Fable of the Elephant and the Moss - analysis
In the fable Elephant and Moss are two main characters. The main protagonist is the dog Mosca, this is indicated by the fact that he is the only one who has a name. The Elephant, on the other hand, has no name, remaining in the background. The image of the Elephant is created to convey the importance and greatness of the person it characterizes. The elephant does not really care who barks at him, who ingratiates himself with him by wagging his tail.
Mosca is a character, at first glance negative, symbolizing people who know how to advertise themselves on nothing. Talking to a simple mutt, she gives out a funny truth that although she barks at the Elephant, it is not to him that all her efforts are directed. The whole game, in fact, is arranged for other dogs. There is no need for fights or danger, just enough to give the impression of fearlessness, of being able to attack the Elephant, the powerful one. He won't even pay attention to the little dog, and Mosca will achieve his goal: he will show his courage and strength to the ordinary dogs. Surprisingly, but, as in life, such tricks can really achieve the goal. Krylov with his inherent sharpness managed to show how ridiculous and ridiculous the efforts of the little moss and at the same time, how stupid are the dogs around her, taking the cunning at face value.
