OK jokes aside, if Thanasis doesn't come to Milwaukee with Giannis, he doesn't come over from Greece at all. Giannis was happy in Greece and had no reason to move without family.
One thing about Wilt, on top of being a perfect foil for Russell and the Celtics, there was a time where people showed up to Wilt's games just to cheer against him. He might have been the first "love to hate him" major athlete and he's much less arrogant than all the others in that category. Him and Russell would stay at each other's moms houses when they played each other too. Their friendship, rivalry, falling out and reconciliation is so crucial to NBA lore. When they were gone the vacuum almost killed the NBA, only to be saved by Magic, Bird and Jordan.
Not that crazy. They're the 2 most accomplished basketball teams for a reason. Sports in their infancy is rough to gain attraction and talent. They face a lot of failures. Look at the UFC right now. 30 years in, you ask someone who the real goat is, they say JBJ or GSP. Other answers like Silva, DJ, and Khabib are respected but the conversation leads back to two sides for a majority.
is yao really seen as a scrub? i've always thought of him as a good big. even though he could abuse his height he still had a sweet mid range shot in his arsenal. good all around player
3:14 I wasn’t going to ‘um actually’ but you said something else I want to comment on, so you get this as well. Mikan was not around the beginnings of professional basketball. Professional basketball has about 50 years of pre-NBA history, and guys like Bobby McDermott, Leroy Edwards, and Hank Luisetti we’re all called the GOAT pre-Mikan. Mikan just started his career a little before the NBA formed. The reason for the comment though is to point out: Mikan never won an MVP. The leagues first went to Bob Pettit, and while Mikan did play in the 56 season, he only played about half of it before returning to retirement.
Back in the days with Bill Russell when Havelchik stole the ball he had just made an error that almost cost them the game. He said please can somebody get these goat horns off my head. So at that time the word goat meant villain. In old times a picture of a goat head was often, granted erroneously, associated with the devil. Now the acronym goat is associated with the highest good. Times change.
Worth mentioning Wilt averaged more than 48 minutes a game in a season Also, playing against plumbers sounds more impressive than playing against streamers with 0 context. Plumbing is more physically demanding than streaming; the 40s must've had some jacked players 😂
an underrated part of those 48 minutes per game is that the refs called offensive fouls like they got a bonus for every one. the fact that a guy as big and strong as wilt didnt foul out almost ever in that era is impressive in itself. people put wilt and shaq in the same conversation for physical dominance but wilt had to play with a lot more finesse than shaq did.
Jordan is the people’s GOAT , only people saying that about Kobe is youngins cuz he died , nobody was calling Kobe the GOAT pre 2020 , Jordan and Bron are still universally ranked over Kobe
@@thedargon6899 yea those are pure haters , both are in the top 2 and i dont think its arguable as far as the 2 best , it just gets rocky for that #1 spot , i got MJ as the GOAT but Bron has a great case

In my mind, I'd love to see Giannis or Anthony Edwards in the future goat debate, maybe even Wemby. I always wonder what my child (if they get into basketball as a fan) goat would be.
Good video but there are some major inaccuracies that come from ignoring the circumstances of some of these players. There are only 3 dudes in the GOAT tier and thats Jordan, Kobe, and Steph. Bird is #4 but hes the best of the next tier. Nobody else even come close to the top 3 Take into account (in no particular order): 1. Who they played with 2. Who they played against 3. NBA/Ref Help/non-help 4. Individual and Team accolades 5. Injuries 6. Results 7. Peer Opinions (specifically those who played with them) When taking these into account, its clear Jordan, Steph, and Kobe are the GOATs with Bird right outside looking in
Actually there wasn't a goat discussion until the 90s. I remember people arguing whether Bird, Magic or the upcoming MJ was the best player on earth but I never heard about the goat title until MJs second threepit
Bob Pettit was in the goat conversation in 1958. I know this from audio of the games of him in 1958. They were calling Pettit a the greatest. Also mikan didn't play fireman he was great
Tbh the only reason Kobe is in the goat debate is because of his untimely passing! Anything other than that is completely foolish! He literally is Mike 2.0, besides the 81, he literally did nothing too different from Mike! So top 5-10 absolutely! Top 3, respectfully nah!
