She realized she hit a soft spot in him by asking about his wife and the response from his eyes told her that he was in deep pain, so she quickly changed the subject to books... phenomenal writing and acting.. what a masterpiece of a scene!!!
what's infinitely more impressive is how he has always been in total control of the situation and is never caught off guard but her questions strike a cord that actually affects him. Something you don't see or rarely see in the movie, and something you don't notice until you rewatch
My wife of 18 years went home 2 years ago. Always tough on her birthday, anniversary, and holidays. It's the memories of the little things of love that lift the heart.
@Sarah's Ambiences My condolences to you. The first year is hard. Keep yourself occupied with other people and keep yourself busy. I'll be praying for you. 🙏🏻
I repeated this scene multiple times. She looks so vulnerable and scared and at the same time Robert wants to help but is being cautious. Almost like a perfect dad and daughter role.
Both Alina & Robert's eye are about to shed a tear.... They both know what losing something precious, loneliness, lost means. Such a great relationship. Respect!
This scene always gets me man...two people, one experienced in just how cruel the world can be, and the other being introduced to it. This conversation felt like fate
For a split second you can see she got through his defences by the brief uncomfortable look on his face when she mentions the "widowed look" on his face...absolutely the finest demonstration of acting skill by both of them in this scene.
I couldn't agree more. This is a low-key scene on the surface, but it is a very moving one. It establishes the bond between them that will make him risk his life for her.
This is really good acting and there's a lot happening here. There's no shouting and there are no grand speeches. In fact, they both speak in a very quiet, low-key way, but what they say hints at great depths of character in each of them. What she says from 2:00 to 2:25 shows that she is sensitive and perceptive and that she sees something of herself in him. They are both lost and she sees that. Her realization of it penetrates through his loneliness and despair and resonates deeply within him. He responds strongly to her insight and there are hints of that in his facial expression as he looks at her. Without any over-acting, just by whispering important things about him to him, she establishes a powerful bond between them, one that will motivate him to risk his life to help her. This is a relationship between a man and a woman at its best and this is excellent acting.
" ......... just by whispering important things about him to him, she establishes a powerful bond between them, one that will motivate him to risk his life to help her." If I read that on the back of a novel it would motivate me to buy it, to find out what happened next. It was a pleasure to read your thoughts on that wonderful scene Ben . You express yourself with depth and clarity.
This scene is beautiful. It is the perfect way to reveal Robert's inner wound, that is the loss of his wife. And in doing so reveal his dilemma: the desire to liberate Alina from bondage vs. keeping the promise he made to his wife to not go back to his former life.
@@melaniethomas1000 they can be saved if they just speak up but it’s not that easy but it is possible... we just have branch out. I’ll rather die free than to live in slavery
I had that kind of conversations with the homeless many times..just a smile to their faces and let them hear and see a glimmer of hope through your attention and belief that they can become better persons.. I’m homeless and I grew up homeless..of course I had experiences with abusive people (always asking for favors and even money) that I tolerated to just see how those lying evil spirit in them would work out..all of the abisive people whom I helped (abused my kindness) just didn’t get out much from the “quicksand of unfortunate circumstances” of life and still poor or even poorer because people lost trust on them altogether...
I really like this girl's lips movement in 1:54 when she realizes why Rob got no ring. Speechless, but so powerful reaction at once. Maybe it's just a small detail but makes the overall conversation so frekain' emotional. Great scene
@@avid2112 we cant until the government stops keeping us as slaves under the money slave trade bs. And try to convince us that aliens arent real when they refused help and work with them. Exposed by ex agents posting x files for us to see. And people are still in disbelief
The mystery and passion he had for his wife though his career. Just makes you want to know more about his character...I have my wife with me still but I can understand the loss still from him. Even the he didn’t read books his wife did so he started reading him then for her any small thing to feel closer to the ones we love it’s beautiful...
and i wish i could save all the men thrown in hell as well.. then those women u saved.. and the men i saved.. could via their experience help each other grow and move forward..
If you talk to them like he did it's the most important part we are not all born to be black op operators with crazy skills words could be sharper than a knife
Guys, I came here every night. Every time I watch it, it feels like I am watching it for the very first time. I don't know why but I feel like also I need a quiet voice. This movie gives me the strength to face the problems in my life. The problems I haven't faced yet, the problems that pop up eventually. Anyways, stay safe and just be a nice one. Be the one.
We all know Denzel is a master, but Chloe is great too. There is a couple of parts on this scene in particular where she shows how awesome she is as an actress. The way she reacts to what he says is so natural.. He goes.... "change the world".... and she ..1:30, Look at the expression of her face, her hand and shoulder. The other part is when he says..... "and then I'm gonna open a donut factory"..., look at the way she laughs.. 3:15. She really, really found that funny.
When she says "something stupid" he doesnt buy it, he looks at her right away and makes her feel that what she says was not the truth, then she looks away to avoid eye contact because she just lied to him and she realizes that he didnt buy it! He looks away also and moves his tongue this shows how angry he gets but he doesnt show it! He knows that someone beat her up! He gets angry not because she lied, he gets angry because she makes it clear how much she is suffering and she simply cannot do anything about it.
Great movie, watched it over the Christmas Holiday because why not, Denzel can never go wrong, and it was top tier. All movies from this actor turn to top tier stuff, and If I have to give it a fair rating it would be 5/5 stars. Has to be fair or else the Equalizer might come 👀 But for real, the movie and its dialogue is really good, I hope the second one is just as good. One of the best movies, I have seen, really nice soundtrack as well! Man literally does the unthinkable
yeah men...but i think robert lied to her because he knew that her name wasnt tery or teddy...so he thought if you lie to me i lie to you...and when she gets his real name thats the key point...and then robert starts """"opening himself""""
I don´t see any clip tribute on youtube, but the references to Denzel´s situation by both "the old man and the sea" and the other book is amazing. Such good script. The old man taking the fight of a worthy opponent, and the looking to be the last knight in a time of no knights.
Another thing about this that is lovely - McCall is so usually deeply in command of himself, but there are a couple of moments when she helps him feel his loss/where he actually is vulnerable (in the way a truly strong man can be). And they both act this perfectly - so gently.
What an amazing scene.Beautifully written and (directed?) So well acted; and that connection of intimacy, so refreshing not to have any hidden agenda.Just looking out for each other, and giving a damn. A lesson for .............
They should have a new Equalizer … One where they have him saving someone , but at the same time showing his origin. Like how he got to where he was in the beginning of this movie
Nice interaction. Pain on both sides. But hope on one side for others. True love living life and helping others. Small things it may always matter even if more of them are just small things. We must be able to manage which are which. Small things that counts or small things that don't! Then we can change our bad world!
This an older scene and Denzel is a modern master yet Chloe Moretz does have a depth in this scene that is not there in several other roles. It almost reminds me of a young Brittany Murphy. God rest that poor babies soul. But if Moretz were to take daring roles she still has many years ahead of her.
There are countless movies scenes where two people are just talking about things that are a break from the plot of the movie. It's there to help develop the characters or ties between them, so sometimes the conversation strays off to unrelated subjects. At first it may seem unnecessary to the movie plot line and kind of slow; a break from the real action. But this scene is one of my favorites. The interaction between the two characters, and the acting from these two amazing actors makes this scene a very important part of the movie. So while the conversation may seem unimportant to the killing and fighting in the rest of the movie, it is so important in the way it shows why a man is willing to risk his life to help another person he doesn't even know, yet knows very well because of the things they have in common.
