I correctly guessed OBSBot Tiny 2 as the most expensive, but I thought the FaceCam 2 was second most expensive, definitely did not think it was the cheapest!
Same, I figured that the most true-to-life ones would be the most expensive, and thought that this webcam was what turned out to be the real 2nd most expensive one!

As a recent elgato facecam pro user, I would like to say for a gaming setup, I think it is plenty enough camera for most those situations. The zv-e10 would be like a next step up, or a great camera for a secondary camera for close ups and different angles. Or at least that's how I would use them. But this comparison was enough to realize that for about another year or so, I have a great camera for stream.
Your zv-e10 comaprison is not fair. I see that you're using the usb streaming feature that it offers. However it's only 720p and has a lot of latency. Using the hdmi output from the camera would give you results that would blow the elgato out of the water. I have the zv-e10 and use it with a camlink (not even camlink 4k, the og 1080p one) and the video looks outstanding. So you showed a 720p example even though the camera is able to output a 4k signal and if paired with a camlink 4k this wouldn't even be a competition. That said, this kit is like 5 times more expensive so it's completely undestandable. But if you get something like an a5100 and a camlink that's a $300 combo that I would take over any of the options mentioned in this video.
@@mitchy5994 the price of a5100 skyrocketed in the second hand market when youtubers started recommending it. People don't even look at anything else, they just want the thing their favourite youtuber recommended. Look for a6000, panasonic g7 or Canon M200, I often see these being sold for even lower prices and the quality is just as good or even better.
I got the original Facecam when it launched. I personally had nothing but issues with the software and it often demanded too much USB power, I believe. Went back to my c920 after struggling for a few weeks.
Had this happen with a laptop that simply didn't provide enough power to the USB ports. Ended up getting a powered USB dock. This actually worked out better because it was easier to disconnect the laptop and leave everything else set up.
@@WolfCatalyst I’m glad that worked out for you. I initially had it on a USB powered hub but that didn’t work, so I put it in the most powered USB slots on my desktop directly. Unfortunately that still created stability issues. But I’m somewhat comforted to know that I’m not the only one!
Same, software issues, power issues when used with capture card. It also had a bad case of the fuzzies unless you had studio lights in your face so you can lower iso. I ended up using a Camlink and a d5600 collecting dust instead. For streaming games, sure get a face cam for cheap. If you are doing YT vids or any streams they need your camera front and centre, it's just better to save up for a basic DSLR
The big question is how much light do each of the pro and non pro cameras need to produce quality images. Having a facecam 1.0 it feels like you need to have a ton of light to get high quality output.
all cameras need good lighting. that is rule number 1. A cheap webcam can look fantastic with good lighting where even a 1000 dollar mirrorless camera will look awful without good lightning. my C920 which i had before switching to Elgato facecam Pro was looking pretty good with some tweeks and 2 x svive procyon key light on each side of my desk
One thing I noticed, especially between the Elgato Facecam vs the Sony ZV-E10 is a fraction of a second lag behind the audio on the Elgato. If I look at only the Elgato, I hardly notice the audio not quite synching up with your mouth, but I notice it compared to the Sony.

