At the turn of the century, one product above all else inspired the hearts and minds of the British business community. Because of its infinite applications this youngest, brightest and lightest of metals had become more precious than gold.
But to manufacture it you needed to generate a lot of electrical power, and to source a cheap, renewable supply, the surveyors and engineers came here to what was to become the biggest hydro-electric scheme in Europe.
This is the story of that metal, aluminium, and in particular the people who helped manufacture it in this area, that gave birth to the Electric Village.
