Marques is probably the only person i know who'd record a review of a half million dollar car, whilst it's sat there covered in more salt than the local fishing boats
As I read your comment, the thought 'is he even allowed to wash his car at work' randomly popped into my head. In my country, that's a damn stupid question, but according to Bard, he might actually need some kind of permit?! Take that with a grain of AI salt, but since this isn't his first rodeo, there may be a touch of truth to it😅
I was literally thinking the same thing hahaha but on second thought you can't take a $500,000 car just anywhere to wash it especially if it's (im assuming) a press car. The risk of scratching or damaging a press car from trying to wash it is probably not worth the headache. That's my guess
A German reviewer mentioned that Rolls Royce said that "People who buy these sort of cars, use the plane for everything further than 300km." That is why they never tried to extend the range.😂
@@Kryojenix Sure, but that's not REALLY how they're presenting it either. It's a superior luxury experience by virtue of being electric. So, it's less that "we made compromises to be environmental" and more "you want this electric because it's even better than what you had". The environmental aspects are a small marketing cherry on top.
I'm so glad they kept the umbrella. To be honest, I was on the fence about getting one. But now that I know they still have the umbrella, I can shop with confidence. Everything else about the car isn't tat big of a deal to me, but now that I know I'll never get wet when walking into my mansion, I'm sold. Thanks Marques!
Saw one other review apologizing that it had a spec of salt. Marques just rolls with it and shows that it’s used. Both good reviews in their own way and love it.
Marques is presenting the car real in the real world and I love it. This review just happened to be in NJ during a normal winter with all the typical road salt splash on your car!
Marques, I loved those little infectious smiles and grins. A nice presentation again. If I had the money, I would now buy one - just because of you. Well done & thank you.
Exactly. RR is one of the few companies out there that can justify a relatively small range. No RR owner needs to drive that far, let alone drive themselves.
I agree, and it totally makes sense. there's alot of things you can do to make buttons and switches special; a touchscreen can only be customized so much. also when every car manufacturer is replacing their controls with tablets, you have to stand out.
Every brand must have different vehicles for different people who appreciate it The vintage regal ones with buttons and small lever type mechanisms . The futuristic button less types
No brand fits electric more perfectly than rolls. Their cars were always big, heavy, quiet and luxurious. Going electric allowed it to be even more quiet while also performing better on the road. Big W for anyone with the money to buy one.
@@NYCybertruck As one would have been prior to the cheaper RR models' going electric.... Except the Spectre is based on the Phantom platform, not the cheaper/BMW platform.
@@NYCybertruck That's like saying a petrol version is just a bmw with a better interior. But they really should of gone with Tesla as 260 miles with such a low HP number? They should of gone the plaid specs. Would of been the same price too.
My wife's cousin is an engineer at the Rolls Royce factory which is near where we live in UK, and he's allowed to book it out for evenings and weekends - can you believe it, he's mid 20s! He brought it over this week, and we went touring around the country roads round us. I wonder if Marques noticed - he didn't mention it, so probably he didn't drive at night - but those 'stars' in the headlining actually have shooting stars that randomly shoot across the headlining!!! It really is an occasion to ride in this car, and I love that it represents total dedication to excellence in every detail. Another small thing: those hub caps with the "RR" letters in the middle: they don't turn, they are always pointing up the 'right way'...
@@rogerfinch7651 Yes we're in nearby Portsmouth. Lucky them, eh? My father had a Silver Shadow when I was a kid, so it was great to experience the latest generation and first electric Rolls Royce! It's a massive car though... you're nearly sitting at the same height as mid sized SUVs in UK!
A 20 year old rolls royce engineer is allowed to book out a half a million car for evenings and weekend? sounds like codswallop but stranger things have happened.
