Many people are not aware of how important the success of the easy beats was to the influence of AC/DC. George young learned a lot from this success and passed his knowledge onto his younger brothers. Thus why the young brothers were able to maintain creative control.
Fantastic memories for this dinosaur. Sounds like they weren't miming but singing live. A lot of current singers could learn a thing or 2 from this video. RIP Stevie and George.
I still have a tear for Stevie Wright the incredible heartbreakiing journey of addiction and the treatments that took away his ability to right songs for 10 yrs, such a powerful singer and charasmatic personality to die at such a young age. He will at least be at peace from his demons.
The psychopathic Dr Harry Bailey, Chelmsford Private Hospital- (32 patients died from electro convulsive and deep sleep "therapy" under his "care")...Stevie went there for help, survived the treatment, but I believe that was part of his decline, along with his habit...tragic.
Love the way the bassline swings up and down all over the song, Angus Young's big brother George on rhyrhm and his Sydney NSW Dillewood Migrant Camp Dutch mate Harry Vanda (now called the Dillewood Detention Camp in 2021).
HARRY VANDA (Dutch immigrant) blonde guy on bass standing beside rhythm guitaris GEORGE YOUNG (Scottish immigrant) and big brother of ACDC's Angus & Malcolm Young showing exactly how migrants should integrate into Australian society. Their families met up in the Sydney New South Wales Villawood Migrant Camp, now called the Villawood Detention Centre. ....Friday On My Mind ..... their biggest hit.
I always have loved the Easybeats! I don’t think they got the recognition due them. Especially, I thought Stevie Wright was one of the best frontmen. He had great energy and really put emotion into his singing.
I'm an American and I remember Friday on my mind on the radio but nothing else by this group. Thought they were one hit wonders. Only in the last week have I learned about the band and lstarted watchin their videos. These guys are damn good and I agree they weren't recogzized as much as they deserved outside Australia.
@@lindsaykelly2224 If he did then he hardly had any emerging music on his shows. Sandy Scott, Col Joye, Little Patty, and Judy Stone was his stable of "prog" acts. I was a teenager in the 60's and Bandstand certainly did not appeal to me. Hendo was as progressive as a cardigan.
That abrupt ending of "That's all!" to "She's So Fine" caught some of the go-go dancers off-guard. The lead gal in the front mistakenly started up again, only to find herself dancing to no music anymore.
Stevie and the boys look as though they were having a lot of fun. They (like most) probably couldn't believe that they had landed on Bandstand with a gaggle of go-go dancers! Hendo's introduction explains all....
I believe for this segment, Bandstand's usual compliment of four female dancers was supplemented by the troupe of another Channel Nine music show, Saturday Date.
Brian "hendo" wasn't a total square.. he did get to have some fun on bandstand.. Brian was the Sydney 9 news anchor for decades, and after he hosted ( Australian) bandstand Brian would have to literally run to the n e next studio to read the nightly news.. from his "this is your life" episode Australia was told that Brian had a wickedly funny sense of humour..
No intro was needed 'cause everyone in Australia knew their name. This was Bandstand, very rare they had groups on, a more middle of the road show, they couldn't get them on their show for a long time. She's So Fine was their second hit.
Go go dance anyway, when you get the chance. Ps. you are a go go dancer. And if it seems it has only forever been in you heart, I say thats not true, anyhow and soon as sure enough you will be out dancing on a floor either in this life or somewhere there through gods golden door.
In Chicago USA there was a children's dance show called "Kiddie A-Go-Go", which featured 9-year-olds and the like go-go dancing "just like your big brothers and sisters"! I didn't live in Chicago so I never even knew this existed till the 1990s. But had you been there, your little nine year old self could very well have achieved your dream.
When they went to the UK the producers told them to change their stye because it was too naive and teeny-bobber-beat. Told Stevie Wright to stop writing songs and so Vanda and Young took over from Wright and Young. But Wright and Young had spourned hits like those here, plus Woman (make you Feel Alright), Come and See Her, Sorry, Wedding Ring to name just a few. Producers in UK told them to make more sophisticated pop. Critics laughed at their tight matching suits. They made on successful song - 'Friday on My Mind' a staple legacy hit for ever and ever and a cultural/social bottler, a few rambly psychedelic songs some that had good bits in them messed up with mush, and a couple of rockers like Good Times and Show me the Way to St Louis that went nowhere at the time. Back in Australia and broke in 1969 they looked jaded except Vanda and Young who whilst present, looked like they had checked out. A final tour and good bye. BUt what a great bunch of musos and a classic 1960s story. I suppose very few mod-beat bands could survive 1967 and still be relevant. Small Faces kind of. Kinks, kind of.
Oh kind of kind of believe me they are still remembered overseas as well and psychedelic songs were all around us they were TENACIOUS they hit hard and wouldn't lay down we should honour them
@@lindsaykelly2224 Really? I can't hear it and I tried hard - back in the 80s - when I was consumed by the mod-beat-pop of the mid 60s. I hear little pieces within those songs that are so cool and would have been fantastic on their own - like I wished they could have built entire songs on them ....like the Velvet Underground would have. Instead they seemed to need to 'cover all bases' and added too many parts and style changes. I think George Young said it was a trap to try to make many styles all at once, and when ACDC was made, they went the compete opposite direction. One formula - One trillio0n dollars.
@@mebeasensei they were a better outfit than Ac/Dc the variety was magic and I know people wanted same and same but we are left with something we can listen to as our moods fit
