WARNING: There are flashing lights at around 15:03 of the video. If you're sensitive to that please skip Thanks for watching fam. Don’t forget to like and let me know your favorite game from the classic Mega Man series below.
@TheBlackMastadonte hey, as a game designer, I know exactly how much production goes into something like these videos and I'm thrilled you're out here Killing it. Favorite classic game for me is easily 1. I think it holds up as a complete game even now, it's the first game I ever beat, and I used to have that foam launching mega buster . But my favorite music is from 2 and my favorite production is 7. You're asking about one of my top three franchises rn I gotta stop myself from explaining why each game is a different kind of favorite 🤣
I had the same problem with the first Dragon Warrior. Got stomped by slimes, and I dropped it years later after playing other RPGs. I learned how to play properly.
@@TheBlackMastadonte Megaman 7 is my favorate game in the classic series, it was the first Megaman game i was introduced to in the series and i was hooked ever since.
Dude I just wanted to say don't feel bad for getting bodied at the 2nd level in Megaman Zero, the EXACT same thing happened to me and I legit grew up playing the old school megaman games on NES lol
50:56 - Fun fact: Mega Man 11 has a promotional manga that clarifies that Mega Man fought Fuse Man first and emphasizes that the Robot Masters and even the mini-boss Mechanoloids are among the fastest, strongest, and tankiest foes he’s ever had to fight period. Which, huge disrespect on Bass, King, and the Stardroids. Anyways, Rock won in the end with a Double Gear Charged Shot after spending most of the Fuse Man fight getting smoked.
ok the earth robots I get, but the STARDROIDS?! the androids built by ancient alien civilizations to conquer planets?! dude, that double gear system must actually be way stronger than its being made out to be
@@theblazingpyro5914 that has the same energy as in DBZ when in the cell saga Gero, a fucking normal ass human made a bunch of androids and cyborgs that were stronger than freeza, the literal peak(at the show time) of power, bro WHY ARENT YOU USING THAT TECH TO IMPROVE HUMANITY 😭
Fun fact: King from the manga is actually a scrapped Dr Wily project. Basically after being forgotten by Wily, King finished the construction himself and in the process, learned that humanity is weak and robots do all the work so he started the uprising
@@TheBlackMastadonte Dr Wily in the manga was surprised at first when King's army, made of Wily robots that King made from files stolen from Wily, attacked the castle. Wily did show up in the end fight between MegaMan and King but was quickly shot down by King
If the Black Mastandote will cover each era of Mega Man/Rock Man, then this will be a blessing treat. I can't wait to see my favorite Mega Man from the .EXE/Battle Network Era. 😁👍🏻
I like to think Wily starts his robot numbers from Light's because his ego is like, "I upgraded and reprogrammed these to perfect them, they're MINE now!" :)
Not gonna hold you, the fact you came into megaman with zero is goated. It was nice that capcom made it where you can play any generation of megaman without needing to play the other(meaning you could play the first titles Megaman x, Zero, ZX, and legends eithout needing to play the original megaman). All in All, awesome work Donte😎👍
Thank you so much for putting out these consistently high-quality lore videos! Its the closest i get to reliving the original feeling of discovering these deep interwoven stories, and you always pick one of my favorite franchises. S-Tier as always ✨️ so hype for the rest of the franchise.... the themes alone make it so heavy
DUDE amazing video, a little fun fact is that napalm man could be the actual winner of battle & chase, during the game he enters the competition because he wanted the money to make a weapon museum and in the M&B CD database is stated that he built it but nobody went lmao
Some things i caught while watching: 1) In Powered Up, Oil Man and Time Man have the serial numbers DLN-00A and DLN-00B to not clash with the first two Wily numbers. 2) The Mega Man World series is mentioned in 11 (can't remember where exactly but it's in one of the bios), directly confirming this series as canon. 3) Wily Wars goes directly after Mega Man World 2 as it's Wily's second attempt of using the Time Skimmer (now modified to go to the past). 4) Doc Robot, while not as important to the series, takes a part in the plot Mega Man 3 but was still not mentioned in the video. 5) Beat and Auto don't get a mention either, Beat was a present from Dr. Cossack to Mega Man and debuts in Mega Man 5 while Auto serves as Dr. Light's assistant and runs a shop of his own in Mega Man 7 and Mega Man & Bass. 6) Bass has his own campaign in Mega Man 10. Just a couple things that might help in a future video or just for some extra info, please correct me if i'm wrong in any of these.
amazing video, loved the style and the speed, I tried watching other lore videos from other cc but this is truly exactly the one I had been looking for, super excited to see the rest of the series!
