i dunno Mitch. Frustrated at guitar, a gifted uke became an obvious move for me because i had enough fingers to chord. the lute looks like a switchboard nightmare to me, like pedal or lap steel. And if he says lutes are pricey, here's to somebody putting out a make-it-kit like for ukes. after this video i like having lower bass range sounds like piano
he gets that ragtime bass note when he needs it. and wow the 3rd sequence, i loved playing it on piano as a kid, like my parents were getting their money's worth in lessons
I love it! Thanks for all of the work you do on the lute, it keeps me motivated and really widens my view as to whats possible on this majestic instrument! Thank you so much!
another amazing arrangement, daniel! you’re amazing at picking out pieces that you would never otherwise hear on different instruments. they’re strangely soothing, too! i showed my dad your version of house of the rising sun and he fell asleep 😂
I would love to learn to play it! Have you thought about publishing this arrangement? Or a book of your other arrangements? There is really nothing out there for “modern” music for the lute and I think most lute players would like to have some tunes in their repertoires from the last 100 years.
Good evening Daniel, Well that was good fun! Just off to bed and now I havea Lute Rag running around my head. Still I'll go to sleep happy with that. What is on your right little finger? Is it a pick or a band aid? A pink pick placed 'pon your pinky perhaps? Thanks for a fun piece. Keep Safe and Keep Playing Clive
Thanks Clive! the pink is a pinky-prophylactic. much of the time the pinky is resting on the lute top and if the nail is not short it will do some serious damage to the wood. so I clip off the little finger of a latex glove (still have a supply from the dental office) and voila! a finger condom. so far as I've noticed no other lutenists have thought of this...the latex also provides a more stable anchor on the top. good eye, Clive- you're the first to notice this!
@@danbluedeer I did not suggest this but I love "The Sting." I am the one who asks for "Hey Bulldog" after every Beatles post. We all love your work. You make plucking strings look so easy.

A sound very unsual to be taken from the lute, a rag piece isn't what you'd expect to hear on the lute, however it sounds beautiful, and I don't know how to put it into words, but the lute to this piece, gives it the sound of literally been played on an out of tune guitar(as the saloons played rags on out of tune pianos) and that's how you can tell a piece was well arranged
