It would be beneficial for the body of Orthodox Christians if someone would take the pains to translate into English the Tome of Joy by Dositheus of Jerusalem, if a translation of it doesn't already exist.
Forgive me, but this reading is harsh on the ears to listen to. Sounds Protestant. You couldn’t find a better recorder to read this text? You should ask Athonite Audio.
Affirmation of subsequent Councils or not is precisely what makes an Ecumenical Council, “Ecumenical”. Ephesus, “the Robber Council” was declared as such by subsequent Council. If that had not occurred the Robber Council would likely have been what? Like The Eight Council, neither Ecumenical nor Heretical. This doesn’t necessarily erode the authority of the Canon of the Eighth Council but neither is it ecumenical in the same regards as the Seven. After all how much Tradition and Canon has been established by Synod and “lesser” councils. The only difference is Controversy. The Controversies of the Eighth Council remain and are unresolved because there is no Orthodox Bishop in Rome as there should be then and now. The Roman Pontiff who is outside of Orthodoxy and the Body of Christ shouldn’t be given any greater latitude than Greg Laurie and a new Orthodox Bishop in Rome should be installed just as was done in Alexandria with the Monophysite Controversy. Or, I’m completely stupid.
Ephesus II was heretical. The only verifiable mechanism of ecumenicity has been reception of all the synods, specifically the five ancient patriarchates. Now that Rome is in schism, we have not since received a consensus teaching as to whether all subsequent councils otherwise meeting the criteria are Ecumenical or Pan-Orthodox.
@@sargael without the consent of their synod i dont think that is canonical unless italy is reevangelized, forms a reconstituted synod, and then they elect a new patriarch. However this has never historically happened in the history of Orthodoxy in a RC land it would be like a reverse crusade.
Thankyou so much fr.peter heers I left my modernist church(not because of your teachings but that of the holy fathers) and am going to be baptized at either a monestary near me or my local rocor parish thankyou for being the one to make me aware of ecumenism early on along with living orthodoxs fr.mochael I cannot express how much so many appreciate your fight but we have to do something..only thing i could do is make sure im baptized before someone tries to chrismate me I was a messianic jew' my antiochian parish was gonna chrismate me i couldn't do it..
Father Peter, Metropolit Hierotheos has a book on the Council from Crete, it's in greek. Could you talk about that? Would you take a translation of it in consideration? Thank you, God bless!
