Thanks brother... this is the feature I've been waiting for. Just clicked your link at 2am in the morning and ordered for 7am delivery. Gotta love Amazon. Looking forward to testing it out.
@@tombuck I do! And it arrived at 6am after ordering it at 2am. Crazy. With that said, I’ve not been impressed with the voice mode. It worked initially, but now only works when it wants to. I sent an email to support to find out if they have any suggestions. I’m running the latest versions of everything and have tried 3 or 4 mics with the same result. So if I can’t get it to work consistently it’s going back :(
Update: Sent it back to Amazon. Voice Track is half baked and barely activated itself. Contacted Corsair/Elgato support and they could really care less. So disappointed.
Thank you for the update Tom. I’ve had the update installed for several weeks but haven’t used it much yet. This was definitely a welcome update to the software. I will probably still use the pedals but this will make life much easier! 👍👍
I've definitely been relying on Voice Sync as my primary way to use the prompter now, but the pedal is still nice for times I need to jump around the script or just keep trying multiple takes when I keep messing up 😅
Hi Tom, i got the Elgato Prompter a few days ago. I just wanted to order the pedal because of your video but didn't ordered it yet. Then I saw this feature in the Elgato App. I was mind blown that it works that good. And one day later we got an update from you via this video. Thanks for all the valuable videos and greetings from Austria. 😀BR Martin
So glad to hear it! I've been using the pedal primarily until now, which I love, but I have a feeling most of my workflow is going to switch over to Voice Sync now since it's so effective.
This makes it a worthy buy for me now! Originally held off because I had an app and small lens mounted prompter for my phone to auto track me but this is a great update!
I saw this update soon after they posted the video on it and ran to update the software and test it out. For me it was decent but the delay was too slow fairly often so I hope they improve upon it to make it advance faster / in real time.
I’d go for the pedal too. I’m finding the software really problematic. It takes forever to load. And then it wouldn’t track the text properly. I certainly wouldn’t trust it for anything live. On my last video, I just gave up and used the pedal instead. This was brilliant. Much better than the software, even when it worked. It really goes at your pace, because you are controlling that pace. You just need to get the foot pedal scrolling speed right. But this isn’t difficult.
ok fine ill give them my money. lol not influential purchase but i have been seeking and trying to decive on a prompter and this make sense for my style. thanks
I love this addition. But it isn’t quite perfect. I used it on my last video. It sped up the first part enormously. However, at some point it became really glitchy. I had to resort to using the pedal (which is a great option, but the way). For example, it just wouldn’t scroll in time at certain points. This would be a huge problem for livestreams. I’m hoping it may just have been a one off. I still think that it’s amazing and has huge potential. But I’m just not sure how reliable it is. I’ll continue playing around with it.
Great video ! I recently updated mine and I love it!! This was my first time using voice tracking, and it was super easy. I haven't had any problems...yet. It really helps reduce my anxiety since I don't have to worry about the prompter running ahead😅. The prompter is great tool and it will only get better from here.
Awesome! I love watching your channel for intelligent non-shouting over-produced content, plus the puns and humor. Did you always get voted as the favorite high school teacher?
Game changer! This is what’s been keeping me from my Glide Gear prompter with PromptSmart Pro to the El Gato Prompter. It sounds like El Gato has even improved on PromptSmart’s voice recognition software and I won’t have to keep signing in to prove I have a subscription. Fantastic! One question: I write my scripts on my iPad Pro and do a copy and paste from Pages into the PromptSmart software running on my Mac. Is that going to be possible with the El Gato software? Thanks Tom. I appreciate this update.
I requested the ability to use the Camera Hub software offline - no supported device connected because I don't want to edit the scripts on the machine I record on and I don't want to move the Prompter back and forth to do so. My channel isn't large enough to get any traction on that feature. I had that you have to have the Prompter connected to work on scripts - give us the ability to do it elsewhere - like a plane or just a different computer. I also find it really annoying that you can connect the device on a Windows computer and if the multiple display mode is set to "Duplicate" then it won't detect the Prompter. You must switch the display mode to "Extend" to have it detect the device. You have to search the internet for the answer instead of the device informing you on the required setting. So, I actually just use the device with Powerpoint as a second display and skip the Prompter software completely. It works fine for use because we go back-and-forth with who is talking with only one of us on-screen at a time, typically. I would love to use the actual prompter software, but until I can easily edit my scripts on a different computer I won't be doing so.
I would love this. I don't like that Camera Hub won't even open without a device connected. It'd be great to edit/format scripts without needing the Prompter attached. In the meantime, I draft my scripts in Notes/Docs and then just past them to Camera Hub, which works well enough and still allows me the benefits of the official software.
Really appreciate this video - I’ve been waiting for this and haven’t been working on this part of my tech stack lately, I’m going to check out your other vids on this
This is amazing. If they can add an ability to repeat a line in an update... Also, add an internal battery and the software to run the system on the device itself on v2. That's all. Lol. Loose Nikon.
Hi Tom, Great Video and Amazing Update! Can you please tell Elgato to work on making this Teleprompter work with iPad. I can’t move my computer with me everywhere I move the teleprompter. 😅😅
Definitely send them feedback! Seems like Voice Sync was easier to start with the Latin/Germanic languages since they share so many traits. I'm guessing other languages require everything to be done from scratch, which probably takes more time.
