I have all the DLCs already, still was interesting cause you summed up what each DLC added pretty well. I have ONE single problem: WHY IS THE PREORDER PACK NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT DLC??? You NEED it to play Byzantium properly!!
@@therealrealslimshady9390 that wasn't meant to be honest. Ofc a dlc for one single country is not that important. However, Byzantium is probably the most beloved country to play as in the game.

Ludi, i'd just correct you in some aspects: Government reform mechanics are now avaible to everyone, it's not locked behind Dharma. Macrobuilder is in the base game already, Mandate of Heaven adds only the diplomatic tab. In Leviathan, the problem was BOTH in the general patch and DLC. Missions had placeholders icons, bugs related to both, concentrating development without any balance...
Pretty sure the daimyo system, government reforms and the macro builder are part of the base game, the only thing that MoH add to the macro builder is diplomacy. I wish that paradox integrated older dlcs (Res Publica, CoP, WoN) into the game, it feels so weird that national focus, colonial nations and trade companies are locked behind these ancient dlcs.
Honestly, I understand many of the flavor pack dlc features not being in vanilla, but the thing that frustrates me the most is: they give you the subject interaction icon, but there aren't any subjects interactions in vanilla, so it just sits there. The other one that frustrates me is the unability to play as colonial nations, even though they are fully functioning nations, and their tag is also in the game, but they just tell you that you need ElDorado DLC to play as them. Great video tho, I might get one or two DLCs Edit: I got some DLCs, they make the game waaay more enjoyable

I've been playing EU4 since launch, and getting the DLCs when they go on sale. When EU4 came to GamePass I gave that a go, thought it would be cool to get some Xbox achievements. GamePass does not include any of the DLC, it was wild to play the game in that state. And the Xbox version of the DLCs aren't on Humble, etc.
It is a nice video. I play the base game for a while now and for me it sounds like the selling point of most DLCs is that the game becomes a little bit easier one by one. Like getting more manpower with some clicks. Getting cheaper generals, getting more trade income. Abusing the HRE mechanics for you, and so on. I fear if i would use them all, the games are won even earlier than they are already. And i think it is one of the reasons people don't play their games that long. Seeing WCs done in 50 years is the result of this. But maybe i am just to critical about their bad DLC policy.

Don't think you mentioned El dorado EDIT: Meant Conquest of Paradise. Also you said mandate of heaven adds the macrobuilder. But the macro builder is in the base game, only the diplomatic tab is added by MoH
@@Kostek606 Im aware but thats not the point of the video, checking what features that were originally in DLC but moved to base game is important to a DLC buying guide. He didn't say Cossaks adds estates or Rule Brittania adds mission trees because those are base game features now. This one slipped under the radar.
I looked at this cause I'm new to EU4 and wanted to know what to get. I can't believe how much stuff that should be base game mechanics is behind DLCs! At least with HOI4 they give important base game changes for free when they add them in a DLC like when trains became the new main way to give supply.

you ain't wrong. Sadly to really enjoy the game you do need all, but I do mention the top few picks in the video without which the game is really unplayable
The production interface is part of the base game, excluding the diplomacy screen. You can also lower autonomy, automatically suppress rebels and use the policy system in the base game. Even the Papal interactions and culture conversions are part of the base game.
@@LudietHistoria They have moved some DLC content to base game. They do not update old DLC descriptions to tell what was moved to base game. I am uncertain as to what exactly is moved, as I have had every DLC for a long time, but I believe they mostly do it to mechanics to ensure that every DLC can be standalone or just such basic mechanics. I believe Goverment Reforms was moved to base game in the majapahit update
The only two DLCs I do not have are Conquest of Paradise and Rule Britannia and don’t feel a need to get them. I’ve also noticed a lot of DLCs start out more important than they later are. For example, in the past you needed Res Publica for national focus but now you don’t if I recall correctly.
The paradox dlc model is so awful because the game eventually gets balanced around the assumption that everyone has every dlc, so playing a new version without the accompanying dlc is just worse than playing the previous version
Tbh origins has actually saved a few of my European campaigns because of the new nobility privilege that gets rid of the annexed subjects debuff. Making diplo games or games where I have a lot of vassals more bearable
I completely agree with you about Dharma. As a new player, I couldn't understand why the game wouldn't let me upgrade my trade centres when I was getting pop-ups telling me that I could. Got Dharma for that reason alone.