He’s been in the goat debate it’s you ppl that started watching basketball in 2015 they think they know shi when you look clueless to any Long time nba fan
What I do not undrestand is why LeBron gets all the credit for 2016 ring? WHO WAS THE GUY MADE THE FINAL SHOT WHICH LED TO CAVS CHAMPIONSHIP? Kyrie Irving!!
Because he’s far better than kyrie. It’s not even close. Although casuals look at who took the last shot and base their entire opinion on that one shot
one shot dont make you more valuable it wasnt even the game winner… bron averaged like a 30 point triple double with 2stl and 2blk, just straighted dominated the last few games
Jordan was in the conversation coz he was the only one who have a perfect finals record with no Game7, while having only Pippen who averaged 16 as his 2nd option...MJ also was the only one who have a two 3 peats in history. Kobe was also in the conversation coz he was the only one in all of the Top10 greatest players to have 2 back to back rings with no any help from allstars & Top75 players, unlike Magic, Bird, Russell, Duncan, Curry, Lebron, & Kareem who all have their Superteams. He also have a 3 peat like MJ, & with only Shaq as his 1st or 2nd option, like if Lebron won 3 peat with only AD as his 1st or 2nd option. I don't know why LeBalco was in the conversation. He only have 3 questionable rings with 3 Superteams, being the most to have a number of helps from many allstars & Top75 players. He also was the only player to team hop everytime to join with other greats, while still losing 6 times in the finals, which is the most in Top 10 greatest history. He also was the only great to have a disaster losing finals record, compared to any of all the greatest to do it all.
You have to factor in that there were only 8-9 teams in the league in the 60s. So winning a championship then is worth at best 1/3rd of what it is now. Curry's 4 rings defeated more total teams than Russell's 11. The rules also make it much harder to repeat championships now so Jokic, Giannis, Tatum are being heavily under-rated. They're all way better than Wilt, Russell or Kareem. Maybe Magic & Bird start to compete with them on a GOAT list. Kareem only won 1-2 championships as the best player on his team, he got carried by Magic for the others.
Kareem was carried in 87 & 88. Won Fmvp in 85 & was still considered a top 5 player at 38. Magic didn’t carry Kareem in 80. Kareem was mvp & was shafted out of finals mvp because of Magic’s game 6 performance. 82 they were both elite players.
So tired of hearing the BS "LeBron can play and guard all 5 positions"... based on like 1-2 highlights against Duncan & Gasol, shown a million times a piece. "Court vision second to none"?... Not even when compared to Magic, the person who proved he could truly play and guard all 5 positions, for an entire game, at the highest level. Or Larry Bird? Please remind me of the time any of those other GOAT candidates ever quit on their team during the NBA Finals, and moped at the end of the bench. Or used fake injury excuses, while simultaneously saying he didn't tell anyone about it at first because he didn't want to do just that? Putting LeBron right up there with Mike, and leap-frogging all those other candidates is the biggest fraud ever. I have 7th, and sometimes feel I'm being too generous.
If you're old enough to witness multiple generations of NBA there is no question who the goat is, and it's not bias. And it's not lebron, I'll leave it at that.
