't you a weaver spokesman?
@Corter
@Corter 3 года назад
nope! they sponsor our videos but we're in no way obligated to speak highly of anything they make - we make sure to speak honestly and give our opinions on what are good tools you might want to look into, and what are things you probably don't need to spend money on to make a good piece of leather craft :) We've been Weaver customers for 10 years before we started working with them, and we reached out to them to work together because we wanted more people to know about them as a really good supplier and innovator in the leather tool space. We love and use their products all the time. Almost every single Weaver tool you see us use was in our shop and bought with our own money before we started working with them with the exception of the Little Wonder, and I went out and bought 2 more after they sent us one - our Weaver presses are over 10 years old! So when they send us a tool and we like it, that's of our own accord. They're not paying us to say good things about anything they make.
