its a simple rule when a gun is in a closed position you cant see whether the gun is loaded or empty so the safest option is to regard it as LOADED and handle it that way then you wont be surprised if it is and you wont have shot anybody in the process
any gun that you cant see is EMPTY is LOADED that's why when you take the gun out of the slip you take it out OPEN so that every one around you can see instantly it is EMPTY its not for your benefit its for theirs. Do not shoot at anything before the horn sounds When the horn sounds for the start of the drive that's when you load your gun. Do not swing through the line .Do not shoot at ground game. Do not shoot at low birds in any direction . don't take the next guns birds even if he keeps missing . When the horn sounds for the end of the drive unload your gun and place it in its slip and don't move off your peg until you can see the beaters. do not shoot at anything after the horn has sounded for the end off the drive. pick up your empty cartridge cases.