If this can be mounted on an arm that is constantly moving, have the lens point downwards, and can accommodate a 10’-15’ cable…it’s perfect! Trying to replace an iPhone SE2.
This video was fascinating because it showed how much Elgato has improved their webcam quality and features with the FaceCam Mark 2. I learned a lot from this video about the differences between the Mark 1 and the Mark 2, as well as how they compare to other webcams and cameras on the market. The HDR, dynamic range, color accuracy, and uncompressed image are all impressive for a $150 webcam. Did you know that the name Elgato means “the cat” in Spanish? Another interesting thing to note is that the company was originally founded in Germany in 1992 and focused on making video editing software and hardware. It was not until 2012 that they entered the gaming industry with their first capture card, the Game Capture HD. Since then, they have become one of the leading brands for streaming and content creation accessories. I think Elgato has done a great job with the FaceCam Mark 2 and I’m tempted to get one for myself. I also appreciate that they removed the unnecessary stuff like the microphone and the autofocus, and focused on making a simple and effective webcam. The only thing I wish they had was a cat logo on the webcam, because that would be purr-fect. 😂
One thing I’m shocked you didn’t go over was the low light. Elgato’s website/email said this one had improved low light, I’m not expecting magic, but I was curious to see it perform in low light.
personally i do appreciate auto focus as being someone who does occasional collectible and unbox videos. for that im still using c922 as a secondary cam. and i use the original elgato facecam as my primary.
The comparisons would've been more fair if the other cameras were set correctly - most of them were pretty damn overexposed. The FaceCam Mk 2 looks pretty good (especially compared to the C920 or laptop webcams we were all running back in 2020) but it still just looks like a webcam.
I was actually super surprised by that price reveal, I was looking at the top right thinking dang that one looks awesome its gotta be the expensive one and man was I wrong.
8:24 - that’s the decider. For $149, it can get ~85% to a mirrorless with full kit that costs $1000. If you have the cash, get the mirrorless, if not get the new camera. If you have time wait for the 4K version of it in the $300 range.
9:10 - I don’t subscribe to people I randomly see a video of. They need to show up their own a few times and earn the spot, otherwise, I’ll be watching 100k+ RU-vidrs. Having said that, you managed to keep my ADHD brain focused on you the whole video, and I only stopped once to share your link with a friend. I also bothered to leave a few comments whilst watching. Very good but I still like the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra quality better. It is still about 249-299 dollars though but gives 4K video and gives natural bokeh effect with the big lense. :) And the winner thing for me is that it can be customized much and the low light quality is stunning.
am i the only one that saw a clear difference from the cameras at 8:33? personally, it definitley looked way better with the lens on the sony. like FAR better clarity
Okay, I worked out the most expensive one would be the one I liked best. My second favourite was the Facecam 2 though, which is impressive for the cheapest option...
I really missed a low light test in this video. My eyes are scarred, so I can't have a key light due to them being so light sensitive. Would've loved to see that test in a darker environment.
There were far more appropriate comparisons he could have done - the Razer Kiyo Pro is a similar spec camera, which Amazon UK currently has for half the price of the Facecam mk 2 - I would have been far more interested in seeing a side by side of those two cameras than the webcams/cameras he chose - especially when it comes to the noise the Facecam was producing.
idk I wouldn't say it's a big improvement. Even tho the old one had "less accurate colors", it was a lot more pleasing to the eye. I prefer something that looks better over more accurate
They have de FC Pro, but i want the Facecam Ultra have a much bigger sensor (Full frame if it is possible), and to be swappable lens, made by Elgato specific for the facecam, and other manufacturers.

it looks fantastic I just bought it. I'll use the original one as a hand cam. I will say I do see some grain, but I think that can be fixed with messing with the ISO. everyone has a different l lighting set up but for me I have 2 elgato key lights so I always have my ISO at the lowest it can go which is 100%. can't wait to get this and see the HDR in action. 😊
the problem i had with the first elgato webcam is that i could not use it for streaming it would freeze everything making vids was a maybe so it is had to believe that the mk 2 is gonna be any different
the mk2 has a lot of static noise, you can see it all over your sweatshirt. Maybe with tweaking the settings that would go away. Would love a video on setting it up with some settings. I know you did one before, but a refresh with the new webcam and elgato software would be cool.
Great image clarity but it adds a bit of saturation. The pink in your face and the extra blue in the shirt is a bit .uch for me. If theres a saturation setting then its probably perfect.
So just out of curiosity... the color of your hoodie looks slightly different in each camera view... which one was closest to what you see in the mirror? :) I'm assuming the Sony, but I'm interested in your input.
150 bucks is NOT budget. That is firmly premium tier, and one I'd frankly never spend on. Standard webcams costing over 50 bucks are pointless. If you just want to show your face, use an ACTUALLY budget webcam, and if you're serious, get a proper camera and a Cam Link, it'll blow any "premium webcam" out of the water in every aspect
The added sharpness on the default settings is way too much, making the final image quality severely worse IMO. Hopefully that's something that can be changed in elgatos software, otherwise it would be a weird feature dampening the quality of what seems to be a good product
Yes, I got it, because of the red patches on the face, that's the issue I have had more than any other issue with every webcam I've tried, even the 4k ones. I've found my old T3i is even far superior to any webcam.
Not gonna lie. I do not know if it is just coloring or something, but on Elgato Facecam Pro compared to the MK 2, your face has almost yellow/green tint on the edges of your beard. For me Facecam MK2 looked better, but that might be just a micro issue when you were putting them together and there was some messed tint settings.
I purchased an Elgato Facecam around 2 years ago and will never buy another one from Elgato. No matter what lighting or settings I use, the quality always looks like poop.
Any recommendations for an audio interface with Bluetooth capabilities? I can’t stand headsets and been enjoying the airpods paired with a bluetooth transmitter coming out of a goxlr mini, but looking for a better solution.