Lefraud's fanatics living in fantasy land. 6x finals loss and 2x bronze medal in international tournament is the standard for being the greatest. Delusional fan boys 😂

U CAN'T HAVE A GOAT PLAYER IN A TEAM SPORT CAUSE THERE'S NO ONE PLAYER SCORES ALL THE POINTS GRABS ALL REBOUNDS ASSIST BLOCKS AND STEALS BY THEMSELVES AND SO WITH THAT BEING SAID U WOULD ONLY BE ABLE TO RATE THE GREATNESS OF A PLAYER BY BASKETBALLS OBJECTIVE NOT REGULAR SEASON MVPS OR FINALS MVPS BECAUSE WE HAVE WITNESSED THE VOTERS GET IT WRONG TO MANY TIMES LIKE LEBRON WINNING ANY REGULAR SEASON MVPS WHILE PLAYING WITH THE HEAT. SO I CAN ONLY RATE A PLAYERS GREATNESS BY THE OBJECTIVE OF THE SPORT AND THAT IS TO SCORE THE BALL AND THEN DEFEND THE BALL AND SINCE THAT'S THE OBJECTIVE U MUST ASK WHAT PLAYER HAVE DOMINATED ON A ELITE LEVEL ON BOTH ENDS OF THE BALL AND KOBE AND JORDAN IS THE ONLY PLAYERS THAT I KNOW DID THAT FOR AT LEAST A DECADE IF WE WERE TO ADD STATS KOBE HAS THE MOST POINTS AT HIS POSITION ALL-TIME KOBE HAS THE MOST DEFENSIVE SELECTIONS AT HIS POSITION ALL-TIME KOBE HAS THE MOST FIRST TEAM ALL PRO SELECTION AT HIS POSITION ALL-TIME. NOT TO MENTION HE DOMINATED A DECADE IN WHICH HE SCORED THE MOST POINTS AND POINTS PER GAME IN A DECADE FROM 2000-2010. HE SCORED 21,000 POINTS AND AVERAGED 28.8 IN THAT DECADE. SO STOP DISRESPECTING KOBE
HE TOP 30 ALL TIME: 1. Michael Jordan - the greatest player and the greatest career in NBA history. Most dominant offensive force and one of the games best defenders. 6x Champ 6x FMVP 5x MVP 2. Bill Russell - the greatest winner and greatest defensive force in NBA and sports history. A legend on/off court. The key to NBA first dynasty. 11x Champ 5x FMVP 5x MVP 3. Magic Johnson - the great PG ever (so far…). REVOLUTIONIZED his position and saved the NBA. 5x Champ 3x FMVP 3xMVP 4. LeBron James - the greatest longevity in sports history. One of the most dominant forces ever and top5 all round player. Still.. counting. 4x Champ 4x FMVP 4x MVP 5. Tim Duncan - best PF ever. One of the most fundamentally sound players ever. Played both ends at the highest level for 15 seasons. 5x Champ 3x FMVP 2x MVP 6. Kareem Abdul Jabar - owner of the most dominant go-to move on offense. The HOOK. The previous scoring leader and lead all points for 4 decades. The greatest BASKETBALL career ever. Prep to Pro. 6x Champ 2x FMVP 6x MVP 7. Kobe Bryant - see number 1 and dilute the athleticism and physical intangibles and that’s what you got. Arguably the greatest warrior in NBA history. 5x Champ 2x FMVP 1x MVP 8. Shaquille O’Neal - the most dominant ever. The immovable object/unstoppable force. Shaq was the definition of dominance. 4x Champ 3x FMVP 1x MVP 9. Larry Bird - maybe the most legendary on the list. Precursor to Jokic but better. One of the most skilled & clutch players ever. In any sport. 3x Champ 2x FMVP 3x MVP 10. Hakeem Olajuwon - back to back. The best of the mid90’s and second best player in the era. Hakeem is like Russell but with AllNBA offensive ability. 2x Champ 2x FMVP 1x MVP 11. Wilt Chamberlain - the games most prolific scorers. Arguably it’s greatest defender as well. The man could do it all. Even lead the league in assist at 7”2. Wilt IS unparalleled. GOAT athlete. 2x Champ 2x FMVP 3x MVP 12. Steph Curry - the games most prolific shooter and one of its greatest scorers. REVOLUTIONIZED the game forever. STILL GOING. 4x Champ 1x FMVP 2x MVP 13. Isaiah Thomas - ZEKE. CP3 before CP3 but nastier and meaner. A warrior and one of the games greatest strategist and generals. Quietly a top5 passer. 