Hello, I have a sincere question, is there any Coincil of the first Ecumencal Coincils that states that the bishop of Rome has the final authority or word in matter of interpretation of Scriptures? Which one is it if there is one? Thank you in advance.

NO. Not in the sense of OVER the other bishops and entire Church. Look at the Acts of the Apostles and the Council in Jerusalem. That is the place of Peter, and every bishop, in the Church: a voice - perhaps a very powerful voice - among his brethren. Out of love and respect they listen - not because he has POWER OVER THEM.

Was this Oecumenical Council attended by delegates from Spain, Portugal or England, and what did they have to say? How did they vote? How did they report back to their respective synods or bishops' conferences, if I may use a modern expression?

Question please! Some object and say "but the creed of the spirit proceeding is from the Constantinople I council NOT NICEA" and therefore the anathema of Constantinople 4 would condemn Constantinople 1 for "changing or adding to the creed". How would you awnser this? For me i have 2 ways but i want to know from your experience. 1. Anathemas only properly work going FORWARD not looking back. So you can't anathema someone earlier than you for a later declared doctrine. 2. The 8th council cites Constantinople 1 creed AS THE NICEAN CREED thereby clarifying that if anyone adds to the Nicean creed AS READ OUT ACCORDING TO THE CONSTANTINOPLE 1 DEFINITION: let him be anathema

Who are the "some"? From what the fathers declare is not an addition but a change. The main concern was to not translate it into other languages, as the fear was that is when the Symbol of Faith would be changed in meaning! You will find in most Greek parishes recited in the language of the people and in Greek! Even the Thrice Holy Hymn was revealed in Greek and so again, in Greek parishes outside of Greece will sing in Greek, and if your lucky, maybe in the language of the parish if not Greek.

The name came to be - short-hand - the Nicean Creed but what was meant always was the full creed of Nicea-Constantinople, as it witnessed to by the Council minutes (of 879) and that we always recite the entire creed even if we only say the Nicea Creed.

Father Peter is it possible that Filioque heresy was brought forth by the Roman/Western Church because it "promoted" the "vicar of christ" mentality that Jesus the created son of God gave the Holy Spirit to the Church,not the uncreated Father God,who is creator of all. Roman Church wanted "created man to give the gift of the Holy Spirit"not God alone. Hope make some sense and am i on the right track.

Ofcourse, the so-called 8th and 9th councils were not called by emperors as the previous 7...also they are not in the services of the Church as is the 7!

@pj-vu3cn that would be an innovation, as the services commemorate the First Ecumenical Council as that of the Holy Fathers! Your obviously NOT orthodox, or just from Academia lacking the holiness of those illumined and being sanctified through partaking of the Holy Mysteries. Your pick!

@pj-vu3cn "Apostolic Council" is correct, "the very FIRST Ecumenical Council in jerusalem" is wrong! Which is it? Apostolic Council or FIRST Ecumenical Council? Is it your NOT Orthodox, or a follower of worldly Academia? Your pick!

@OrthodoxEthos yes, the "so-called eigth" confirmed the the Seventh. While the Council of Crete was to confirm the Eigth and Ninth, but failed to have the authority, since other Local Orthodox churches boycotted it. When in doubt, go to the Services! It won't be Universally accepted until Services are prayed! Until then the so-called eigth is referred to "The Coucil held in the time of Photios". Tnx for the coversation...luv the channel!
