Jethro Tull is obviously not Heavy Metal however it's prog rock music worth listening to. Check out albums Aqualung or Thick as a Brick. My favourite is Live at Montreux.
1990 was absolutely insane: seasons in the abyss, cowboys from hell, painkiller, etc. Yet Megadeth's Rust In Peace is absolutely friggin untouchable. Best Metal album ever
@@BradleyHallGuitar Not gonna lie I was suprised you didn't like it as well, but in a way different like "pleasant surprise" kind of way. I've tried to understand the hype behind it, but personally I prefer the more Thrashy Death Metal of the early eras in the band over that Proggy mess they ended up with. And the only 2 songs I enjoy is basically their most popular song and the Painkiller cover. Other than that it's pretty give or take for me honestly.
@@SuicidalGrind The Painkiller cover is the only song in this album I don't like xd (but the reason of it is the fact, that I don't like JP in general).
1986 had a bit more going for it than the usual well knowns: Kreator - Pleasure To Kill Sword - Metalized Vinnie Moore - Mind's Eye Exumer - Possessed By Fire Saint Vitus - Born Too Late Dark Angel - Darkness Descends Queensryche - Rage For Order Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory Flotsam And Jetsam - Doomsday For The Deceiver Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus Onslaught - The Force Sacred Blade - Of The Sun And Moon Metal Church - The Dark Tankard - Zombie Attack Manilla Road - The Deluge Tarot - The Spell Of Iron Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian Helstar - Remnants Of War Destruction - Eternal Devastation
Late 90s - Mid 00s for me. Metal was as mainstream as it got in my lifetime (so far) and although it meant there was a lot of shit floating around it also provided a launchpad and inspiration for lots of bands still going today. Iowa was a #1 album in the UK, not #1 Rock Album, #1 on mainstream music charts. That was amazing
I don't even think it's cheesy, especially compared to other things on the charts at the time. It's political tones still resonate to today, the story is brilliant and the songs stand on their own merits
@@Alex-nq9mw I agree for the most part, I think there are only a select few songs with questionable lyrics like I don't believe in love for example. Lyrically it is really sound overall and you add that to the talent of the whole band and Degarmo's writing abilities and you get arguably the best metal concept album of all time.
@@BradleyHallGuitar Oh man... The twist of irony here is I gave Perseverance a listen exactly BECAUSE of your videos No matter, love your videos as usual!
1. As a huge Maiden fan, the comparison of Bruce to Zeus killed me.👏. 2. Being from california, I will now start referring to myself as an OIK. 3. Love the sarcasm on 1986, but you forgot Somewhere in Time!
Man, between you and ol' Uncle Stepdad youse two are my favorite RU-vid musicians out there. You balance comedy with genuine knowledge in these type of videos. I know you said you were looking for feedback on content and you can always blend stuff. Not 100% silly, not 100% serious, mix it up Beanley-style. Keep at it man. I'm sure some days are a lot tougher than others but if it's any consolation you brighten the day of some schmuck in the states here each time you post haha
I dream that one day Haken will be big enough to mention as a legendary band like dream theatre. The last 2 albums have been fire af with the new album sounding like another heavy hitter for prog nightingale already collecting an award last year.
I've heard one song that was great but when I listened to their discography it made soft rock seem like brütal kvlt metal. What albums should I give a chance?
@@raihidara honestly I love all of them, they only have 6 and an Ep. Vector and Virus I'd say are their "heaviest" based on riffs alone. Affinity is an entire album dedicated to the sound of the 80's mixed with prog metal and a dash of djent. Visions is a concept album that tells a story from start to finish (my favourit album, just got some bangers on there for me), The Mountain I'd say because of cockroach king is their most successful album. Basically just give them a chance the worst that can happen is it's not your cup of tea🤷♂️ I've run into a fair few bands like that. But each member plays a big part in the sound of Haken which I really appreciate.
In my opinion Thrash started with Motörhead, Lemmy's graspy voice just makes even their earliest work actually pretty heavy and if you consider the time it was released in it was like the HEAVIEST thing you could get back then. Metallica and all that is what I'd call the "personification" of Thrash where it REALLY became a thing where it wasn't just one band doing it but multiple bands. But it's hard to not consider Motörhead Thrash with Lemmy's vocals and not to mention, Overkill is one of the Thrashiest songs ever made. Also my favorite eras were 80's to the 2008. Why such a huge timespan? Well for starters (album wise): Megadeth's Killing is My Business 1985, Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness 1989, Dismember's Like An Everflowing Stream 1991 (and everything else in their discography which the latest album was in 2008 ;) hence why that's the last year on my "favorite era" lol), Dying Fetus' Destroy the Opposition 2000 and lastly Vader's Impressions in Blood 2007 (honorable mention Vader's Welcome to the Morbid Reich even though that was made in 2011 because it's just such a crazy fast album with those near 300bpm blasts from Pavulon).
I think Motorhead's influence on Thrash is undeniable but many of their songs were still based on a more traditional, blues foundation, which I think plants them more on the rock side of things, myself.
I wouldn't consider Motorhead thrash, but they sure did have a huge influence on it. There wasn't much chug on the low E, it was moreso just strumming power chords like what most punk bands would do plus blues soloing. Venom really got close, and tbh, their first album might as well be a contender for it. Lots of influence from Motorhead, but it was more dark and cryptic and more fast paced. Kill 'Em All was the first true definitive thrash album tho. Most bands tried to emulate their sound. Rapid low E palm mute chugs, double bass and fast drumming everywhere, shouty vocals, blazing fast soloing.
Trash started with Queen’s Modern Times Rock n Roll, Ogre Battle and Stone Cold Crazy. From then on, someone picked up those tempos and riffs, and just made magic. Just listen to those songs on Queen Live at Rainbow 74, and you’ll see where that energy come from.
Uh 1983 - Holy Diver of course 2001 - Edguy's Mandrake / Falconer's - Falconer 2000 - RoF Dawn of Victory / Disturbed the Sickness / HIM Razerblade Romance / Skyclad Folkemon 1976 - Rainbow Rising 1980 - Heaven and hell, of course Just to name a few.
I started to watch more metal/instrument channels so I wasn't fully sure who this was but I'm glad it was you because this was easily the most comprehensive, legitmate, non-biased historical breakdown of the entire history of metal from 1970-2023. Thank you I started listening to metal when my brother showed me "wait and bleed" when i was like 8 maximum. Since then I managed to be stuck in time around 2000-2010 but recently been branching into like 2015. I think my favorite years would have to be 2004-2005 though.
The 1986 slander is insane. So many amazing metal records came out. Like hello master of puppets is phenomenal, Sepultura debuted, candlemass debuted. I CANT HAVE THIS.
Nicely done! BIg love for including 3 inches of Blood into the list! It might be my german perspective, but I feel like one needs to add the early super influenctial death metal of 1990/ such as Entombed "Left Hand Path", Dismember "Like an everflowing path", Grave "Into the grave" and Unleashed "Where no life dwells".
Nice video, but how is The sound of Perseverence a bad album? It's in my top 3 favourite Death albums, with perfect songs, such as Bite the Pain, Spirit crusher, Flesh and the power it holds and more
I think the main complaint is that it just feels like a bunch of random riffs randomly thrown together. I never got that personally, def one of the best metal albums ever for me
Wasn't expecting Virgin Killer for 1976. Most people would have put Sad Wings of Destiny there. Also, i love how you just went: "meanwhile in germany".
