Question.... Now the cables are clipped to the wall studs....and you fix your pattress battens between them and then mount your back boxes on them......doesn't that make all your cable out of zone? especially if the client has it boarded out internally as you mentioned he might do...which will make your cables not comply with BS7671 and the building regs and you have been notified of this prior to starting the electical work????
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical 8 месяцев назад
You could well be right there, depends what they do really, if the building gets battened out to fit the insulation it would need then they would be deeper than 50mm in the wall so it wouldn’t matter anyway, we would have to go back and change the patresses to knock outs anyway before they did anything so I suppose we could change it, out of 55 thousand people to watch the video tho your the only one to say this 👏 fair play

@JRCElectrical

The loading of the circuit needs to be worked out and from there can be calculated (power in watts / voltage) that’s the amps needed for the circuit, calculate cable from there

Would the 13 amp fuse limit what stuff you could use in the shed, also did you have to use a 3 amp spur for the lights, trying to find out if I can save some money and not have another consumer unit in my garden Room and run armoured cable all the way to the front of the house and just spur off like you guys did here, any advice would be much appreciated 👍
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical Год назад
It would limit what you can use but this one would just be used for charging and other bits like that, to be plugging heaters and things in we would have needed a bigger supply back to the board and a fuseboard in garden room Yeah fuse the lights down
@adamdavis2788
@adamdavis2788 Год назад
For most sheds it people won’t draw more than a couple of amps a larger supply is only really necessary when welders/large tools are being used in the shed. It all depends on what you plan to use now and in the future.

Great video. Looking to do something similar. What's the best way to work out if you'd need a consumer unit or not? I'm looking to turn my small 8x8ft summer house into a studio. Probably two twin sockets either side: one for a desk setup (MacBook/screen/small speakers etc) and another for maybe a TV and Xbox. I have an outdoor socket already coming from an indoor socket. Could I run off that (around 10ft away) or would it be too much daisy-chaining?
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical Месяц назад
If your using it for just that it would be fine run off an outdoor spur next to the double socket i would imagine as long as socket is wired correctly, maybe wire the socket and spur as part of the ring if possible

So that house owner now has a non compliant power source to their shed. Not buried at all, 600mm depth is the advice where it likely to be disturbed (it's in a flower bed). Yes it is notifiable for those that asked. No sign of warning tape with is typically about 150mm above the cable but that cable isn't even 150mm deep to start. Under paths patios etc are not likely to be disturbed so far less depth is required. Do not copy that example, or you could end up in trouble.

Love your videos mate. Great sense of humour. Where else do you find that on RU-vid hey! Would there be any value in a she consumer unit in this scenario? I have an outdoor socket on a 16amp breaker and was planning to spur from there with 2.5mm SWA running down the garden to the shed. It’s around 15 metres. Would appreciate your thoughts on this pal.
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical 4 месяца назад
Cheers dude, if you’re just running a 2.5 down there I wouldn’t install a fuseboard in there, 10mm or 6mm I would install one tho Depends what power you need down there really but just for basic socket for charging batteries or something and lighting it will be fine from 2.5mm
@tullysoutregiusroyals

How do you go about this if you have a shed/cabin requiring more power? 10-15 double sockets and lighting (2-3 rings) all To one breaker internal to a shed. Where will this breaker get its electrical feed from? Breaker in the house?
@JRCElectrical

Would either need a seperate 32/40 amp feed from fuseboard or a sub main going down into the shed/cabin

So if the mrs is in the kitchen with the microwave and kettle, extraction fan and the tv on the wall and then I plug in my 110v 3kva transformer to run my makita chopsaw and blue tooth 110 makita extraction hoover and a small fan heater with my batteries for my drills on charge and the lights on and 240v stereo,, are you sure that it wont trip out , cuz I don't want to be walking back and forth into the house to keep flicking up the breaker and then having to keep resetting the time on the microwave and cooker. Or is it better to come from the consumer board on its own 20a circuit. What you think..
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical 2 месяца назад
If your using a lot of power then yeah defo come from the board, if it’s just to charge tools and things then it’s fine, any time heater is mentioned it’s a larger draw so would be better on its own circuit

I wouldn't dream of running anything other than 10mm, youve already said the shed use will evolve. Why fit underrated cable now, then have to re run thicker cable in future? Also are you ducting the cable to give it airspace or buried direct into the soil. And what about a consumer unit in the shed? Are you really spurring off an outside socket which is spured off a house circuit? How about metal clad sockets in the shed at the bare minimum? Where does this installation meet any regs? What the disconnection time?
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical 4 месяца назад
We normally install a bigger cable and fuseboard in outbuildings as you will see on our channel if that’s specified and wanted in there, sometimes it’s not and the customer just wants sockets and or lights, so that’s what we quote for
@seanwalker6878
@seanwalker6878 Год назад
Thought cables had to be buried 600mm deep per regs?
@JRCElectrical
@JRCElectrical Год назад
My understanding is that it has to burried at a depth where it’s not going to be damaged by a shovel, we have ran this around the perimeter of the garden not through the middle so won’t be damaged by a shovel and under the slab it’s under a concrete slab so won’t be damaged, if the slab ever gets lifted you can see the cable is there I could be wrong tho 😂
@woody186294
@woody186294 Год назад
@@JRCElectrical your understanding is wrong, check the regs.
@adamdavis2788
@adamdavis2788 Год назад
Let’s be honest here it’s no different to clipping it to the fence at the back of the flowerbed and that is compliant. It’s an armoured cable, made of correctly on both sides bonded to earth and it’s on an rcd so if you went though the cable it will trip instantly. It’s safer than the spike lighting that you see installed in flowerbeds with flex underground.

But before i do the insides, thinking running rubber 2 inch 3 inch pipe with sprinklers on them. Use a rain catchment system, with like CO2 boost like a soda stream. Where does the law stand with electric fences for private use?. but instead of it going around a field, i wire it in between the inner and owta wall. Nothing daft, also thought of doing the floor like a bug zapper, but use one of them timer mi thingy mi bobs, where it knows somebody is there, but i want a 15 second window before arming, So every footstep back would zap the thieves all the way back out of the property lol.

@Cyberpunk_Banshee
@Cyberpunk_Banshee Год назад
@@adamdavis2788yup, the fused spur keeps everything from melting, 2.5mm will easily take over 13 amps though so that's not the main worry. The only issue I see with coming off a fused spur is trip times, if the cable run is long then it could do with an earth spike. But if this is a budget install that's not gonna happen.😅
