DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THE GREAT LATE BASS PLAYER OF THE ELECTRIC PRUNES, MARK TULIN, WHO DIED FEBRUARY 26, AGED 62. --MARK TULIN-- * NOVEMBER 21, 1948 ✝ FEBRUARY 26, 2011 REST IN PEACE.
I saw them in San Diego in the spring of 1968. They opened for my favorite band - The Byrds - Psychedelic colors projected on the walls and no seats!! I felt honored to be there !
One of the stand out songs of the era. A bit of American Rock History that still sounds great. Broke out of Seattle area radio play and became a national hit.
They were such a tight band. I loved them as a kid, still do. Funny to find out years later that Kenny Loggins was in the band, lol. Thanks for posting both songs together!
A purveyor of bland AOR in one of the best garage bands of the 1960's? Some mainstream pop artists started in the counterculture, so it doesn't surprise me. Behind a Carlisle started in a punk band, who evolved into mainstream pop as their musicianship developed.
I truly had too much to dream last night and it was a mindful experience. It happens about 2-3 times a year and always involves my beloved brother Michael coming back to tell me I am off track in my life and I should..............................The dream is so real..................and I miss him so much!
Never seen this before and these two songs, and The Electric Prunes in general, have always been among my all-time favourites... Brilliant. Thank you so much for posting this
A great selection of songs on this channel! Haven't heard most of these in ages, which is a real shame. Like others below, I am glad I grew up in this time period, a time of great creativity.
All fuzzed-up and everywhere to go-go, baby! What I kicked up my heels to waaaay back when. Thanks, Lenny Kaye and Little Steven, for helping to keep this sound alive.
Great video of a super group with the backward guitar (Too Much Too Dream). I love the pedal tone in "Get Me To The World On Time." I am sorry to learn that Mr. Mark Turin passed away. Thank you for letting me know. I LOVE THE PRUNES!!!!!
All fuzzed-up and everywhere to go. Dig this. Some of my best memories are dancing to this one under the strobes and liquid lights. Kelly and Kathy - this one's for us.
First time in 66, bought the alblum. Got warped, put it on Dual turntable shown red light and let the light reflect off record to the walls..... just another night. Adios Mark, thumbs up guy.
The Prunes got their start up in this part of the country as The Lords. Too Much To Dream got them on national charts, but that was about the most they did as far as recording any hits.
As a baby boomer I always thought the sound of the Electric Prunes was soooooooo cool! Not sure if they lasted more than 2 hits but these are the ones I remember.
I like "Little Olive" by this band. This one reminds me of a "B" biker flick from the mid-Sixties. Thank you, Lenny Kaye, for putting this monster ("Too Much To Dream") on The Nuggets compilation. Kaye (along with Steven Van Zandt) helped save the psychedelic/"garage" sound. I used to say, "Get Me to the World on Time" right before I watched the evening news (video footage of the Vietnam war, riots in America, and other bummers back then). Sarcasm, baby.
The drummer in the rocking chair is the late Preston J. Ritter. I wish that I had seen this before he passed away. I would love to know the story behind the rocking chair. I think that Preston would have been about 17 years old in this video.
Not I. I heard it when it was first recorded. Back then, we were much more in touch with what bands were saying in their lyrics (even when tripping) than people are today. peace
Weird times they were only on the first two lps the rest were a different group. It shows. 2 of the best records out of America. Neither weak soul or country and western god you lot must have hated them.
Oh,man - the rocking chair drummer is the bomb !! Wish more groups would stop taking themselves so GD seriously, and just have fun like these guys did.
How about the video where Ringo is late getting to the performance, even though the drums were on all along, and then sitting on an exercise bike instead of drumming! Now THAT takes talent!!
I wonder if that is a true '58 - '60 Les paul standard. It should be since this was before they started to re-issue them in about 1970. Hope that guy still has that guitar. It's worth about $300,000 today!
Man!!! When you can get those kinda sounds out of a stool and the arm-rest of a wooden chair, why waste money of a kit? They even had cordless guitar and mic connectors. (Ya think may be they were going overboard to spoof the mandatory lip-sinking they had to do? Gotta love it!!!
Kyrie Eliason from easy rider soundtrack is so good. 1st heard from big bro's lp ( RIP. 16 in1974. Pentobarbital i.v.) crazy times. 4 yrs older than me. Since I said that, I'll say this...he had a twin who held on for 9 years...1/2 of him was gone. Hanged himself in our hallway. I'm 58 and it still kicks my ass. Moved back to TN/USA from Congo in 66. Culture- shocked the hell out them. Hell, we weren't cognizant of what color anyone was. Unlike the liberals/Democrats of 2020. They pigeonhole everybody by race, religion and their own racist bias! I'm white, therefore a racist. 🤣🤣🤣 ANY race can be racist against any other race. Fact. Doesn't seem like Burn Loot Murder or Baal Lucifer Molech like whitey too much. That's racism. Doh! Chinese hate Japanese. Jamaicans hate Haitians. It's been around for millennia and cannot be eradicated while sin still exists in this world. Hard stop.
You'll see some groups fooling around when they're lip synching, as these guys are, but still the rocking chair is a pretty cool effect. I've never seen anyone do that.
