rohan shishkebab I never heard Morrowind's soundtrack before hearing the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim. I guess I remembered hearing the music whenever I was traveling along the ash lands of Solstheim and finding out that Falx Carious was featured in a previous elder scrolls game, AND the fact that Morrowind's bloodmoon DLC took place on Solstheim made me wonder what he was like back then. I found a video of Falx as captain in the bloodmoon DLC and somewhere in the video some music that I recognised from Dragonborn, which caught me off guard because I never heard Morrowind's soundtrack before. Later I looked for the ambience music from Dragonborn's Solstheim and the description also mentioned some of the music being from Morrowind, then after hearing some of Morrowind's music for once, while recognising it from Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC I then knew that Dragonborn's soundtrack hails from Morrowind's

20 hours into Morrowind right now myself. Absolutely loving it. Skyrim got too bland for me and over playing it with mods essentially was just killing it and trying to recapture what once was when I played a decade ago. I've always had trouble getting into Morrowind until recently. It's not that I think it's bad, far from it (it's now close to being tied with Oblivion for my favorite, tho I have a lot of nostalgia for Oblivion so I don't think it'll ever be topped). The die roll esque combat always just made me not want to play due to how frustrating it is. That mixed with how you essentially NEED to build your own class to play made it difficult for me to enjoy. Then the quarantine started and I started playing it for real. Once I got past the combat, i.e. I used a mod. Sue me (I'll use base combat next playthrough for sure though), I really started to enjoy the game. The lack of a real fast travel system, while annoying at first (again, spoiled by later games, and Daggerfall) really helps sell the immersion. You have to walk places, or pay for a SIlt Strider or boat. You have to explore, you can't just warp back and forth for quests and I love it. I love the world, the visuals (I have an odd appreciation for older, dated 3D graphics), the music (obviously), the quests are fun (though I find myself less doing quests and more just exploring places, stealing shit, selling it, going exploring again, rinse and repeat), just everything is wonderful and I understand why it's so highly praised now. TLDR Coronavirus made me love Morrowind.

@@lthotpocket8259 well like I said, I'm a bit spoiled by Oblivion and Skyrims combat systems (i.e. If your sword connects with the enemy, it hits), but I'll definitely go vanilla combat my next playthrough. TES in general is probably my favorite ARPG series for the open endedness, lore, and immersive worlds.

Warrior classes need a bit of Agility to actually land attacks. Missing attacks pretty much goes away by level 10 if you’re building correctly and utilizing the right equipment: there’s pretty powerful stuff to be found right outside of Seyda Neen if you know where to go. People vastly over estimate the difficulty:complexity of Morrowind because they lack the patience and focus to get outside of the early game, and most gamers have the lost the ability to think about side the box and go at a slow pace/do their own discovery or investigation because the last decade has been over saturated with completely dumbed down systems that basically play the game for you.; they tell you where to go, what to get by giving you complexity immersion breaking quest markers, easy:gimmicky combat systems and tons of brainless fast travel systems that take all connection away that a player can develop with the game world. Now it’s just “run there, kill that, fast revel back, run to the quest giver, dump a few points, sell a crapload of useless junk, craft OP item, repeat. No real time and effort required to cultivate anything. Sprint everywhere; fast travel as much as possible, kill Everything, spam the same shit over and over, never stop to explore or appreciate the new word around you.The average gamer is totally braindead like a zombie. Btw, you can also fast travel via the Mage’s Guild teleportation system. Fast travel is good thing, but it needs to be a thing you unlock/earn, as opposed to a system feature available from the start.

This was the most special game I've ever played. Nothing will come closer nowadays, mostly because how culture and bussines is shaped when it comes to games. This game was hostile as f**k when first playing it (something crazy for "modern standards", where most games have to lead you as if you were a kid). It felt like a world where you were literally an NPC. I was kinda shocked when I couldn't kill like the ~3 guys or so in a cave near Seyda Neen. Thinking about it in retrospective, it was kinda "Souls-like" years before souls-like were a thing. The most insignificant thing could kill you, even a worm. But if you don't give up, you started to discover more and more things, and you progressed slowly in that hostile world. And the game became better and better. Today's games needs to show you everything they had quick, like if they were a tiktok video. There is not the same place for discovery and amussements as back in the days. Mostly because doing something like that in a AAA game is risky. I also remember gifting it to a friend in highschool, and I loved it how different our games were. Totally different game styles and approaches to the same game. Morrowind was freaking special and someone who didn't experience it in the day will ever understand.

As much as I couldn't get into the combat system of Morrowind, I still have mad respect for this game. It totally brought the series into full 3D and had deep RPG elements to it that were great. I'll admit it though, I largely preferred Oblivion (heresy, I know) and even Skyrim, but I DO see the appeal this one had.

Morrowind: fighting nix hounds, guars, cliff racers, kagouti, blighted alits under mossy mushroom trees Skyrim: fighting wolves, bears, dragons - like we’ve already seen in every medieval fantasy fiction forever and ever. I’ll suppose I have to give oblivion and Skyrim another go - I’m not a s’wit but how can you top the Dunmer? When I first met them at 12 I was so scared of their glowing red eyes heehee

I don't particularly like that theme but it's probably one of the most iconic theme I've heard in my life