2x Champ 2x FMVP 14. Oscar Robertson - the greatest all around basketball player ever. Could do everything at a AllNBA level. Changed the way players were interpreted and influenced generations. 1x Champ 2x MVP 15. Kevin Durant - the Slim Reaper is likely the most ideal offensive weapon ever. Can hit from anywhere, anytime over anyone. Hard to beat and impossible to match that level of offensive dominance. 2x Champ 2x FMVP 1x MVP 16. Julius Erving - The good Dr., the FIRST MJ (before Magic & Jordan), The icon and face of BOTH leagues that saved the game in the 70’s. Kareem was the best but Doc was a close 2nd. Underrated statistical brilliance. Was like a 6’7-6’8 Giannis but with a better jump shot. 3x Champ (1 NBA) 2x FMVP 4x MVP (1 NBA) 17.. Moses Malone - CHAIRMAN OF DA BOARDS. Arguably the best board getter… ever. Only Wilt, Russell, Rodman and Thurmond belong in the same discussion. Moses lead his people to the promise land more than once but was able to claim immortality in the early 80’s. His team lead by the dynamic duo of he and Doc dominated the league. Before Lakers v. Celtics it was 76ers v. Celtics-Lakers. 1x Champ 1x FMVP 3xMVP 18. John Havlicek - the GREAT one. MJ is 6-0. Ole Johnny is 8-0. The offensive force off the bench or starting that lead the dynastic Celtics to all 8. Early in his career he was akin to Jordan Poole role on Warriors 22’ team but better at everything but the 3 ball. Then in the late 60’s-70’s he sat in captains seat. His career is a unique mix. Played like Pippen with elite perimeter shooting/scoring, early career was early Kobe-esque, late career MJ/Kobe-esque. John’s game rose in the playoffs. 8x Champ 1x FMVP (likely 4x) 19. Giannis Antetokounmpo - it’s getting freaky… GreekMan is literally on the ride to potentially threatening Tim’s best PF title. If he can add a couple more rings to his already HOF profile he will likely be the new PF or TOP 5 player. Yea. THAT GOOD. 1x Champ 1x FMVP 2x MVP 1x DPOY 20. Jerry West - The LOGO. Steph Curry before Steph. The man that built the LA franchise along Baylor post Mikan era. Jerry West was the blueprint skill base for players like Kobe, MJ, TMac, etc At 6’2-6’3 he torched his opponents his entire career and dropped plenty of dimes. The ORIGINAL combo guard. So damn great he LOST and still won FMVP… case closed. 1x Champ 1x FMVP 21. Nikola Jokic - the Joker is no damn joke. Genuinely a candidate for potential GOAT if his career pans out in the extreme positive like that of the top 10. Jokic is in a unique place being the greatest passing big statically NBA history (excluding Magic). If Jokic finds a way to fit more jewelry in his fingers, we might have to have a real discussion about that greatest Center of all time discussion. Yes. Potentially a top 5 player alert. 1x MVP 1x FMVP 3x MVP (should’ve been 3 consecutive but you know 22. Rick Barry - The ACTUAL “White Mamba”. Just predated the black one… Barry was the answer up until 85’ when you asked who the best SF ever. His game was similar to West but 6’7 and a better FT%. Controversial, cerebral and iconic. Had so much game he had to share what was left with his sons… 1x Champ 1x FMVP 23. Kevin Garnett - The Big Ticket. The 00’ Giannis. In every way but he had a better jumper midrange and beyond. KG was a monstrosity on OFF/DEF in his prime much like his modern comparison. Led the TWolves to relevance and led the 08’ Celtics to a chip. Truly the BIG TICKET. 