If Armin and hange really claim what eren was doing wrong and if they believe they can talk out with rest of the World for peace then why not talk with your own people like yeagrist and people of paradise but , they never try instead of try they just accept we have to kill every member of yeagrist to stop rumbling to me they are doing the exact same thing like eren and rest of world so how can we believe the the alliance and scout in middle of everything to me they think of ourselves to much high mighty even they save the world by stopping the rumbling they are not going to send morally good message to the reader at the end because technically they doing exact same thing like eren committing the genocide against paradise so there action are also not justified in the end .

My whole thing with the ending is because it's a manga, the dialogue can be read fast, making the chapter feel rushed. However, I feel like, with voice acting and animation, the ending will feel more drawn out and makes sense a bit more.

@Oligoden The eren's body fight took roughly 3 1/2 manga chapters, i doubt they will fall short adapting. I would not mind tho if they did. If you look for example at the season finale of JJK the fight is way too short in the manga and the added scenes in the anime made it wayyy better. So I actually hope they do it, not because they will fall short, but because AOT just deserves it.

I think a lot of people missed the part where Eren literally admitted to Armin that if by chance, things turned out differently from the visions and Armin and co couldn't stop Eren, he would still destroy the world. That is what Eren personally believes is needed to be done for the sake of Paradis. But in the end, Armin and co did it. They stopped Eren. And so, Eren entrusts the world to them to see where their choices go instead.

I liked Eren crying about Mikasa, only because we all have a selfish side. He’s 19. But Eren didn’t express that to mikasa because he doesn’t actually want that for her, he wants her to be happy n live a long happy life. His insecurities kicked in, like he always had since the beginning. But chapter 138 reflected Eren’s selfless side. His actions spoke louder than his heart for that matter. Eren just had one big ass meltdown before his death to his bests friend, which armin in a way snapped him back going “thats pathetic” which Eren calms down.

Eren did rumbling because 1) It was his destiny (" I had to") 2) To Free Ymir (Attack Titan sought freedom ironically not for himself but for the founder) 3) To save Paradise 4) "To protect Mikasa, Armin and every one" 5) " I don't know why... but I wanted to do that" (His own idea of freedom) If Eren destroy the whole humanity outside the world then 1) Makasa and Armin had no reason to kill Eren 2) Eren had to kill the Alliance to complete Rumbling which was not his real actual goal 3) Curse of yamir continues and Yamir never gain her freedom 4) There is also a possibility of Civil war in Paradise as the military's chain of command was broken and the Yeagerists decide to kill the Voluntary soldiers of Marley and the Queen was not is a condition to control the situation. Even the common people were divided into two parts - one group supports Eren and the other opposes. As we see in the last panels that the fear of being attacked by the rest of humanity outside the wall makes Paradise a united nation. And If the curse Yamir is not annihilated then there was also a possibility of being civil war regarding the issue of inheriting the 9 titans which was happened during the time of Karl Fritz. 5) More over Eren was not roal blooded Yamir only gave him her power in the hope of being free, So, it all was predestined. For many readers this ending was not satisfied as we have not got a proper conclusion. It is still unclear if peace is established or not. BUT I think that Isayama does it on purpose. If the manga ends with that peace is established, it will somehow justify Eren's action of erasing 80% of humanity for the sake of peace and if the manga ends with the war still goes on, the sacrifice of Eren Makasa and Armin and 80% of humanity will go in vain. So Isayama leaves it to the readers how they will interpret the ending. If we talk about Eren I really sympathies with his character. Personally, I like the character of Eren upto season3 (which is not a popular opinion). Eren is someone who is always driven by emotion while taking an action, he is not as smart as Armin and not as Calculative as Zeke or Erwin. The basic primary reason of his action is always to protect his loved ones. In season 4, Eren is portrayed is a different way - a badass, smart, Calculative, apparently emotionless person who apparently does not care about his friends and does not even hesitate to hurt (Mikasa and Armin) or sacrifice (Sasha) them to achieve his own goals. I do not hate this aspect of Eren's character but for me this kind of personality is really out of his character. Sometimes even I feel like it is another character who is also named Eren or this kind of personality is forced to the character of Eren. But at the end of the manga, specially, in the convention part of Eren and Armin, it is literally clear that Eren was always Eren, he never changed, he was always desperately trying to hide his true emotions from the others. I am happy that at the end, Eren at last express his true emotions, his true pain and his feelings of guilt in front of his best friend, Armin. But there are also some plot holes in the end and it was a bit rushed. (For instance, How Makasa goes back to Paradise with Eren's head - by walking and swimming 🤔🤣) ALL OF THESE ARE ONLY MY OPINIONS ABOUT THE ENDING
@DundG

But did she burry his head there? Maybe this was a sea burry and a piece of his hair rests on the tree where Mikasa can always visit him?
@DundG

@ige77 He wants it because Ymir wants it and she is part of every Eldia. And because he has the attack Titan who is Ymirs will to be free and the founder who gives him the strongest connection to the stem of the Titan tree he is more connected to Ymir then anyone else. So her desires creeping into Eren, mixing with his personality and becoming his desires makes sense. Armin also got personality traits from Berthold because Berthold is the closed connection in the paths from Armin. He doesn't know why he wants it is because he did not come up consciously with the wanting, it was just there over time as Ymir started to unconciously influence Eren.

