I was touring with my old band Straight Line Stitch back in the day and we did some shows with Bleed The Sky and I got to know him a little bit. Rad dude and it was really awesome watching him beat the Shit out of a drumset.
Austin man saw you in uk with chimaera years ago, didn’t know who you were. You’ve been amazing in devildriver haven’t seen them live for a while so only watching on RU-vid. Now I’m totally addicted to the total destruction album and watched pretty much everything you’ve uploaded you’re a total animal on the drums I love your style. How can you be so chilled and joking about before recording this masterpiece and then do it flawlessly!
Wow! Astounding dexterity, precision and creativity behind the kit! Austin really is a beast! As soon as I first heard that drum intro to My Last Murder I was floored... like, goddamn! This guy is insane! 🤘🏻 Probably my favourite track off Total Destruction in no small part thanks to that phenomenal drum performance, surgical precision but also very musical grooves all along the song! Gotta check out more of Austin's work (I know he's been in DevilDriver for awhile but not much else) but on The Elite material he freakin' crushes that drum kit! Even though I'm a guitar player (at least I try to be hahahah), drums are easily my second favourite instrument to listen to and I was in awe during the whole video, and every time I blast Total Destruction or any other stuff from your projects I can't help myself but to air drum more than a little bit to these amazing drummers that played on these albums! From Andols to Kevin (I still love his whole performance on the self titled) and also Austin and Ben Schigel, top notch guys! This one was definitely so cool to watch! 🤘🏻The Elite clearly deserves its monicker! 🤘🏻😝
@@RobArnoldWorld you are the MAN! You're a humble guy and I've been following you since the early days too man, always felt a connection with you since I saw you wearing the ride the lighting shirt... That was my first metal cassette tape🤘. Been watching all your videos, you rock dude. Never stop🤘
Hi Rob. I have a question about this. With the recording of the drums, is this just flat veloctiies here in the midi session in Cubase? It sounds like Drum Kit from Hell when he does fast tom work and fills as I used it for years before I went to Superior. I just wondered how you were doing it and is the kit going into the Laptop and creating a midi which is just replaced as apose to using the natural sound? It sounds like there is 'verb added across the cymbals more than you may normally hear as well. I love this and its really interesting to me with how you did it. That dude is a sick player as well.
Yo! It's all natural drums, but I added superior samples in on top of his kick, snare, and toms. Every sample was added manually via midi. His kit was mic'd and all recorded into protools. And yes, there's verb applied across the entire mix. 🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld Hey man. I thought it was EZDrummer of some sort! Do you still use Superior? I absolutley love it. Definitely a step forward from DKFH. Blimey though dude. That must have been time consuming replacement with how busy that dude is on his kit, and its complex stuff for sure. The last time we went into the studio and laid my drums down, we did natural drums, but triggered the kick into a Roland TD-6 brain and then into the desk. It then just left editing to be done really...but then we had to replace the midi for everything but cymbals, but then we decided to replace the chinas as well to punch them up a little. Thanks so much for the reply.
@@RobArnoldWorld you are lucky to have had some sick sick sick drummers over the years man. But tbf, they did have some sick riffs to play to! Bastards ha ha.
Yeah! Ya know, I'm not sure. I think around that time he was using (and still may be using) pedals from this Polish company, but I can't think of their name. Perhaps one day Austin will see this comment and chime in with the answer!🤘
