I am throughly enjoying your videos Especially concerning the Esee Junglas. I have many Tops and Esee blades. Leaning toward the bushcraft. I just bought the Esee Junglas after watching your video Part 1 using the Esee Junglas. Thanks for the practical advice.
The Junglas is a great knife. Lately I have been using the Junglas 2, but either one is still my preferred large survival knife Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hey Dan, quick question. I bought the TCK scales for my junglas, and to me, they feel slick, smaller in hand and in the winter unbearably cold, even with gloves. I wound up putting the stock micarta scales back on which is a lot more comfortable. This is the only ESEE I had this issue with. I upgraded my 6, PR4 and Izula 2 to the TKC scales and love em. Thanks for all you do! ~Bryan RockinHBushcraft
Sorry, I never quite made it to part 3. After #2, a lot of people challenged me to try the Junglas 2 thinking I would like it even better. I did, and they were right. I have been using the Junglas 2 ever since. I do have a video on the Junglas 2 though. I appreciate you watching!
Ochoco Bushcraft i just bought the regular Junglas, i was looking at the 2 but i thought why not get the classic....? And from the little time i had to play with it, i like it a lot as well. I will watch the videos on the 2. Do you think there is much of a difference?
@@ZILAwelds The Junglas is a better chopper. I Love it! The Junglas 2 feels more like a knife but is still a very good chopper. If I was after strictly a chopper, the Junglas is the better choice. The Junglas 2 is just a little easier to do knife tasks with. Hope this helps. Both are awesome and I'm sure you will have a blast using your Junglas!
Ochoco Bushcraft THANKS! I always have a smaller knife like a mora bushcraft or gerber prodigy. I like to have some redundancy and the smaller knife could always be used to do some of the knife tasks ....
Since making that video I have had opportunity to test many others. For the past two years my absolute favorite knife has been the Esee Junglas 2 customized by sagebrushcustoms@yahoo.com. I have a couple videos on it.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 interesting. Would you mind going into what exactly made you pick the Junglas over the Steel Eagle? Was it purely the ergonomics and the feeling that it was an extension of you? Was there more utility in the junglas? Did the steel eagle fail on something? You can probably imagine why I'm asking, I'm on the same quest as you for the perfect survival knife haha.
@@andrew66769after two years, nothing has ever felt better in my hand. No big knife has ever stayed sharper longer. This is the Junglas 2. Sagebrushcustoms@yahoo.com put a 90 degree spine on it and a patina and I've used it to start many fires. Most recently put on burlap micarta handles from THE KNIFE CONNECTION. All I can say is if you get a chance to try one out, see what you think.
@andrew66769 I have all the major brand knives big and small. I'm also a big Nepalese khukuri guy. BUT....if I had to choose only one blade, it would still be my ESEE Junglas all these years later. It just hits all the areas near perfectly. I did convex the edge as that's my preference. Add in a small folding saw and you really have a versatile package that doesn't take up a lot of space. And the Junglas has a much more comfortable handle IMO over something like the Tops SE.
If I may give some advise..Loose your wrist and don't push the blade into the wood when you chop..Let the tool work for you. That way you will get better performance and also you will spend less energy. I don't know any known survival situation where a survivor used a sword size knife to survive.IMHO The best survival knife on the planet,is a Swiss army knife or a multitool. Why? Because you can do more with these and also, that's what you are going to carry in your pocket daily. After many years of search and testing, I can safely say, that all a man needs, is Swisstool Spirit X or any of the bigger Swiistools. That's the BEST EDC tool AND in the same time, the best survival knife, for the reasons I just mentioned. RU-vid,movies everything is marketing nowdays. With all the respect sir, only my grandmother hasn't started a youtube bushcraft channel yet. Also my other complaint is that none admits that batoning, bushcraft etc etc is a youtube creation, everything is marketing and money and I only see victims around me.People that spend their hard earned money on tools that are going to eat dust in their drawers, for the rest of their lives. PS We use tools to survive everyday, that's one more reason, that makes the Spirit X,the PERFECT survival knife in my book. Have fun and stay safe! Cheers
Bruh....no. Batoning with a knife has been around forever. My Mors Kochanski book, "Bushcraft" from the 80's has a section in there for batoning wood with a knife. It also has an entire chapter on axecraft for dealing with larger wood. You tailor your work to the tools you have at hand. You can't just make sweeping statements that "all you need is a SAK" to survive....🙄 If that's all YOU carry then cool. Not my choice for where I live.