I don't honestly think Ymir actually loves the king... that was what Eren though... But that's the point why Mikasa was so important. Ymir was a slave, in her mind, in life, she never actually had any joy in her... But her children... And was a slave of the father of her children, the meanest man was the that still gave the only thing that made her happy. Eren freed her from slavery, but she still was keep in the world because of her children... Something that Eren couldn't get... He's a man... He probably didn't even understand truly love... But Mikasa did... She refused children... She refused love... She refuse happiness to do what she had to do... And Ymir finally got it. Armin and Zeke discussed that the meaning of life couldn't be just... Reproduction. I believe that's the key to understand Ymir... She had no other joy, she didn't understood joy. Only a person who could truly undestand that was able to teach her... Only Mikasa who love Eren in any reality... Could teach her... That there's something more than reproduction... That she had to let her children go.

Eren: I don’t know why 🙃 This shows that Isayama lost his true purpose of telling the true ending which was supposed to be the final panel “you are free” not just put it somewhere in there cause he screwed up. 3- Eren asks Riener why my mom was dead, and at the end he was the one who sent Diana towards his own mom. The ending was fu**ed up, and Eren’s previous words has no value anymore. 4- Moral of the story: keep moving forward until 80% of your enemies are dead. 🙃

I think the main problem is that the chapter really needed to be longer. 49 pages was too short for him to finish fleshing out things as best as I thought he possibly could, but to tackle you on some of your points, I think the panels with Grisha telling baby Eren that he was free was Eren's answer to the why. I think it's a subtle callback to what he has told us before with if someone tries to take his freedom, he would not be afraid to take their freedom and with the notion that he has been "free" since birth, the fact that the world put him in a cage so to speak is one of the reasons he went ahead with the rumbling which in turn explains why he said that even if he didn't know he was gonna be stopped, he would have done it anyway

He says to Mikasa "I'm not your little brother" in a way he was trying to make it clear to Mikasa that he does not see her as family and to stop treating him like a Child or brother. Hey, I agree with your points and I'm happy that there are some fans who like the ending coz I feel like our opinions are a minority. Although I would say that the ending was not perfect and yes, it could have been better but I'm satisfied with its conclusion. Also, I always viewed Eren as a human not someone who was a chad or god so it was refreshing to see him act as a brat. When Eren was saying he wanted Mikasa to only love him, I actually thought that he was selfish and acting pathetic. However, I do empathize with him because for 4 years he bottled up his emotions and he finally let it all out in front of Armin. A lot of people were complaining that Eren saying that was toxic but you have to think about it, Eren is dying and he can never fulfill those dreams. He was selfless enough to give up a life with Mikasa because in the end, he asked Mikasa to forget about him.

Ikr, Eren is still a teen, he's been hiding his true emotions all along and proceeding with this suicide mission of his, he feels guilty and sad, honestly i was fine with the ending, eren always knew that he couldn't live a long life no matter what he did, so the best he could do was to give his loved ones a longer life, and war will never end. AoT has a realistic ending but the way its shown is too dark. I hope Mappa fills the plot holes because they added a few scenes here and there in part 1.

Is no one going bring up how Ymir Fritz was retconned into being in love with King Fritz of all people? That dude burned her village, killed her family and friends, enslaved her, tortured and mutilated her, had her hunted for sport by his men and hunting dogs, raped her forcing her to bear his children, etc. She was operating as a slave under his will for 2,000 years until Eren freed her. She even starts listening to Eren after he asks her whether it was her who brought him to Paths. The line about Mikasa now freeing her makes no sense within that context. Ymir breaking free of the Royal family's control was what allowed Eren to bypass the need for the royals to enter and utlize the power of Paths and the Founding Titan. This was why Zeke's death ultimately stopping the Rumbling felt weird. Heck Pastor Nick specifically stressed back in Season 2 not to let the Wall TItans get sunlight lest they revert to being oversized pure Titans. Without the Founder's control, they should have started rampaging in a more chaotic fashion. Plus Eren was able to use the Founder's power even after Dina Fritz's Titan was killed albeit briefly. The whole Eren being in love with Mikasa scene was also poorly done. It made Eren out to be pathetic as he could have confessed any of his 'feelings' to her whenever he wanted. The fact that Mikasa's choice rendered this universe also is quite bad from a storytelling perspective. Based on this logic, if Mikasa confessed her feelings to Eren, they'd run off together while leaving Paradis to burn in the face of the World's combined attack on the island. That's essentially a betray of Eren's character right there.

About rumbling, Zeke existance allowed Eren to enter the paths because of royal blood. When Zeke died connection to paths was severed and it stoped rumbling for a second until the Yimir didn't used "paraside" to reconnect to Eren and potentially start rumbling yet again. Pastor Nick is just a npc who doesn't have full knowledge about titans, he knew about titans in the wall, but other than that he knew notching other than common fact that Titans are inactive during night. Yes he could have used it for seconds after he touched Dina but commanding few brainless titans would be much easier than controlling rumbling again. Eren confessing his love to Mikasa was real, it made him look like human being because he have emotions and he regret his actions. After touching Historia hand he wanted to push them away because he knew he would die. Eren showed her a possible future, he was already a broken man at this point, he wanted to show her what possibly could be and she shouldn't feel sad for killing him because it was the best choise for both of them.

@@brolveth6665 Yeah I get that Zeke was necessary to enter paths. But the whole thing about the royal family is pretty bunk since all Subjects of Ymir are still the descendants of her and King Fritz which is how they’re connected to Paths. But as she was enslaved to the throne she only recognized them. So they’re all still technically members of the Royal family. Eren looked pathetic. His confession should have been set up way earlier. It just comes out of left field. Plus all other chapters showed Eren more or less viewing her as a maternal/sisterly figure. There were no real signs of a romance aspect. Eren trying to pull a Lelouch was so ham-fisted and forced. The dialogue here felt like an abridged series.

