Yes. It is yet another destruction of statues by "useful idiots." It is clearly profane from one angle, and unsightly at the others except one. It is a disgrace to the memory of someone who fought with everything he had to accomplish an amazing feat. No, wef couldn't stand for that in this country or any other for that matter.
The statue is horrendous. The artist should have used his their faces. Just like people should listen to his wisdom rather than use him as an excuse to act in the opposite of his words.
The artist has raised another $10 million to add heads, but the scale is off and they are much too large, but it adds a dimension of meaning so will be installed regardless
Well the statue is done. Martin L. King, III loves it. I haven’t heard anything from the other siblings. Let’s us continue to fight for racial Justice. Let’s us embrace the work of Dr. King, and move forward. We can wrap our arms around that.

You are taught about different styles and techniques used in creating art as well as the historical content surrounding various artwork, more about the artists themselves and the nature of their inspiration. That's why when you don't like something, you can't speak for others.

Yeah yeah, I grew up surrounded by racist republicans (using the N word on a daily basis) in a deeply red southern state that was also racist. *Thank God* I left for a Blue state which is completely Democratic! Been here over 20 years and it feels great!

This experience showed me why we absolutely need a third party. To keep an alternative to the other two parties that keeps them in check, or we are doomed to stay divided as a nation until it falls. Any even number of parties won't work in the current political climate.

I love what that man stood for but that statue is hard to look at, also we dont have the money to be building 10 million dollar statues so democrats can virtue signal and pat each other on the back.
The only true meaning to this sculpture is that u shouldn’t hire an artist just cause he’s black and u should hire an artist that actually makes good art. MLK always said not to judge someone by their skin. And if he was alive I’m sure he would be saying the same thing.

You nailed it, although I loved The Thing. I think that will be my nickname for this piece, thanks. I find it visually confusing and aesthetically lacking, for a statue of tribute. All it has going for it is iconic 'blackness', which is apparently enough these days.

$10,000,000 for art 🎨... that money could've helped so many, many, many more people of all races. There are so many homeless, poor, hungry people, yet this takes priority. Dr. King would be sickened by this and the activist women praising the artist for just being his race/color. Whatever happened to "Judge me not for the color of my skin, but the content of my character."
Sorry my friends, The sculpture has shaken me, I'm speechless and puzzled.. I Just happened to see the sculpture in News on twitter and ended up searching for a back story.. The story is a great one.. but the representation is not. Excuse me But I'm not able to come out of the shock

Your comment is nonsensical. Art has always (and will forever be) subjective. Each individual may respond to art in many different ways. Art is interpreted, not translated. That is why some people like the monument, some people don't, and some people are not able to do anything but follow what the next guy says.
Hank W. Thomas is artist. He’s a conceptual artist. Whatever that is. Those arms could be anyone. I would have preferred a bust of them. Show their faces. You have to view it from different angles. I’m not inspired by it.

He wife was ready to leave him. He was a great leader, a brave man, he made us and this country do a better job of living up to its ideals. Even so, he doesn’t get a pass on also being a flawed human being, a religious leader, who violated his vows to his wife often and always throughout their marriage. If you didn't live the lifetime you can't really judge. Things always change. Appreciate what past generations contributed for the good. And put your words to action so as not to be a hypocrite. Womens lives were different and the freedoms enjoyed today were won through the sacrifices of others who made a difference.
Easy to do a sculpture of an important personage, when the artist doesn't even have to pretend they can actually reproduce a true-to-life visage. Ugh. What a disgrace and disrespect to Dr. King.

The buffed bronze is beautiful and the sculptor did a good job with proportion and detail with the hands, but otherwise I cannot tell who is hugging whom or what.
@Twilight Blue I agree. This is taken from a photo of Dr. King and Coretta hugging in 1964. It’s too abstract for me. People will have a variety of comments. I’m not excited about it.

As far as I understand, the King family has nothing positive to say about that statue - But are we surprised? It was, after all, erected by the sort of people who have always pretended to be on the politically correct side. And the people who do that sort of pretending are always on the wrong side. Hank Wills Thomas' sculpture is all artistry but no clarity. How are we suppose to know whose arms they are. People shouldn't have to look at a sign, be told by someone else or shown a photo that the sculpture is a depiction MLK and Coretta Scott King. It should be self-evident. Is it a monument or a museum display. When I look at it, I don't see King nor his convictions nor his accomplishments. I see two arms. Depending upon the angle, I don't even see that. So Big Wow.
Its crazy to see the psychology of people. They are willing to lie to themselves because their team told them it looks good. They know its ugly deep down. If their team said the sky was green theyd believe it.
