The Cold War was an ideological battle between Communism and Capitalism, the East vs the West and the resulting struggle for ideological influence and power. At the end of WW2, the World would lay divided between two great superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union. Both sides would stockpile nuclear weapons, with questions over how to use, control and eliminate them becoming central to the conflict. From Stalin to Regan, from the CIA to the KGB, from the Berlin Wall to Hiroshima and Chernobyl, this is the story of The Cold War.

I spent 6 years in the 1970's patrolling the border between West Germany and East Germany/Czechoslovakia in Cavalry and Armor Units of the United States Army. When the Berlin Wall came down I am not afraid to say I cried like a baby. I had lived through the cold war as a child in to adulthood and I never thought I would live to see the Wall come down and Germany reunited. This video brought back so many of my life memories. My neighbour served with the British Army in Berlin during the Cuban Missile Crisis and told me as it got dark when he was on sentry duty he really expected he wouldn’t see the dawn. I grew up in Britain in the 70s and 80s and nuclear war was always in your mind. If it had happened my area was targeted for 5 nukes as it was heavy industry and the motorway network north to south ran through the area.

Agreed. More should be done to enlighten the American people of the heroic deeds of men like Vasily Arkhipov and, as James Taylor already said, Stanislov Petrov. There should be a national holiday here in the US commemorating these hero's of the Soviet Union. We should name streets after them. Without their actions, the world could be much different today. And NOT different for the better.

It is therefore not an exaggeration to say that this best cold war documentary's quality has a significant rift between the second most bestest best cold war documentary. well the cold world isn't something that you can simply define. its basically the political atmosphere of the 20th century. America became victorious after WW2, and because of this, they dominated the world economically. Soviets had dominated their part of the world. The two countries naturally have different goals. But due to lack of information, lack of internet, lack of knowledge, etc people were very unaware of basic information. Now, in 2021, the cold war will never be possible because the citizens of the world are too educated about world affairs. What people never talk about is all the times the USA and Soviet Union actually worked together. It's more interesting to hear about the problems, issues, and disagreements...but there were also times when the USA and Soviet Union worked together. Keep in mind, the USA and Russia always had a trade relationship/citizens visiting each other's countries, despite the proxy wars and propaganda. Soviet Union took out leaders that didn't fit their agenda..as well as USA. People were too fearful of another World War. Thank God human beings are interconnected and no longer so nationalistic! The Internet has made the world so much smaller; for the most part, we all view ourselves as brothers and sisters, despite borders.

Superb documentary. As another viewer said, very concise, objective, and the topics covered were so broad that it would be so easy to get lost in the weeds or go down the rabbit hole of a particular subject, but that didn't happen at all, and you somehow covered just about everything in an hour and a half. If this is the quality of this channels productions, then my new subscription will definitely be worth it👍