There's plenty of literature on the experiences of people in captivity, concentration camps, etc across history. Some of those experiences can be incomprehensible to an outsider's view. Morality gets twisted in these contexts because the impulse to survive becomes paramount. I'm not talking as trying to "defend" the concept of Stockholm syndrome, I truly don't know or care if it was debunked; I'm talking as someone who happens to have investigated cases of captivity, torture and r*** by the military in my country. It. Happens. It happens, that SOMETIMES people develop attachment to their abusers in an unequal context. It just does. It doesn't mean it's okay, it doesn't mean it's right, it doesn't mean it should be normalized. But it happens, regardless if we can comprehend it or not. Arguing that "Stockholm's isn't a thing" is like saying "There's ZERO cases of people in captivity developing attachment to their captors". I sincerely doubt any scientist could make a claim THAT bold. What could be claimed, I guess, is that it shouldn't be characterized as a pathology and instead be referred to as the consequence of heavy trauma. It would be a matter of classification, not about wether something exists or not. That claim, I can get behind.

I think what really upsets people, including myself, about Eren is how this entire time, he was the one slave among the cast despite his obsession with freedom. He was hopeless to change his destiny, justifying his actions mostly with "I don't know" or "I followed a flow of sorts". I feel like this contradicts what his character was building up to be until 139. The ending is flawed, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as some make it sound to be. PROS: I love how we finally get Eren’s POV and conversation with Armin in the beginning. Also having fulfilling the dream of Armin of seeing the world with Eren (in PATHS form) was actually quite sad as it was the final moments of him and Eren together. Armin as the one to save the world has been foreshadowed all throughout the series, and it came quite nicely. It makes sense cause Armin is the narrator of the whole series. Armin’s reaction to Eren’s severed head actually made me quite emotional. Especially his facial reaction. We started the story with Armin, Eren, and Mikasa. And we will end it the same way. Gabi and Falco were wholesome. Annie finally reuniting with her father, and everyone else like Reiner and Pieck. Jean and Connie final moments and goodbye to Sasha absolutely brought me to tears. Levi’s conclusion to his character was the greatest in the entire series. It was flawless. He finally proved that all the deaths of the Survey Corps and people alongside Levi finally had meaning. Shinzou wo Sasageyo salute and a tear from Levi literally destroyed me. I thank you for that Isayama. It’s good to see a united nation in all of Paradis as obviously the hate from the world will not subside due to the mass scale genocide done with the Rumbling, and will continue to move forward with the world left behind by Eren and his sacrifice, and also wiping out the Power of the Titans. Mikasa at the end with Eren’s grave, and her reminiscing of the very first chapter was heartbreaking. To end the story, a bird, wraps the scarf around her, then flies away, as a symbolism (NOT LITERALLY) that Eren kept his promise to Mikasa. We started the story with Eren looking at the distance with the bird reflecting his eyes. A great end to it honestly. But still.. the flaws and plot holes cannot be ignored. For the ending alone: 7.5-8/10 For the series excluding the flaws of 139: 11/10 Overall including both pros and cons: 9/10 (call me biased, but AoT is one of the greatest stories ever told in all of fiction. Been following the series since 2016). Started reading it when Season 3 Part 1 was airing ‘cause I could not wait a week longer anymore.

My problems with the end is that there are a lot of things that werent explained, or dont make sense, some of them being: -Armins talk no jutsu working, i mean you hated them for just being able to turn into titans, and now this eldian guy kills litteraly all members of your family, as well a propably all the people you ever met, and when they tell them they arent titans every marleyan there just suddenly forgives them. -How did the hallucinogenia go away with Ymir or Eren? We see it in ymirs backstory living on its own in like the tree or sum, so why does it die when eren does? -Ymir chosing Mikasa, I mean youre telling me that a girl who is in love with someone who litteraly saved her live is the same as a girl who is in love with someone who litteraly cut her tongue out and took everything from her? Yh i aint buying that. -So when all that ymir needed was for someone to show her that the emotion of love could be surpassed, and she could free herself from it, are you honestly trying to tell me that in these 2000 years nobody overcame his love towards someone? Like you legit have parents sending their children to become soldiers, yet youre trying to tell me there never was an instance where a person would kill someone he loved? What?! -Historia having a child with the farmer. Like he fking bullied u or some shit, like you can legit have a child with eren but youre telling me she just choses him? Also isnt he like 20 years older than her? -Why is eren the main character when all of his goals are accomplished by someone else? -Eren doesnt know why he went through with the rumbling, also Eren learning the future, which he didnt like, and not even trying to change it is just unlike his character, like r u honestly trying to tell me that after 3 seasons of complaining about how he isnt free and thousands of sacrifices just to help him maybe get toward that goal he is just suddenly okay with not being free? -Eren saying he wont leave paradis s future up to fate. Well he does exactly that, so what was the point of him saying that. -Eren throwing everything on armin. I mean armin never really wanted to join the survey corps in the first place, and now the guy who litteraly said in the first season that litteraly the government should just throw all the burdens on his shoulder and let him fight for them and the freedom of the people in the walls just throws it all on armin, and now armin has to save paradis. -Eren never really achieving anything aside from killing his entire family and taking paradis s only way of winning the war, the titans, away from them. -Paradis litteraly being in a fascistic regime, which is like the most anti-freedom regime in the history of humanity, like seriously these guys litteraly took all the rights from jews and now we have something similar in the "anime about freedom" -Grisha giving eren the founder and the attack titan. I mean Grisha litteraly told Zeke to stop Eren, but he still gives him the two titans, so just what exactly made Grisha do that? Was it seeing his son destroy the world, or maybe perhaps kill his mom? (note: I honestly think Isayama just forgot about this, as there litteraly isnt any logical answer to this question.) Finally I would just like to say that I didnt hate the ending, but for me it was a 5/6 out of 10, when I think it could have easily been a 8/9 out of 10. And even if some of us hated the ending, we still have to appriciate this legendary series Isayama brought us, thank you, Isayama