It’s incredible when you review something how you always get the essential point of it. In Germany we call it the Quintessenz of it. Thank you very much. I’m not surprised that the infotainment system is so good because of the fact that the car manufacturing part of Rolls Royce belongs to BMW. Such an expensive car, but the trunk button is the same as in my BMW X4.
in english we have whats called "quintessential" which is used to describe something that is a typical example/nessecary part of something else! kind of ahaha
When I used to work valet a while back, I got to drive a Spectre. Coming from a tuner background, all of my cars had track-tuned suspension, while driving the Spectre felt like I was literally driving a cloud. That's the only way I could describe it; the car feels like it's floating.
cool, looking forward to having an NRA for tanks. We will be debating whether having a tank is just for self defence and is a necessary tool for safety on the roads. Instead of school shootings we'll have road warfare
I believe it's because for the type of people buying this car, actual HP/performance numbers shouldn't matter - it's a luxury vehicle meant for extremely comfortable and quiet transportation, not a track or performance car. Power Reserve is just to show some kind of "how much power we got left" even though it's most often not useful to know. Rolls-Royce cars _have_ enough power for what they're designed for.
ive watched so many of the videos i love the entertainment value of your channel! i wish there was more consideration to long term value of the car vs the initial use convenience and driving habits as these vehicles learn and also have hidden "fail safes" to prevent electronic failures. for instance a misfiring engine may still get you to a&b but an Ev with disabling logic may leave you stranded when the vehicle is actually safe to "drive"
These are built 10minutes up the road from me here in Chichester, UK. The huge difference in cost / quality is the significant amount of hand crafting that goes into these vs say a top end S Class. Quality of fit and finish and materials is second to none.
I live 15 minutes from the RR factory, it is incredible how many RRs are roaming around Chichester, being test-driven, or road-tested, and it is a real joy to see one in a quiet setting on top of the Trundle in the sunshine being photographed by, probably the new owner. We are so lucky to have the world's best car being built on our doorstep.
I came back to this video cause of the track you had on the infotainment system. I must admit it is only now I am seeing why that specific track was selected for this video. Nice play on matching the colours. S/o to more and more of these crisp, quality, phenomenal videos Car Journalist/Enthusiast Marques.
@@sweetlemonade123 it would likely have to be trailered to the location to keep it clean if the roads are as salted as he said. Throw in a high end detailer with insurance and it probably turns into a bigger production than it needs to be for this channel 😅
@@MountainDrew42 I wonder what he shot this on. He's said a few times already that he likes trying out different phones on this channel. Does the resolution go up to 8k? I know he swears by 30fps and I don't think there are many phones out now that can do that with stabilisation. At 24fps, maybe, but he hates that frame rate. He may have even made a shirt to show just how much he hates it😅
@@falxonPSN He was saying a thing. That thing he said was in fact false. Nobody has ever seen a car part that is solid chrome. Car parts that are chrome plated are made out of some sort of base metal.
Need more purple cars. I had a purple Neon almost 25 years ago, I loved it. Purple is slowly coming back on some manufacturers' trims recently, though, so there is hope.
@@adityaraghuvanshi3947 on a car where virtually nothing, and definitely not the seats comes off an assembly line. You're paying 2500 bucks for the seamstress to grab a spool with a different colour.
I drove the first one that got delivered to U.S. It was spec'd perfectly. It's the quietest car I've ever driven. The car indeed "makes no sense" as you put it, and it's what's wonderful about it.
I remember someone who interviewed one of the spokespeople for Rolls Royce about the spectre and said the range was bad and what if the owner wanted to travel 300 miles and back in a day? The spokesperson said well in that case they would take their helicopter. Great response. 👍
This is the first time I see a Rolls so dirty. Actually makes it more relatable, and feel more realistically attainable. Even though it really, really isn't.
@@franciscorullan where I live, they don't even sell Rolls Royce. Also, where I live, on a great programmer's salary, with the wife also working full time in tech, we're considered "rich" - yet, we can't afford to buy _any_ new car, let alone a house. Hopefully one day we'll save enough to move to a better economy and enjoy the fruits of our work. @@CovKid2K10I wouldn’t be surprised if he was advised against it from rolls royce themselves. I doubt there are many cleaners that can be trusted with this kind of car.
This is the first Rolls Royce I've ever wanted! Would have loved to have been a passenger while you did this review. THANKS for a look at the car I will never be able to afford. But I can still dream...
Nearly 7,000 lbs is unthinkably ridiculous for a coupe. Like unfathomably heavy. It weighs pretty much the same as a Cybertruck, and a Chevy Suburban weighs over 1,000 lbs less than both. God help us all if these things crash into anything.
Rolls Royce is doing the controls right. every electric car seems to be obsessed with making the entire dashboard/controls interface on a touch screen, which is neither good for safety nor for ease of user..