Thanks for the heads up, Tom! Just curious-why did you use the DJI mic to record instead of just using the Rode for both the prompter and recording? Also, what lav mic do you have plugged into the DJI? Also also, thank you for being awesome! 2:09
DJI sent over the Mic 2 last week and I've just been wanting to experiment with it! No real reason other than that. I've had my Rodes for al long time and I like them, but I've never used the DJI before, and I'm honestly quite impressed. It was also nice for this video, since I was turning between the camera and the computer so much not to worry about mic positioning and stuff. I was using the DJI lav mic, which seems decent. My mistake was they I accidentally turned on noise reduction when I definitely didn't need it, so I think it doesn't sound quite as good here as in a few other tests I've done. But that's user error 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe you can help me out, I love the Elgato Prompter, but I usually record using the DJI Mic, and that's attached to the camera directly, so the elgato still needs a different mic to detect speech for the voice sync. My MV7 doesn't pick up enough to be usefull. Is the only solution using the computer attached mic? That would be a bummer
Prompters in general are pretty magical. It does darken the image slightly, but nothing major and no impact on colors. If the display is set to full brightness with a light background, it can create a glare, but turning it down helps fix it.
I may need to get something setup. I noticed that was happening even before this video. But, I've found the prompter speed control to be buggy and so I've ended up forwarding with my trackball to control my pace and speed! Any suggestions here?
The speed for Voice Sync seems to be pretty good to me, but without it, it does usually seem a bit slow to me. I usually use the Pedal and advance things manually (before Voice Sync, anyway which is now my preferred way to go).
Does this cost anytning to use monthly? I've used Prompt Smart Pro since it had voice tracking but it's a paid app to use the voice tracking, if this is tracking is no additional cost (assuming maybe the initial cost of the software or something) that would be awesome!
Hi Tom, enjoy your videos, so thank you. I got the Elgato Prompter and when I download the files needed to use the "Voice" feature it crashes my graphics card and I need to reinstall the GPU drivers. I am unable to use the voice feature - all other features work great. I will admit I am a Dell XPS and Microsoft guy. Trying to get Elgato service to work thru the issues but the impression I get is that this is a Microsoft sync issue. Have you heard similar issues from other uses?
great update but support only English language and you must talk in fluent. in my case in arabic language its just working for a few word. thats not a good update for me
I have a feeling that they have to build support for each language from scratch, so starting with English/Latin languages is probably easiest. I know they're working to add support for more, but definitely send them feedback! Let them know which languages are needed, and what kind of support would be helpful for people who aren't perfectly fluent.
@@tombuck Oh, I see. I’m using this for a high school broadcast, so my anchors are about 15 feet away. What would be the best way to get good clean sound to the computer so that the prompter pick it up?
This update doesn't work unless you have the right graphics card. When I try to turn on Voice Sync, I get the message "System does not support Voice Sync. NVIDIA RTX 2060 graphics card (or better) is required." Rather disappointing. I wish Elgato had been more up front about this requirement, as I don't see it mentioned anywhere in their marketing. I can't even find any mention of it on the Prompter's system requirements page.
@@tombuck Yes, I understand, but it wasn't mentioned in the promo email I got from Elgato, leading me to download the update the second I read about Voice Sync. Unfortunately, my laptop graphics chip is built into the motherboard so there is nothing I can do to upgrade. Ah well. Thanks for all your great videos, Tom. I really enjoy them and learn a lot.
@@davidoceans5768 Yes, I did! I don't know if deleting and reloading the app helped, because at first it seemed to still be failing. But then I noticed something. If I waited 5-10 seconds, eventually a little amber light popped up in the top right of the viewer, and then the (from a distance) teeny text changed to "Active". I think before I might've been clicking things and messing up the loading sequence, when it didn't seem to be ready right away.
The tech behind it is pretty intense to analyze and adapt so many things on the fly based on audio input, so I don't think they're trying to leave anyone out, I think that's just the minimum requirement to make it run smoothly.
@@tombuck it's Nvidia not Elgato. Their tech is always proprietary. AMD mostly does open source. Also the reason it's the 2060 RTX and above is because that's the first GPU to utilize DLSS and other AI features.
@@davidoceans5768 I have a 3090 and it works only on Nvidia. It should work with a 3060. It WILL NOT WORK WITH AMD. Nvidia is known for being proprietary on their tech. There's some issues that need to with out. It keeps skipping too much for me and I had it crash once.
That sucks that it can only use M1 chips and not Intel. Which is what Windows uses. So it works on Windows, but not Mac??? Typical Apple product. They ALWAYS urge (FORCE), you to upgrade. That's the WHOLE reason why I have Hackintosh that works just as fast, but for 1/3 the price.
It won't work on any Intel PC since it does need that specific NVIDIA card. Whatever "AI" functions the app uses to analyze and adjust the script are pretty intensive and need more modern components to work. I'm using it on my $599 base model M1 Mac mini from 4 years ago, so I definitely don't feel forced into upgrading or anything.
The fact that the Windows version requires a minimum Nvidia graphics card means that this feature works on a relatively small number of Intel PCs, because so many PCs, especially many PC laptops, don’t even have discrete graphics. But on Mac, it works on the four-year-old, weakest, slowest M series processor ever made! So you’re kind of reading it backwards: The system requirements allow this feature to work on a much larger proportion of the current Mac user base than the current PC user base. The MacBook Air with the base M1 will run this, and that is down to under $700 at some stores now.