Why are people complaining about armins talk no jutsu? Armin being able to take control of a conversation to prevent a situation from escalating is part of his character and his overall development. It's supposed to showcase his social intelligence because he does so multiple times through out the series. The first time we see this happen is in the trost arc where he is basically trying to convince the garrison that Eren doesnt pose a threat when they find out hes a titan. However, armin doubts himself a lot throughout the series, and he ended up defending Eren because Eren and Mikasa believed and trusted in him because they admit that Armin has helped them get out of situations before, but Armin couldn't see that in himself because he always thought he was useless. In this scene where he begins to tell the Marleyans that he defeated Eren Yeager, he obviously shows that hes grown a lot, and this time around, stepped up without anyone telling him to do anything. It's also just not the fact that the Marleyans forgave them. It's worth noting, which is pretty obvious, that these people just "saved the whole world" even though Eren arranged it to be that way. The threat of the titans are gone as well, and 80 percent of the world's population is gone. Did you expect them to have massacred the people who just stopped Eren? Seriously yall just straight up miss the point

Yo isayama 🐐 he really planed this ending from the very beginning ok stay with me as I explain. if y’all look up the meaning of the number 845 which was was the number that appear in first chapter of the manga it says That Angel number 845 signifies that you are almost in the final season of your life and that now is the time to be more serious and focused. Eren was always focus on joining the military, killing titans and seeing the outside world, and being free all at younger age. For the love meaning of 845 its wonderful number to receive when it comes to love and relationships because it’s a number that signifies connection. Mikasa and eren connections they together and with with the paths not only that it’s means that It will bring you and your partner closer, and it will help you find a way to work through your issues. Wow! Now the number 139 symbolizes the end of something and the beginning of something else. In other words, the “death” of one thing and the rebirth of another. Eren death not only that the Angel Number 139 is a message to do with your life purpose and soul mission, and you are to pursue your spiritual interests, ideal career and life choices. ... Angel Number 139 is a message from your angels to continue visualizing and taking action towards pursuing your spiritual path. Lol wow eren was ment to do this and I’m guessing Ymir was his angel that help him visualize this from the very beginning that’s sad wow If you don’t understand this ending even more the meaning of 140 is The Expression of freedom and self‑reliance. The numerology energy represented by the number 140 resonates with expression of a personal sense of freedom and self‑reliance. There is a resonance of independence, curiosity, and wit. I am loss for words right now 🤯💔🐐💯

I really want to hate the ending but the more I go back through the chapters the more sense it makes. Eren had an unspoken goal. He became the main villain to reunite his precious comrades with eachother. Before the shifters revealed themselves, there was a serious commradity and brotherhood, this was proven when Marco was getting eaten, they couldn't handle what they did to him, amoung other examples of split personalities. In the end they fought together again, even Bertholt being dead he came back to clear the way for mikasa to release armin. The scene in the ship convinced me, they were reunited and even the banter was similar to the beginning when they were in training.

I disagree with u, as a casual fan. I think this chapter makes Eren Character surpass everything has been build up, and make him one of the greatest character, with one of the greatest conclusion of all time. After this chapter, Eren is become more complex, more depth, and more human in his character. His character conclusion is so amazing, like in chapter 139 Eren see that when Grisha naming Eren, he said You're Free!! It means He was already free when he born into this WORLD!! But he instead build a birdcage to himself and enslaving himself in the birdcage, Its already mentioning since chapter 1, Eren aware of the Freedom around him but he being ignorant. That's why, in chapter 131,Here, Eren thinks he achieved true freedom. Yet, this is just a gigantic illusion, as shown by the "clouds" really just being the colossal Titan's smoke blocking him from seeing the truth. This shows how Eren is unable to see reality for what it is. Real freedom is your comrades living to tell your story. It's existing even without you being alive there for it. When truly free, your existence is not diminished if you aren't there-it's just your ego that says that. How this moment was supposed to be Eren breaking free, was ultimately when he was the most enslaved, since he became incredibly attached to something so illusory. Eren's true freedom moment was accepting death and his humanity, with Armin in paths in chapter 139. That's when he finally Free, Its also correlate with symbolism in numerologi, Chapter 131 : Self-Freedom, 139 ( Last chapter ) : Ending of a cycle, and death of spiritual, 140 ( AoT doesnt have chapter 140 ) : Expression of Freedom. And Isayama believe that True Freedom isn't something that we can express, but accept. So Rumbling arc is about Eren's inner conflict ( Deni and Acceptance which lead to ultimate freedom ) That's why Eren is 10000/10 character with absolutely brilliant character conclusion.

