I love Donald Sutherland's performance when he sees Katniss is alive. He's genuinely joyful and relieved, he seemed to be grieving her. And then he immediately continues trying to kill her. It's so interesting. Like in some ways his battle and obsession with her is giving him some reason to live, and as much as he hates her he also cares somehow. In whatever way a psychopath like him might be able to care.
Cute fact: the baby and little boy who played Katniss and Peeta's kids are Jennifer Lawrence's own nephews. Apparently the older one came to set a lot and formed a special bond with Josh Hutcherson :)
not only did coin give the orders for the two step bomb, she also gave the order allowing prim to be on the front lines where it would be set off. she was not 14 yet, meaning that coin would have to approve her being there. and she did, in order to break katniss even more and ensure that she would not stand against her. however she didn’t count on the interesting relationship that snow and katniss developed, and that action instead lead to her downfall.
After rewatching this movies i realized that even though Snow was the "evil" one and Coin was the "good" one - I always trusted that what Snow said was true but i never fully trusted Coin. Whatever she said I'd always take it with a grain of salt.
That's one thing I appreciate about Snow's character. He's always honest. He'll have your family killed if you step out of line, but he'll never deceive you or mask it as someone else who kills them.
I believe the message is that all politicians are the same. Coin's willingness to have her own Hunger Games seals it for Katniss, I think. They're all the same, and Coin is just the next Snow. Cf. US politicians for practical examples of this principle.
Katniss' house was one of the only structures Snow left undamaged in 12, he did this as a message to her. In a way, saying it was her fault that 12 was destroyed.
This series takes you through so many emotions. I'm glad her and peeta were able to refind the love & peace they found in each other. A quote I love from the end. "Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real."
in the underground scene, the term "mutt" i believe refers to anything living that was created or (genetically) altered by the capitol (hence why in the beginning peeta calls katniss a mutt, and she called him one; in essence even something like tracker jackers are considered 'mutts') also, it's sad that this entire journey only happened because katniss was trying to save prim and then prim ultimately ended up dying anyways. it's just a testament that in war and the politics surrounding it no one really wins.
Just binged your reactions to this series and I really enjoyed it. You were so observant and thoughtful. I love the hidden meaning in Coin’s name, she’s the other side of the same coin as Snow.
Also in the books Joanna was supposed to go to war with Katniss when she took off on her own they were in training together.... Joanna was tortured in the capitol with being soaked in water and electrocuted... they shaved her head so her hair wouldnt absorb any....and as a final test for them they put them in a rain soaked battlefield where joanna had a freak out and was deemed unfit to fight.
Katniss tells Gale she can't think about anybody like this because she's too busy being scared all the time (or something like that). She fought loving Peeta because of this. Nobody can say exactly when she fell in love with him (every fan will tell you it's this moment, or that moment). But for me, you can clearly see the moment she stops fighting it. The moment she accepts she doesn't have to be busy being scared anymore. For me, when she accepts her feeling for him is when they are sitting on the ground with the door opened, watching the rain. And she turns and looks at him. To me, that's the moment stops fighting and admits that she can't survive without him. That night, she joins him and that's when he asks "You love me. Real or not real".
I love seeing more mature people enjoying this ♥️ I still havent managed to get my mom to watch this 🤣 And I am sure she would love, but she's convinced herself it's just a bunch of kids killing each other 🤔
Awww Manuela! My mother read the Hunger Games series at my recommendation (before they were made into movies), so she watched and loved the films. You mentioned more mature people- at that time, I was in my 30s and she was in her 60s. ❤️
my mom was the one who recommended the series to me and got the books. I was convinced that it had to suck because I was in my phase where everything that was popular must suck lol 12 year old me was so dumb
Do anyone of you saw that Prims cat "Buttercup" was switching the look from the first movie to the last movie !? To beginn it was a black-white hat, at the end it was a ginger cat !!! strange
Hi! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I loved every reactions of your Hunger Games Trilogy. When I watched this movie when I was a teen, it quickly draws me to continue watching the rest then read the actual books. Now, it's still makes me cry when I rewatched the whole thing again knowing the deeper meaning of the Hunger Games and greatly depicts some of the recent events now. I hope to see your reactions again in 2023 or maybe a year ahead for the Ballad of Songbird and Snakes.
Helpful hint: When reacting to a movie, refer to the characters by their names in THIS movie. We haven't watched every movie and series that you have, and when you call some character "Bob" because that was his name in your favorite movie from 20 years ago, it means nothing to us and we don't know who you're talking about. Take notes if you have to. Also, just FYI, the little girl in the yellow coat who recognizes Katniss survives the death of her father but gets gunned down in the next round of gunfire in the book. I mean, just in case you need more reason to be repulsed by the Capital.
I agree but unfortunately it isn't just them. I always have Google open to get who the character is to try to figure out which one they are talking about in the current movie