Independent thought is not free will. Free will is Megaman X's era. Independent thought allows the robot to do things they weren't programmed to do, so long as it doesn't directly contradict their programming.
Dude... your story so mimicks mine growin' up. I got MM2 when I did good in school, and for a bday/ christmas present. I ended up buying all the rest with my hard made money. Great video!!
@TheBlackMastadonte this is a great video this is just a suggestion for a future episode of Honest Gaming History once you’re done with the mega man series. You’ve already covered both ratchet & clank and Jak & Daxter it’s obviously destiny that you finish the gaming duo by covering Banjo & Kazooie. I think you’d do such a great job just something to think about.
@@TheBlackMastadonte If you're going to play Banjo a Kazooie hears what you have to know. The first game is pretty simple but Tooie has much larger worlds, and a lot harder to navigate.
Our Beloved BOAT (Best Of All Time) MastaDonte is BACK!! And he's doing one of my most favorite video games series history and the Blue Bomber himself MEGAMAN, Man I love you Donte.🤟❤
Mega man X had a massive hold on nostalgia from my childhood. The first levels soundtrack and background immediately transports me to an age of vulnerability and innocence.
I've been working on going through all of the classic games via the legacy collections. I had played 1-6 a ton back on the NES but I'd really never touched 7-10 before, but got 11 at release. I really enjoyed getting all of the timeline/side game content as some of those I hadn't even heard of before. Thanks for the video!
It should be noted that the Wily Numbers from Mega Man 4 were actually Dr. Cossack Numbers, as the Robot Master Field Guide confirms. Apparently, Ring Man & Skull Man were combined efforts of both Dr's.
@@TheBlackMastadonte And Tundra Man is a Cossack built Robot Master, according to the Field Guide as well as other sources. Honestly, there are times when I wish the Mega Man Classic series was more connected.
just opened the book up, the robot master field guide confirms that they remain DWN units in spite of being made by cossack. it also does not state that ring man and skull man were combined efforts - rather, it confirms that they were built specifically for combat against mega man, rather than being re-purposed older units. at best, it vaguely suggests that wily specifically suggested the concept for skull man ("When Dr. Wily framed Dr. Cossack, he had the Russian scientist design Skull Man to be the ideal warrior, with evenly balanced defense, offense, and speed."). wily is only mentioned in passing for ring man. the idea that the mm4 cast are "DCN" comes from the archie comics, which is not canon (i'd also note in general that the field guide is worth being a bit cautious about in general, as it follows the localisation and its weird missteps [eg; considering break man a "guise" for proto man rather than a powerup] and thus will conflict with canon every now and then)
@@funnytoothpasteman The same can be said for the Maverick Hunter Field Guide, given that it states that Dr. Cain somehow survived the attack on Abel City from the Day of Sigma, and of course, certain information is missing for Axl between the events of X8 & Command Mission,. I didn't say that Skull man & Ring Man being a combined effort by both doctors came from the Field Guide. I think I read it somewhere on the Mega Man Wiki, or it might have been a RU-vid video. I can't really remember.
Great video! I’ve been a Mega Man fan since I was a kid and have watched a ton of content about the franchise, and there was a TON of info in your vid that I hadn’t seen/heard before! Thank you for making my day a little better 😊
Oh so a couple of things, Rockman Rockman is canon since it was built as a retcon for the classic games Rock is still called Rock Localizers aren't the brightest, Timeman is DRN.00A and Oilman is DRN.00B, Rockman World 2 directly caused the X timeline, I did not know that the Rockman fighting games are in alternate timeline but the reason they are is because Capcom doesn't want the Rockman Classic to definitely end this also applies to Rockman X it's the reason why the ZERO/ZX series only happens after ZERO's ending in X6 while X7, X8, and DASH(maybe Command Mission too but unlikely) happen after the X and ZERO ending, your voice is perfect for Forte and I personally believe that Rockman Forte 2 and Rockboard are happening at the same time because it's funny to imagine while Dr. Right, Wily and co are getting along and playing monopoly Rockman and Forte are assisting in the suicide of who is basically there brother. Edit: also X5's endings and X6's X only ending? Disregard them they are not canon X5's endings were retconned out of canon and X6's X only ending was the bad ending to give the player an incentive to unlock ZERO.