What I don't like about the ending is that they killed Eren before all the enemies were killed by him. There is no way the remaining 20% is simply going to forgive them all just because they stopped the rumbling, after all, the marleys did not forgive them from the stuff their ancestors did 100 years before the anime even started. Because they are still humans and we humans do not forgive and/or forget grievances. Best example for this is what exactly happened at the beginning of the anime, no one living inside the wall is guilty of any crime towards any marley at the time so there is really no basis/justification to the revenge mission Annie and co did but they still planned prepared and executed it which led to the rumbling. There is really no need to kill Eren since he would die in just a few short years. What they should have done was let the rumbling end and kill the survivors and traitors like Gabi and such and boom; no more cycle of hatred.

Love the vid but imo saying ch 139 eren is the same as s1-s3 eren is equivalent of saying he had zero character development. I feel like at first glance the ending doesn’t seem too bad, but when you start analyzing it it gets worse and worse. Many plot holes and unanswered questions. Eren might have caused more harm than good cause if peace isn’t made, then other nations will keep attacking paradis and paradis is doomed without the power of titans. It was very odd seeing characters thanking Eren for genocide considering the fact they wanted to kill him in previous seasons..Eren killing his mother and starting the rumbling so his friends can kill him and “be seen as heroes” nahh, i really hate how his fate was set in stone and he could never live a happy life.

THOUGHTS ABOUT EM AND MIKASA/YMIR PARALELLS, LONG TEXT INCOMING: MIKASA AND YMIR PARALLELLS To elucidate on those parallells: both Mikasa and Ymir knew they lived in a beautiful yet cruel world- Ymir watches both the subjugation of a village, and a marriage between lovers at the same time. Mikasa realized in that cabin that she always realized that the world, as beautiful as it was, was also cruel, and she states that. Mikasa and Ymir are both targeted by opressors: Mikasa was targeted by people who wanted her to be a literal sex slave, Ymir was targeted by the king's men and literally hunted after being condemned for releasing the pigs. Mikasa and Ymir both awaken a special power- Ymir awakes the power of the Titans, which would end up in bounding her at the king's mercy, Mikasa awakens the Ackermann abilities that she uses to fight opression, by killing the last of her abductors. Ymir awakens her power after trying to escape Fritz, Mikasa awakens her powers to help Eren. Mikasa and Ymir both end up connected to two important figures: Mikasa decides to repay Eren's kindess by always being there to save him like he saved her, and does so out of her own free will, getting strong to fight alongside him. Ymir returns to a state of slavery, bound by the king, doing what he wants before returning from where he sends her. Eren keeps telling Mikasa to act more independently, the King always reminds Ymir she is his and binds her more through making her have children. Mikasa and Ymir both share intimate moments with those figures at moments near death: with her ribs crushed and near a titan ready to eat them, Mikasa thanks Eren for his kindness with the wrapping of the scarf, and he replies that he will always be ready to do that before saving her life. Ymir throws herself to save the king's life and he tells her to get up and work, since she is a slave. Ymir is depicted, by Frieda, as a kind girl always thinking of others, but she is also a person, as Eren told her. It makes sense that a slave wishes to be as devoted as someone and have such a relationship and history like Mikasa has with Eren. Even so, Mikasa kills him when she knows he's gone too far, and if she can do it, then Ymir realizes she can do it too. She just had to wait for the right people- Eren and Mikasa. As a contrast: remember that Ymir, called Christa in Frieda's book, was the inspiration for Historia's fake persona, whose arc during Utgard Castle until Uprising revolves around losing that persona. Ymir is the person Historia pretended to be, until Freckles Ymir helped her grow out of it. There are two great acts of selflessness from Historia besides saving Eren's life during and after the Uprising: her becoming Queen, which came from Levi basically forcing her while she replies with a dismayed expression "Is that my next role?", and her taking care of children, indicating she likes them and would probably be a great mother.