Thanks for pointing out the patch was the big problem because I didn't get the DLC and everything went to hell. Haven't played EU4 since and am just now considering revisiting it. Not with DLCs though, I haven't bought a Paradox product since Leviathan. Your video just popped up and I clicked. Still mad, because breaking the game through a patch is arguably worse. As is generalizing your customers as toxic when they got upset. I was threatened with a ban on the Paradox forums for saying "It is probably less the devs and more out of touch incompetent suits who force deadlines." "Incompetent" was apparently too severe of an insult.

1:41 I guess in the two years since this video was made that is one of the few basic things the DLCs have added that was added to the base game(having picked up the base game I have come to learn why I see people trashing on ALL the games(incorrectly I WILL say) that Paradox publishes) because all I have is the base and I can lower autonomy. I can't drill but boy can I get bonuses to doing it from ideas!
OH! The liberation crap that's in the game, or whatever it's called when you ask someone to support your independence! I want to play as Norway and don't want to have to cheese the game or outright cheat to become independent without waiting years and years, and you CAN'T declare an Independence War while your parent country is at war(also STUPID, that's how MANY countries got their independence, not to mention just smart)
How exactly did you get all the DLCs for $17 on Humble Bundle? The EU4 Ultimate Bundle that has everything costs €390 and I seriously doubt they would discount it 96% ...
I think he does not mean the EU4 Ultimate Bundle. For example, I bought a Humble Europa Universalis IV Bundle two years ago for $17.01, and it had all DLCs up to that point. Actually, it is probably the same bundle he bought.
There were a few things that I noticed were wrong with this video: Lowering autonomy is in the base game. Policies are in the base game. The government reform system is in the base game. There may be reforms for specific countries that are in a dlc, but I am not aware of any. Papal interactions and the papal influence mechanics are in the base game. Bulls and the curia treasury mechanics are not. Changing culture is in the base game. I really do enjoy your videos, but please put more research into things like this purchasing guide.
There is a high chance what he said was true on release, but they made changes based on feedback later on. Just people tend to remember things from release and once they have them they won't notice the change.
I have been watching eu4 videos on RU-vid the entire pandemic, but only bought the game and some dlc with a huge discount on ciber Monday last week. Don't have the hang of it yet though

I am recently new to eu4 and I instantly loved this game. I got eu4 off epic games for free. However all dlcs seem expensive. Any discounts anywhere anytime soon?
Isnt that the usual way? Games being released in a "pretty much broken state" (lack of testing) and then being fixed over half-a-year by either patches from the devs OR MODS from the community. Since PDX dont want to kill the goose that is laying golden eggs they are doing it themselves.
I live in turkey so i can buy all 18 of the dlc and the base game around 35$ because steam can't even catch our inflation and raise the prices but 35$ is like 600 liras rn and the minimum wage is 4.5k turkish liras lol
The worst part is how alienating it is to anyone trying to get into the game. I bought the base version alone (because I wanted to test it before I sank hundreds of dollars into DLC) and came to the conclusion it was a horrible game and not worth my time. Only recently have I discovered that it really isn’t as bad as it seemed but instead that the DLC is so critical that the game is completely dysfunctional alone
its common thing with Paradox Games. they release a sequel game which is totally dumbed down version of its predecessor. and they slowly add more mechanics and make the game better with 15 DLC's yes, if you bought base game its totally unplayable today. even paradox market "starter pack" on their steam page. base game with couple of crucial dlc's
yeaj. Art of War, Rights of Mans, Mandate of Heaven, Emperor, Cradle of Civilization and Dharman, that is a total of 47,94$ that I haven't yet. but of course, is very cheaper than that 200$ that paradox want to sell you in that packages