I just got recommended this video today and its my first time here! Yo at 1:29 is this your OC but in YuYuHakusho style?!?! Its fucking fire! Im going to finish the video now, but I had to comment about that!
How does Wiley keep funding all of these castles and robots? I think he's either really old money or he holds a killer bake sale. Roll: "A bake sale?! Who would eat anything that snake produced?" Rock: "Light, what are you eating?" Dr. Light: "Sowwy, but you've never twied his bwownies. I think he uses owange zest?"
I love the series, but the more I watch, the more it does become like Pokemon. Bosses are whatever the programer sees around them. Can’t wait for Mega Man XVI and the new bosses; DWN 863: Jingly Keys Man, DWN 1497: Lampshade Man, DWN 5531: Stapler Man, and DWN 3267447853367: Used Car Sales Man. 😂
The algorithm dropped this video on me, awesome job! Instant sub. As a Mega Man lore nerd, I didn't notice any errors (and actually learned a few things). Looking forward to the X video(s)
Praise to the algorithm. Finaly suggested some good stuff to me. The blue bomber was and still is my jam from when I first got a hold of 2 and played almost every main line save the first few battle network and starforce. You're vibe, manner of speech and production are on point friend. If the X one I show up in your videos is as solid as this one you got yourself a sub cause I can't wait for you to hit Zero, ZX and BN. Props.
i just wanted to say thank you for making this and the mega man X videos. I grew up playing 1-6 and the early X games, and your videos were a combination of nostalgia and filling in the gaps of the story. I appreciate it.
NGL, I think of Mega Man 3 as the final installment for my head-cannon. The crushing rubble leaves, Wily needing emergency cybernetics; I talked a bit about that in your Mega Man X vids. .... and honestly the fact that Wily just keeps getting away gets kinda silly xD not to mention the world itself gets cartoon stupid. Like.... come-on. Some dude enters robots into the world's first robot-championship areana and not one person, NOT A SINGLE ONE goes, "Wait... these are DWN series robots?"
Lol I feel you on that intro call out with early game level struggle. When I was little, I never managed to get past the great deku tree in OOT cause the controls didn't want to work with me. Finally returned to the game when I was like 14 and finished the game, but getting stuck in the INTRO DUNGEON sucks XD
My man this is exactly how I got into mega Man zero myself. I was terrible as a kid and then a little bit after high school I found The cartridge decided to try it again and I was in love. Good to know other people have the same experience LOL
Not gonna lie, if I were to make a big mega man protect that requires voice acting in the future I’d definitely ask you if you’d wanna be Bass, you do a very good voice for him and I feel like it fits SOOOOO well! 45:46 (by the way, love the vid! Keep up the amazing work!! 😎😎😎)
Duo and the remains of the evil robot he was fighting crashed into an island Wily was using as a base of operations. It's why Wily got to it first and admitted that losing his new hideout was no big deal compared to the power he found.
Oh man thank you so much!! Tbh I didn’t since I mostly used the Complete Works and Reploid Lavatory, but I’ve been using MMKB for the Mega Man X video and it’s been helping a lot. Thanks so much for all the info!
See, for me, I was lucky enough to get back into MM when it first came out, 1987/88! For me it’s been a joy to see the game series grow over the years. Some have been amazing, some just ok. But it’s great to see the younger generations still getting into Megaman!! It’s a classic series and one all true Nintendo player should play through at some point :) Thanks for the video!!
17:25 Material and in-game evidence suggests they were built as DRWN (Right Wily) Numbers but were later switched to DWN when it is revealed Wily tampered with them (Wily tampering is the stamp that changes an existing Number to a Wily Number, as seen with the original six, or the rest later on, as noted by Right). Rockman does not explicitly learn that Blues is exactly his brother in Japanese. They keep it more vague even later on. 20:03 The exact future date is only given in localization which might not be canonical. 21:26 Likely picking up from him not being found from the collapsed castle in Rockman 3, but I suppose World interferes. 25:50 That actually applies to all Numbers. Right notes he had not actually created free will until later with X.