A romantic relationship between Mikasa is more meaningful and reasonable than one between him and Historia I personally think a relationship with Historia makes less sense than a relationship with Mikasa, and a relationship with no one makes much more sense than either of those. Even if "shipping", by itself, is to me one of the more uncecessary parts of the community reaction to the series, for me at least, here it goes: Eren knows Mikasa since they were young children. His first act towards her was to save her from a life of slavery, and he ended up inspiring her towards remembering and unlocking a form of great inner and outer strength due to her awakening. After this, they live for about a year together, if I'm not mistaken, and they clearly develop a deep bond, since until then Eren only had Armin as a close friend, and now Mikasa was part of the group. Since "that day", the three are never separated for long, enrolling in the scouts together. Here, Eren shows annoyance at her overprotective behaviour, not knowing what his mom told her shortly before his death, and because having someone always being stronger than him reminds him of his own inadequecies. Still, I think it's clear he doesn't really harbor any real deep negative feelings towards her besides that, and this doesn't affect their previous relationship. It's during this time that he meets Christa, and he makes what clear what he thinks of her in 54. Historia is someone he cares about much more, since he was unnerved by the Christa facade. During all of season 1's events, it's Mikasa that is most affected by his death other than Armin, and she almost gives up on life before reminding herself or Eren's words. As she decides to fight, Eren appears from behind her, and ends up saving her life, even when not being fully aware of it. At the forest, it's Mikasa that heads out to save Eren's life, and it's her who stands beside him showing confort while he cries in the wagon, and it's her, alongside Armin, that remind him of what he needs to do to take down the Female Titan. She stays near him all through out until that scene: when faced with certain death, Mikasa is ready to die alongside him while thanking him for saving her ("wrapping that scarf around her"). His response is to refuse this, because of his determination to live and save her once again, then and whenever she needs to, right before punching Dina. The Uprising arc is the first time we get some actual meaningful interaction between the two. It starts off by his admission that he prefers Historia to Christa, which is understandable, given that Historia is her real identity, even if she considers herself selfish. It is a good start to a later payoff. It continues with somelight banter between the two alonside Reeves, when he tell her to punch Levi. It's a lighter moment, and nothing to deep emotionally. Finally, the cave scene. Eren is ready to die, believing his death to Historia to be a sacrifice worth accepting. Historia rejects this, seeing his self-sacrificing is closer to what Christa would do, and she is not willing to sacrifce someone who accepted her for who she is. This is an excellent continuation of that first talk, but please notice: saving Eren is not her only motivation here. She hesitates, and then remembers how possessed Frieda looked sometimes, and ends up finding out that her dad was not being truthful about the effects of inheriting the Founding Titan. Her release of Eren is as much of an act of rebellion against her father as it is a refusal to sacrifice him like her father was ready to do with her. After reminding herself of what Ymir told her, she tells him to stop being an idiot, refutes these grand statments of saving humanity (here still considered the people in the walls) and says this: **I may be humanity's enemy, but I'm your friend Eren (...) when I see someone crying, saying no one needs them, I want to tell them: no matter who, no matter where, I'll come to the rescue".** Here, I see Historia proving herself to be an ally of Eren, but doing something that she would do for anyone in his situation. They are certainly friends, but her words don't seem as personal as the ones between Mikasa and Eren against Dina. Going now to the scene before Zeke's fake plan is revealed: Mikasa reveals a bit of her lineage, but is apprehensive about showing her tattoo. Eren encourages her, and it's Historia who remarks about Mikasa only showing that very personal thing to Eren, making her blush if I recall. Historia herself seems happy about that, just as she seems happy to find someone to share a similar type of familiar burden. Eren, in particular, to me, seems to smile at neither of them in particular, but at the two together sharing a close moment. Let's visit the next memory: the chapter 130 you mentioned. Eren has his entire convo with Historia, in a reversed position when compared to the Uprising scene- Historia is the one needing to apparentely be sacrificed for humanity, and Eren is the one against it. She is the one who claims that's wrong, and Eren is the one that argues for her. It is a beautiful inversion of the previous scene, but personally, despite there being a pregnancy discussed, I see no true, direct admission of love being more likely than Eren seemingly returning the kindness that Historia showed him in that cave and refusing to continue the cycle of titan domination Historia knows that Eren is planning something that can't be undone, says there's no way she can't oppose him, but upon realizing both that she can't stop him and that there needs to be a way to halt her death, she proposes that she has a child. Now, let me copy from myself what I said about this before about the subject: As for the father... I'm pretty sure it's the farmer. As I'm pretty sure Historia's pregnancy was originally her own was of contributing to the safety of Paradis (she says this herself when Zeke's original, fake plan was introduced), but upon talking with Eren, it became a way for her to finally have a family of her own, and be the mother she always wished she had, with the assurance that her kid wouldn't be born in that world to eat her or be eaten, nor would it have to immediately suffer the brunt of a foreign invasion. As for the farmer... I like to think that even if there wasn't a strong emotional connection at the start, one might have developed as they raised their child. And even if it didn't, Historia looks happy with her child in her arms. And if her happiness doesn't involve the famer in too much of a capacity and she's not too concerned with him, then that's fine- she is, after all, the worst girl in the world. In that very same chapter, when Zeke and Eren talk, and Monke says: "She just likes you so much she'd snap a titan's neck for you", I remind myself: this proof of love sounds very similar to that time when a boy was willing to confess to a girl that he would always protect her, right before trying to fight a titan that was endangering with his bare hands, by punching it, without knowing if that would even do anything. Thank you for reading, and if you managed to get this far, or just skipped here, you just got Zooked.

As an addendum, coming from YT and reddit discussions: Just as an addendum- after a few responses to the Ymir/Mikasa comparison, I realized that calling them "parallels" wasn't correct- "juxtaposition" was the word I wanted. Like I later added in the original post: "I was thinking about how to reply to u/KaiserAstec 's comment, and reflecting on their point about not thinking that the parallel works, when I realized "parallel" might not be the correct terminology to use about how I feel regarding the Mikasa and Ymir stories. Your reference to "juxtaposition" made me realize: if I think both Ymir and Mikasa loved Fritz and Eren, the first because he was the personification of her enslavement, and whom, at the same time, lead her to wish for freedom, and the second because he was the personification of her freedom, which lead her to remain "bound" to him out of her own free will, then the word of that might be juxtaposition, or contrast, instead of parallel. Even as I write this, even if I recognize Ymir and Mikasa lived through similar events, the motivations of the characters envolved (both of them, Eren and Fritz) were certainly contrasting. All this to say, you might be completely right, u/GibbyGG1, and I now better recognize and accept your point, u/KaiserAstec. I like how their stories intertwine, but definitely because of the contrast between them. Thank you both for making me realize this. In my defense, maybe seeing the P A R A L L E L S word thrown around so much here may have conditioned me towards this mistake xD." But I recognize this position my own take, and the final chapter certainly was a bit deficient in showing that even if I could interpret things from what it showed. This is where I hope the anime adds something to give things a more explicit explanation. If you'll indulge me in creating this hypothetical scene: As Eren says "only Ymir knows", we cut to Mikasa moving towards Eren to kill him, with Ymir appearing behind her as she passes by. The camera pans to her eyes as she watches. With the background music, we get the juxtaposed scenes I mentioned intercut with Mikasa making her way to Eren in slow-mo- whenever the scene returns to her, we focus on diferent parts of her- the running legs, the scarf, the hand on the ODM handle. The final intercut is: Ymir's eyes darkening in Paths, cut to Mikasa's expression, followed by Eren (as we got in 138), and a final cut to Ymir with clear as she watches with a small smile. And then the chapter follows as it did. Once again, this is just an quick idea, hopefully I made it clear. It's certainly the chapter's fault that things aren't clear even if you follow my interpretation of events, but I still think something like this would go a long way in adding weight to Ymir's decisions. A final piece of interjection: my rewrite of 139, as someone who really liked the ending even recognizing it's flaws. It goes from the beginning to the end of the Eren and Armin talk: imgur.com/a/lSw1esq, if you care to look.