1x Champ 1x FMVP 1x MVP 24. Dirk Nowitzki - DIGGLER. The one and only. The German Bird. THE Maverick. Dirk is one of the most beloved, iconic and acclaimed players ever. The 00’s stretch big supreme. Dirk was able to take the Mavs to immortality over 11’ Heat in arguably the most surprising run ever. Only Dirk. Forever the DIGGLER. Arguably, the GOAT Euro player. 1x Champ 1x FMVP 1x MVP 25. Bob Pettit - Big Blue was the first stretch 4 in the games history. That’s for starters. Pettit was a tenacious rebounder and highly skilled scorer. He was much akin to K. Love of his era but in better shape and played defense. Think a smaller Dirk who grabbed boards like Love but in the 50’s-60’s era. Not only that, much like Dirk, Pettit lead a historic upset over Russell’s Celtics. A true champ. 1x Champ 1x FMVP 2x MVP 26. Dwayne Wade - The Flash. Wade County. The greatest Heat in NBA history. Wade is arguably the best defensive player at his position and easily too3 (MJ, Kobe). Led the Heat to a title in 06’ in historic fashion against Dirks Mavs. Then winning a couple more as LBJ’s Pippen. His career was like Kobe’s… in reverse. Wade’s early injuries reduced his maximum career output but yet here he is… says a ton. 3x Champ 1x FMVP 27. Elgin Baylor - The PROTOTYPE. Before West, Julius, Thompson, Wilkins, MJ, Hardaway, Kobe, Carter, TMac, Wade, Ant etc There was Elgin Baylor. The first Air, the first Mamba, the first Half Man/Amazing, Flash etc Baylor spearheaded an era that hardly wanted his talents there but had no other choice but to be in awe of it. Think Harden, in shape but not as good of a playmaker, twice the rebounder and a better defender. That’s Elgin. *left a season before historic LAL title win 28. David Robinson - The Admiral. The USA’s biggest weapon in the 90’s was also one of the greatest ever. Made the spurs relevant pre-Duncan and post. Has some of the greatest seasons statistically. Think Giannis but 7’2 with a lefty and 15 footer plus an even better defender. 2x Champ 1x MVP 29. Karl Malone - the Mailman was LBJ minus the handles and vision. King of the pick n roll. 1x MVP 30. Charles Barkley - The Round Mound of Rebound was the Tasmanian devil in a basketball jersey. Prime 25 5 13 guy. Impact everywhere he went. OG DREAMTEAM member by the way… 1x MVP 30 (?) Clyde Drexler - The Glide. One of the most useful all around talents in nba history. One of the greatest two way players ever. Helped every squad he went to become a contender. 1x Champ * HONORABLE MENTION: McHale, Nash, Harden, Parker, CP3, Stockton, Walton, Payton, Westbrook, Drexler, Ewing, Sam Jones, Cousy, Pierce, Iverson, McAdoo, Frazier, Unsled, Reed, Webber, English, A. LBJ is in a weaker league with more teams, easier rules, better pay & playing conditions whilst having less career success overall despite playing 6 more seasons… Russell played in the roughest era of the modern time. Not only that, he led a dynasty over talents like Wilt, Robertson, Dolph, West, Thurmond, Baylor, Guerrin, Beaty, Reed, Bellamy, etc etc for a decade plus. The greatest defensive force in sports history and at worst a competent offensive weapon. LBJ played with AD, Wade, Love, Irving, Bosh, and an onslaught of great role players. Idk about a cut. I think Bill Russell and Kareem deserve to be mentioned. Russell was the best defender ever and was best player on most title teams ever. Kareem was essentially the #1 player in the league consistently from 1970 to like early 1980s, and then had GOAT level longevity. You could argue both these guys were worse players skill wise in a vacuum and played worse competition, but ultimately that's not their fault. They played against the best available in their era.
