The design of that ship is actually timeless, rendered with high quality CGI it looks like it’s from a brand new show, not a 30 year old one. Huge credit to those that worked on TNG in the 80s as well as those who faithfully recreated it for today.

Totally agree. You always have the die hards saying models > CG, but this was *good* quality CG work, especially in the next episode.
@76TomD

and the reason the studio wanted it destroyed in Generations was because filming the model was always a pain and they said it would never look good on the cinematic big screen 16:9 as it was designed for 4:3 TV. CGI took care of the physical model limitations and allowed her to appear quite cinematic and actually move like a massive powerful ship.

Been a couple of months, but I can't agree more. Ep. 9 was very, very dark. The Borg weren't just back, they'd taken our kids. Sure, we had the crew back by that moment, but it wasn't until we saw the Enterprise D emerge and warp out that we had HOPE. Her crew at their stations, doing what they did best. I don't think any other ship at the station or even the Ent. E could have given us that moment so well.

Back in Nemesis, you can see the moment Picard started going inward. After Data transports him back to the Enterprise E, Troi asks about Data. Picard's shoulders are slumped and his face defeated. From then on, I imagine he started losing his confidence. Skip to this very moment back on the Enterprise D bridge, his voice and posture is full of confidence for the first time of all three seasons of Picard. Up until this moment, I didn't recognise this Picard at the one we knew.

I watched this with my father who, after a stroke, became non verbal apart from non-sensical grunting - seeing the _Enterprise_ D return on the screen made him light up and roll back the years to when we used to watch it on BBC 2 on Wednesdays during the 90s. I was amazed at the transformation in him as he seemed engaged and back to his better days but then just after Data reported the course was laid in and the _Enterprise_ was ready, there was a grunt from Dad and then, clear as crystal with tears in his eyes, simply said, "Aye... That she is" Frankly, the entire Picard Season 3 crew can have all my money just for that

that's why many people like it, I think. A brighter set for a brighter future, against the dim lightning of a dim present.
@MrMac1138
@MrMac1138 Год назад
@@matteodemattia Exactly. The Enterprise D was designed before Q was encountered. Before the Borg were known. Not long after peace with the Klingons and an alliance. The Romulans hadn't been heard from in decades. The Dominion were not a thing. Section 31 was deep in the shadows. Romulus still existed. The synth attack on Mars had not happened. It was a time of hope, of exploration. However the exploration of the Enterprise D also introduced the Federation to new threats. The lighting definitely is more reflective of the times. The Enterprise D was from a different era.

the most amazing yet funny thing about this was... i'm someone who lets his Imagination run like the wind, i made up a Semi End Game Idea of myself in the story where i escaped from (what i thought was) the Changling Invasion, i had gotten back to that Starfleet Museum and basically made myself my own Personal AI Fleet to fight back... literally making the Station refit the ships with the weapon and defences needed to fight back, and even semi made it like the STO mission where your Character faced the borg with every ship from every Series, from NX to TOS, To TNG to Kelvin, To Voyager, to DS9, to Discovery, to even STO's Enterprise F, i even had the Hidden idea that the Enterprise D was hiding for a Surprise... AND YET IN THIS VERY EPISODE THAT WAS ACTUALLY THE BLOODY CASE... God Speed these people behind this Season, God Speed the Grandest Return of the Enterprise D and its main crew, and i Pray for the Bloody name of Q Himself, NEVER, EVER, Let history forget, Of the Name, ENTER-MOTHER-FUCKING-PRISED D

The hairs on my arms were standing on end the whole time and even after seeing it countless times, watching everyone together on the bridge and then the ship herself gliding out and flying off just hits me. It really does ring back to a more optimistic time and the Enterprise D really symbolises it.