I liked how Eren complained about mikasa forgetting him. You know it is right to wish your loved one happiness after you pass away, but it does not mean you would feel happy about it. If Mikasa found her own happiness on the one hand would make Eren happy as he wishes Mikasa the best but also sad because it would mean that Eren is forgotten and his place on Mikasa's heart and mind is gone. It's very human thing to wish to be remembered and loved even after your death. Even you know it would heart other person more, the selfishness of wanting something regardless is in every human in my opinion.

I'm here to leave my input, as I am only here to read the comments. I HAVE NOT read the manga, but I am seeing some (thankfully) minor spoilers for what occurred in 139 chapter. I will not discuss the ending, as I have only hope from reading positive reviews and despair from reading negative feedback, so no real opinion of my own. What I do have an opinion on, is the purpose of this story, and the result it has created. Attack on Titan has always been a story about human nature. About the cycles, we go through and chaos we ensnare ourselves in, purely from clashing views. There is a saying that there will always be war as long as there are 2 humans on this planet. Agree or not, it would only be human to do either. I think, ever since season 2 resurfaced, and the following seasons, up to now (especially now), the story has portrayed human nature at its finest. And what I see as genius is that this human opinion-based reaction and action happens in the fandom as well. Picking sides, arguing about opinions and sending unhidden hostility to one another is, in a way, a reflection of the show. Of course, there are other messages and such, but this one stood out to me, the most. And now, as the story has concluded, people clash. Those, whose wishes were unfulfilled, feel despair and unbridled anger and disappointment. Others, that see it differently, feel empty, yet satisfied enough to understand. Either feeling is okay, as thet is an aim for a story- to cause a reaction. Of course, Im not saying attack on titan and Isayama are the only ones that have created such a situation, but why it shines to me, is that the story predicted its fandom. And the ending (from what I got) did not give people what they wanted the same way as the characters did not get what they want. For those that hate it, I must say to you, you are not wrong to do so. You are free to do so, as it is only human nature to hate that, what we do not understand. But ask yourself this, has attack on titan not been a master manipulation tactics to bring out the humanity in us? For those that are satisfied with the ending, seems like you see something beyond that hell. You have not overstepped your boundaries, however, as you are another example of human nature. But ask yourself this, has attack on titan manipulated, told you to feel the way you do? Ultimately, I stand in a position, where I know nothing of what you speak of, yet I long expected a reaction such as this, and I do not doubt so did Isayama. I have seen many compare it and say it is worse than GoT ending, which I highly doubt, as that made no sense and I have no reason to doubt the reasons presented thus far in the story to make sense. And like it or hate it, this is a story- a piece of art. And art is subjective... Another human trait, by the way. :)

I dont like season 4 because of eren becoming evil in the first place. I simply just dont really think someone like eren and armin would kill dozens to hundreds of innocent people (well for eren billions). Like eren use to be the type to think everything through and be insanely rational about everything and obviously so would armin. The mindset eren had in the final season and what he thought was “best” for the world was simple idiotic and so many people in the anime even told him that its a stupid ass ideology. I feel like if it was old eren he would think it through and realize “im fucking stupid for thinking killing billions is best for humanity”. Thats why I really did not like season 4

It is implied he would have done even 100%. The way he looks at Armin when Armin asks why do many? Also nothing forces him to do all this. It is said so often now that he wanted it this way. He wanted to do the rumbling. He is also trusting his friends with the future. Something that has been part of this story since the beginning. Trust in your comrades. He also says he would have done it probably even if he didn't knew they would stop him but this means Eren then would do the rumbling without thinking that he will be stopped before reaching 100%.

This video is generally my reaction as well. I do think there is a lot more subtlety and nuance than many are giving it credit for on first blush. For example, it actually surprises me some didn't like the Future Eren/Dina connection. However, logically it bears out with the revelation of the Attack Titan's true power in chapter 121 as well as the amount of power he received from the Founding Titan (omniscience + omnipotence). If it wasn't stated in the last chapter, I just know a fan somewhere would have made the connection and written a theory about it after the ending and it would have gotten support on all the message boards and chat threads...

The biggest problem with Season 4, before the bad ending, is that Eren never needed to make contact with Zeke to activate the Founder in the first place. He could just make contact with Historia to start the rumbling at any time, so all the events in Season 4, including the fake cooperation with Marley and Zeke's plan are pointless and don't make any sense. The original ending Isayama wrote was AOT No Requiem, but he was forced to change it, or have an AI rewrite it, because Netflix wanted it to be "female centered and more politically correct." In short, censorship ruined it for all.