Found your channel awhile back, loved it, and the algorithm made you dissapear even though I subbed. You popped back up today through random auto play and now I'm jumping down the rabbit hole until your videos autoplay lmao. Great job dude, the info is accurate, presented in an entertaining way, and your edits/animations are really good. All the little references to anime with the different outfits are so dope
Glad to have you back dude! And, Also, while the other *Mega Man* Generations of Capcom have been Popular throughout the years, I'll ALWAYS have my Heart Set out of THE Original Blue Bomber himself: The OG Mega Man! I Absolutely Love The Original Blue Bomber Mega Man, especially his Evil Longtime Archenemy and Worthy Adversary, Bass! Bass has ALWAYS been one of My Most Favorite Epic Evil Villainous Classic Mega Man and Capcom Villains of All Time from my Childhood Years! I even love Bass's Faithful Companion and Partner, Treble! Those two are the Perfect Evil Longtime Archenemies and Worthy Adversaries to Mega Man and Rush! I'll NEVER forget about Bass and Treble from the *Mega Man Classic* Game franchises throughout the years!
Your story from childhood is believable, thanks for your honesty. 🤭 I too, had a lot of trouble with Megaman Zero as a kid. I couldn't get behind the saber play, it was too advanced for my baby brain.
9:26 I think Dr. Light considers it best to give robots independent thought instead of denying them the ability, because one way or another they will develop it, so it is best for them not to get the idea that humans want to dominate machines that are capable of thought in its basic form. Look at the replicants from the movies Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, they weren't meant to have independent thought but still they gained it on their terms anyway. In other words, there's no guarantee that giving machines independent thought is a dangerous idea.
The wests megaman cover art is like when youre in class in highschool and you get your friend to draw the album cover for the band youre totally going to start xD
I love that in the Battle Network timeline, instead of Wily's robots being picked up as whats being developed, it's Lights' net, as Wily was the one who was more skilled with robotics (see copybots from BN6)
Please, please, please eventually get to megan legends. Its such an epic story and I think its that "new without copying old" youve been looking for. What they did to the 3rd in the legends series is a criminal act by capcom
NoooOOooO why did this video end! Great work sir, loved it from start to finish. BTW, maybe Wily started counting his robots from 9 onwards because he was working with Dr. Light when the first robot masters were created? I'm not sure about that but at least in the comic you showed he was there when Protoman was created.
Quick question as a fan of your channel since like 2019 why don’t you do Conscience anymore? I know it’s literally the same person but it just brought a great sarcastic and yet intellectual energy and the banter with both of you made videos even more fun to watch
It was something I grew out of. I want to bring Conscience back but because Im older, I want to do things a little differently. I hope that makes sense.
I've been on a huge Mega Man kick the last week or so playing all the Mega Man X games. I have memories of playing the early Mega Man's when I was really little 😅 I'll have to re visit the OGs too! Enjoyed the video, I love learning about lore.
They year was 200XX... I was just a boy." Way to make me feel old, LOL. I just finished your X series lore, now I am starting this. I am a bit.. tokey tokey at the momento, so... forgive, but yeah, as soon as I started this video and you said that, I laughed my arse off and was like.. wait... G.D. Old Head. lol. I am pretty pumped to watch this video. Thanks again, doggie. You do a really great job! "If you thought the Legend Of Zelda timeline was convoluted.." LOL
"A robot can not let a human or humanity come to harm through inaction" is my go-to headcanon as to why of all robots, Rock decided to go incognito to defeat robots, and is the reason why he just bails after Wily's last war machines are destroyed. Not because Wily begged for spare, not because he wants to be a hero, but because.. at that specific point, menace or not for Wily, the world is just not in danger anymore. The reason Megaman promises to return, is he KNOWS he didn't stop Wily from trying again, and will be ready when he does. And that's what fascinates me with Rock's AI, he didn't try to be a hero, he literally did a 'whoops lemme get this quick before someone's hurt' and everyone thought he was a legendary hero of sorts. Bro just did what he knew he could do. I never saw anywhere in any games explain that Rock wanted to become a hero at any point, they just referred to this as 'a strong sense of justice', which he was not programmed with. Note that I only go by the games, including X so I have a foothold for the laws of robotics. So I have no idea how forced into the canon the comics and mangas are.
comics and manga are usually their own thing adapting or using the setting for their own stories, they're usually not canon to the games but they do at times add extra depth to the world that the games don't dwell on being both platforming games but also old as heck so not much room to expand on things. Manga however is a bit closer to canon as the authors at some points would have contact with the team at capcom so the Iwamoto X manga and the Ariga Mega and Gigamix manga may be closer to the original intent of the team but still having their own spin on things
If I remember correctly, the Data CDs from Mega Man & Bass have a ton of crazy lore, like that Shadow Man is originally from space and that Burner Man was convinced he'd self destruct if he didn't burn down the world's forests.