Screens show more info but knowing more doesn’t necessarily mean a better experience I think. The heating controls for example why is the exact temp more important than how you intuitively feel? I know the spectre doesn’t show how hot the cabin is.
Marques called the S-Class a luxury car but that's premium with a luxury loom and feel. Rolls Royce and Bentley are true luxury brands because they put importance on real materials and as much handcrafted or finely crafted parts as possible. Marques talked about how smooth the air vents moved but brushed over what he demonstrated that they actually were metal. On an S-class, 7-series etc they might be plastic with a metal look. I think Rolls Royce at least will resist pure touchscreen controls because the customers want the tactility, tradition and as a brand they don't need to cut costs by reducing physical controls.
I have driven both the S Class and the latest Bentley Bentayga. They are both Luxury cars. Bentley Bentayga also have lots of plastic, but cost 3 times the price of the S class. I can tell you it’s not smoother to drive than a S class. Yes they have more hand finished items and more expensive carpet, but the leather look and feel Similar. The Mercedes is the best value Luxury car you can buy, anything over that and it’s just about status, and money no object. The Bentley cost £1300 for a standard oil service. Elon musk put everything on a screen to cut costs, now people think it’s better. As a model Owner, my car would be much better with some buttons. Not safe going into the screen menu for everything. The buttons will come back on the higher end cars like Mercedes and BMW
@bossman4401 I wonder if that's down to the Bentayga being the sister car to the Toureg, Cayenne, Q8, Q7 and Urus and one of the last on that platform. I feel BMW let's Rolls Royce be as bespoke as possible and more exclusive as well as the pinnacle whereas Bentley is apparently below or was below Bugatti and then maybe shares more from the VAG parts bin.
@@CDN_Store I Didn’t mention RR. RR is the Ultimate Luxury car. They play by their own rules, However the Mercedes Maybach is the most comfortable car you can sit in, they have the best seats that can recline in any position for your comfort.
Yea, but its only for the beginning the BYD Seal accelerates faster. Then, after a bit less than a quarter mile, the Tesla Model 3 starts to accelerate faster and overtake the BYD Seal.
Marques, You're a master at your craft Bro! love the subtlety and symbolic presentation of the RR! As you said you don't need to go luxury above and beyone S-Class, those who do want to will have to pony up have F*#! You Money! It just overly decadent and obscene amount of money for a vehicle.
Love Marques' reviews - his voice is so calming in this crazy world. But I am kind of shocked that there are almost a million views of an electric Rolls Royce review in just 3 days.
I wish you could get a car with the quiet cab and cloud suspension but cheap out on the rest, basic fabric seats and none of the chrome... I'm poor but would love a quiet soft car, lol. Absolutely in love with the purple tho
Can't speak on suspension, but some speaker shops will add that sound foam to the doors for an extra charge. Actually made a significant difference when I did it and it wasn't that expensive.
I was just about to order one and then you mentioned the range. How can I possibly waft down to the Cote d'Azur from the UK and keep having to find a charging point. It needs 1000 miles range.
I am quite astonished that a car like the electric Rolls-Royce Spectre, costing half a million dollars, doesn't plug itself into the socket. That's unbelievable.
Quietness in a cabin can sometimes go under appreciated. Bravo to RR for (as always) wildly overdoing it in that department. My ONLY concern with it in this car, however, is not hearing fire engine or ambulance sirens in enough time to stop for them.
When I was kid growing up, my dream car was a Ferrari, but honestly after becoming an adult I'm absolutely mesmerised by Rolls Royce. I highly doubt I'd ever be able sit in one, let alone afford one, but the Rolls Royce Phantom is my dream car. I really like what they've done with the Phantom, and I do wonder if there's an EV version of it coming out before the end of this decade.
BMW now own RR, but each car is still hand-crafted in Goodwood, England. A few parts are German but the craftsmanship is English and still of the highest quality. Wonderful car.
8:09 Why don't more electric cars design their dashboards like this? There are plenty of us who prefer the analog look, as opposed to a cluster(fxxx) of numbers, graphs, and illustrations of lane assist!
I was honestly surprised they didn't go electric sooner. A RR is the perfect candidate for an EV. Their gas cars are already super quiet. I'm also shocked they decided to do a couple first. A 4 door phantom like sedan with a trunk and frunk would be sick. Either way, I love this car. It's gorgeous. Very much out of my price range but salute to the lucky person who can afford this.
