A great soundtrack for one of the best movies ever made, my favorite since 1974. Ragtime wasn’t as popular during the Depression as it used to be, but Scott Joplin’s music was absolutely perfect for The Sting!
Well... With Ragtime technically being a type of jazz, and jazz being enjoyed along with big band swing, (swing also being a jazz genre) then it kinda stayed popular during the great depression
It fits because Ragtime was the music when the old cons like Luther, Henry Gondorf, Kid Twist, JJ were young and in their prime in the early 1900s. Actual 1930s music like Swing is the music of young guys Hooker.
I was 14 when this film was released, and we were introduced to Joplin's wonderful music. My 15 yr old boyfriend was a talented pianist. We would visit in my parent's basement, and he would play Joplin for me! He would say, "now this is the correct tempo" for the particular song, and next he would play it at his highest possible speed, which was darn fast! I would clap, and we would laugh with pleasure! It was like champagne for the ears, as I look back and remember.
Hey Regina. I was 2 years old, but this song was still part of the zeitgeist when I was a kid and teenager in the 80s. Your memory is much more beautiful than mine, however
@@crackawood I made an error, my bf was playing at breakneckspeedthis song more moderately. Sorry for my mistake.introduced young ppl to Joplin's music. Even though I was more of a "rock music" person, I also enjoyed Classical music as well as new folk & county. Joplin's work was just amazing to me! So pleased you got to hear as a child and appreciate as a teenager. Best wishes and thanks for the conversation!
Paul Newman, Robert Redford, et al - one of the best films ever made, I can't fault it (not very much); it's a bit silly in places, but overall, excellent. 5* And I was only just born when it was made, but have watched it many times...This film is as old as me. 😁
The Norwegians knew the Russians had it rough on the other side of the border, so one day they arranged a show for them. It started with the sergeant yelling at the cook for charring his pork chops. He then promptly ordered two other soldiers to put him against the wall, and had him shot. Then after a while a scooter came with a body bag, and they drove him off. You know. The cook wasn't shot for real, of course, but... I think it sure gave the Russian border guards something to talk about! :D
I was a teenager and spent my really low income on this movie. I didn’t and still don’t like the theme of the movie. One thing it did though gave me the biggest surprise of my life and how the film ended. Worth the money at the end. The Democrats lost the election and the greatest sting is playing out before the world. Trump 2020 Greetings from Melbourne Australia. We need to get rid of our iron socialist grip our government has on our state. Living under a dictatorship for months is horrendous unnecessary metal emotional abuse. Two thirds of the people are either ignorant or socialists sad state of affairs.
