Thank God modern minimalism is leaving! I noticed people living within its white, stainless steel environment became just like it - no character, no colour, no soul. It has been around for too many years - who wants to live in the Starship Enterprise? Not me.

I never understood the idea of values in minimalism. I find it easier to fulfill my inner purpose when surrounded by floral patterns, antique textiles and beautiful books because I feel more myself in such an interior.

Minimalism way of living was always there but it was mainly within the matured and older people but now the younger generation is also smart enough to understand it’s importance and relevance. Hence it will not end. Yes you will see more color palettes, products, and, layering to make it warmer, inviting and provide options to showcase your personality.

I started my life as maximalist. Everything is kept for that future use. Colors rife in my life. Mix match of antique furniture. Travel buying to show 'I've been there'. Lazy person approach - a trash bin , paper pen set, water bottle and cup etc in every room so I wouldnt have to go far for anything. Clothes ,bags, shoe buying at whim....... Now Im definitely ending it all minimalist. Started with Kondo style and finally true minimalism...the three things only on surfaces(can only achieve in the kitchen as it has multiple storage) ; throw or donate if not touched after a year; no buying unless the one NEW in one Old out practice. No gift buying for self or others on travels ( I also found that no one appreciates overseas souvenir as one can also find it locally LOL) Saved a lot of money and am able to travel more. Less cleaning up. Lost weight from all the in house walking and cleaning. Minimalism is here to stay.

My style is French minimalism. In theory, it’s not really a minimalism style as French is usually very ornate and opulent, but impairing down that opulence and blending in some modern clean lines with ornate you get French minimalism. This also includes taking your color, palette and streamline it down to three main colors or all neutrals. It’s one style that I love it allows you to adapt to whatever structure or surrounding your decorating in bring in some of its original beauty, you tried to modernize the space, using furniture pieces, but keeping the class of beauty of an old space. It’s just beautiful and classy because you are much less but remember because ornate is still there. You’re able to see it much more.

hi, i do not feel minimalism as an aesthetic too :) but really more as a way of life, minimalism in the commitments we choose to do in life, to focus on what we feel essential and happy, :) to have more time and energy for the things we feel essential to us. :) i still love to have few things, that reflect what i love but i do not want anymore to buy or search new things i admit. i even do not find joy to go to shops full of new things. i feel even not the wish and not fine into that space anymore. as i dived into minimalism for sustainability too. so i feel more at peace to avoid to buy new things. with no judgement for those doing it as it can happen for me too of course. i just feel more at peace to flow with second hand shops when i feel a need of something or to reuse things and having less is making me feel more peaceful and serene since. even if i feel stressed and hard to focus for my own needs of course. we are all different and that's fine :) thank you for your videos, i feel it interesting for reflecting on this approach, way of life :) it helps me to be more aware on my own feelings actually about it, thank you :)

My favorite style is French minimalism, which really isn’t a pure minimalism decor, it’s more a very clean organize decor with a French twist. There are still very many decorative objects in French minimalism, but most things are done with the purpose.

Minimalism is not necessarily diametral to "maximalism". Both are in fact a philosophy instead of just a style. The difference between those two is, minimalism is like efficiency, compared to "maximalism" is to lavish wasteful eclecticism. Minimalism will never end since it is inline with rationality, simplicity and functionality. Aesthetics that come out from it is eternal and pure (instead of poor) While beauty that spread out from "maximalism" tend to be anarchy, permissive and seasonal.

That screen grab you reference at 0:25 is about the creator's video exiting Netflix, not the whole minimalist movement or aesthetic. Talk about cherry-picking to support a point.

This was interesting, found it on a search for minimalism, which is definitely not my style. Over the last few years, I've discovered that the style that bring me joy, peace and gratitude is eclectic maximalism. But not by consuming. I bought one lounge chair several years ago (Seymour Lounge Chair at Urban Outfitters, $900) but everything else in my apartment was either given to me or I found it on the curbs in my city and on my street. I have deep gratitude for each and every treasure I found. I made my home a funky sexy magical oasis.
