Was it the Emperor who placed the spies and calculated? I thought Concubine Mei said it was the Dowager Mother. I love the story, but do not speak Chinese. I have to read the English subtitles. What a sad and savage life of privilege and luxury. Even the Emperor and his Royal Mother. Desperately sad. And dangerous for the innocent first, the guilty and complicit equally pitiful in the end, and no one truly safe, whether royal and favored or not. The women in the palace had no satisfaction. They never stop competing, plotting, false stories…. If they were just ordinary women , food is enough for them . Life before was unstable thats why everyone idream to work in the palace. They don’t know the other side of story .( Danger and Death )
