Not going for modern, innovative nuclear solutions as much as possible while simultaneously strengthening regenerative energies was one of the stupidest decisions that they made. Ignoring the fact that the original nuclear sentiments in the 80's were blown out of proportion, nobody was arguing for 70-year-old reactor designs. Material science alone made so many discoveries, improvements over that time, that completely different solutions would be available, if there was only the will.

You forgot to mention that a great deal (if not most) of the parties in the Non-Inscrits group are right-wing or at least nationalist/socially conservative. There's AfD (🇩🇪), Fidesz and Mi Hazánk (🇭🇺), Konfederacja (🇵🇱), Smer and Republika (🇸🇰), Se Acabó la Fiesta (🇪🇦), etc. Whether they'll stay unaligned or eventually join a European group (ECR or ID) is up to guess, but in any case that's a larger part of the rightward shift that happened in these elections, which might not be so noticeable at first glance.

They probably did well not because of their policies but because of the fear of the far right, most of the public don't want things being turned upside down, which if too many of the far right got into power, it would probably do, most want stability and a better quality of life. Basically, the problem is with the far right is that a lot of their support is from protest voters that are angry at mainstream parties, their policies are not really that strong in many areas and it would be reckless to give them too much power without a fleshed out agenda on policies across the board. With that said, some of the far right parties have been given a chance of more power, if they mess that up with too many radical policies, they can quickly get wiped out by the voters on the next election or the one after, it's the reason why so many of the radical parties, tone down there policies as they get close or in power, they want to appeal to a wider voters base and radical policies rarely does that, and it's also why centre parties are so successful, they are more willing to compromise, to listen to more concerns across the political landscape and are more likely to be willing to work with other parties to get things done. In other words, the far right have got their chance, let's see how they do with real policies, because voters have given them a chance, but they won't wait long before they turn on them, especially if they mess up with some policies and because of that, I suspect many of them will tone things down to try and build on there success, just like many others across Europe have already done, basically, they've been given a taste of power, they'll be on edge now in not wanting to mess that up.

I feel like this election is pointless... People are not voting for the European Groups, most people have no idea of what the proposals are, people are just voting whoever they vote on a national level, so what we have is an average of the political spectrum of the whole European Union that actually went to the polls. We need real democracy... Case in point: Renew Europe in Spain is represented just by a nationalist vasque group and a political party (Ciudadanos) who basically originated in Cataluña, tried to go to the national elections, and miserably failed a few years later with 0 seats. I would have liked to vote but it was impossible to for me, since I moved to the Netherlands just after the registration to vote in another country closed and it is not straight forward to do. Yeah, usually the turnout in the EU election is half or just 1/3 of the national election turnout - which kind of brings out the most fanatical and involved voters that therefore skew the results differently from national results. In the EU election people also feel much less loyal to their national parties because less is at stake and many other parties might actually have a EU platform that speaks to voters more compared to where they stand in national policies. So people shift party or just focus on one issue more.