10:10 Yeah totally, and for a show like AOT, I can't ever see a happy ending fitting it, this how it left off is actually what I truly think fits the show... About the people complaining how Paradis still got recked, what do they think? Can there be eternal peace just cuz a terror form got lifted off the world? Even our world which is considered in a peaceful state now may crumble anytime... And Eren actually made it so that the people that mattered to him live a peaceful life at least, so that's no effort wasted I guess... About him breaking down in front of Armin, well, it was him all along, the exaggeration is a thing but everyone do have that selfish side to them, this says about the world how when you truly open yourself out for everyone to see, you'll be judged...

I agree, the mikasa / ymir connection was kind of cheesy imo but I didn't mind that much. It's not my story it's Isayama's and if he thinks the bird symbolism is important I'll take it. I loved story and the ending overall, the characters, themes, philosophical questions, the message, even the fact that some things where somewhat open to interpretation. Again could have done without wom-kun but this is not a story by committee, I appreciate Isayama's vision.

@Alessandro Palladini The plot holes are a page long and obvious. I shouldn’t have to spell them out. We all read the story and Idk how you can read that ending and think Isayama tied everything together. The plot holes are just one of the problems. Him trying to explain things with “love” is just bad writing in my eyes

Armin was really leading character this chapter. Was so satisfying seeing him punching Eren. And he looked dope in the end on the ship

Something I quite liked about the ending was how it brings the series-long theme of “those who don’t sacrifice can’t change anything” to its ultimate form. Eren wants peace and freedom for his home, but the whole world wants it subjugated, it’s people exterminated or enslaved. So he has to sacrifice his life, his future, his power, the same power that could save his people, along with his closest friends and family, because anything less with fail. He’s aiming for change on a truly colossal(pardon the pun) scale, and to do that, his sacrifices must be similarly immense. He wished for freedom, not on a personal scale, but on a societal one. And he only saw one way for it to happen. So he arranged everything he could to make the world pay attention, and with the help of his friends and family, sacrificed himself in the inferno he made. He sacrificed everything he could for that chance

It would be nice to see Eren wakes up again back in Chapter 1 scene. Except this time he can remember what happend and no more titans.

Like it was said in the video, there are so many fans that not everyone was going to be happy with the ending. Wasn't a perfect by any means, but hopefully everyone can appreciate the journey to get here.

What a wonderful journey. Loved the ending... If you think about it Isayama had a vague plot ending from the beginning. Had tears rolling when see the unconditional and unforgiving love from Mikasa till the end. All his life erin was a slave to a propaganda. Now he is free. Ps., Go back and watch from first you will realise the symbolism of the bird as erin.

People complain to much about the ending being bad but how else could it have possibly ended, the ending we got was the only logical way to end the anime their is literally no other way to end it in a way that would make sense but people complain because their main character died, but how tf else could you end it??

I just finished the manga, cried throughout most of the last volume, and truly loved the ending. I went online to see what everyone else thought (I’m mostly off social media) and was kinda confused that so many people hated it. It wasn’t a perfect ending or a perfect series but I loved it despite, and maybe because of, that fact. The story felt so human.

It's crazy people justify Eren like "Saving his friends" HAD to be this. Bro it's ridiculous, the author even said he changed the original, you're literally warping your brain to understand a plot that is crazy lmao Eren made every bad choice, the writer made the wrong choice at the end, the story still rocks, the ending fails because the writer gave into the fandom man

Actually, although the cycle of hatred is not broken, it doesn’t mean the magnitude of the conflict is the same. What Eren did basically shifted the narrative of history through his plan so that managing the cycle of hatred would be easier for his friends.

@@atlasprime6193 Not necessarily. They are still dozens of years behind the rest of the world in technology, their only ally country is now rumbled and the outside world is ALREADY more advanced than it was pre-rumbling (we saw a proper airplane in 139, flying over Gabi and Levi, when such technology still did not exist before the rumbling- The flying boat used in the rumbling was the first functional one of it's kind) So they are still at a massive disadvantage, and without titans their only wait to make up for it is also gone

@@ruben4257 They’re not as far behind if you pay attention to their state before the rumbling. The allies they made had already help them made a good start. Coupled with how they are already industrialized, and their government not at all in disarray unlike the majority of the world, the odds are in their favor more so than ever.

@@atlasprime6193 Yes, they made huge advances, but nothing compared to the outside world. They just got their first train functional right before the crew left for Marley, when Marley itself already had CARS and BLIMPS for DECADES (they were already there when Grisha was a child)- And, like i said, the world already advacned even further just since the rumbling ended. They are also making progress right now, EVEN FASTER. And yes, their government is FUCKED. EVERY. SINGLE. Military and political leader save for Historia died in the spawn of a few weeks. Zackly, Pixis, Niles, Hange, Shadis, Floch... Not to mention pretty much every single soldier with any experience at all is also dead. Eren is a 19 year old KID who was essentially born to die to save others. Of course he's going to "selfishly" want to stay alive and be with the girl he loves. I'm not sure why that's such a stretch for people to understand. It's not as if he's actually going back on his plan and sacrificing everyone else's lives on the Island to be with Mikasa, he's simply admitting his desires, which are VERY HUMAN DESIRES. The fact that he sacrificed those desires at all is a lot more than most would be able to do in his position.

I think the message Isayama was going for is that people will always fight and commit atrocities against each other, but you should still strive for peace (even if it’s a temporary peace) and that atrocities shouldn’t be justified regardless of the circumstances.
