The Eucharist Begins with the Manger 

I think Father Mike Schmidt said it best (paraphrasing). Basically he said, God loves you more than he loves Himself. Because of this, He became human and endured the cross leading to the glory of the Resurrection. Christus Natus Est! Alleluia! Alleluia! Deo Gratias! Alleluia! Alleluia!

I was an EMHC last night at the Christmas Eve mass, and as I got to my place I looked down into the ciborium and the image of House of Bread (Bethlehem), the manger, and the body of Christ just hit me powerfully and emotionally. I teared up and had to keep from crying. I also felt joyful. I think I felt the miracle of Christmas in the Eucharist. Pax et bonus.

My first communion is coming this Easter 2024 I can't wait ❤

The Holy Church gives us EVERYTHING we need for our Salvation: the sacraments, the teachings, the communion and prayers of the Saints, the Bible and above it all, the EUCARIST and a full knowledge of the person of Christ made freely accessible to all. So we are not alone on our path to salvation. Please, let us pray for the Church and for our priests.

Merry Christmas, Father Casey, and thank you for this Christmas message. On a day when we celebrate Jesus coming into this world, we stand in awe that he - an omnipotent being - came in the most vulnerable form possible, that of a helpless infant. Our festivities celebrate the beauty of this vulnerability, and yet our culture, outside the pageantry of Christmas, seems to revile fragility and vulnerability in other areas of life. This is seen in how dismissive we are about value of the unborn, or how we marginalize the elderly, sick, and those who are considered "collateral damage" in war. On this Christmas day, let us remember to show as much reverence for all those who are small, helpless and in need as much as we show to a sculpture of the baby Jesus.

I love that everyone is talking about this this year! My favorite tie in is that the manger is a food trough for animals, and in the bread of life discourse in John 6 the verb Jesus uses (in the original Greek) is the animal version of eat. To me it is so clear that transubstantion is deeply underpinned throughout the New Testament, from start to finish.

Merry Christmas, Father! I just came from Eucharistic Adoration this evening, still remembering the beautiful Mass this morning. I can fully confirm what you said. It is now a bit more than seven years that I go to Mass and to Adoration every day. I know how I was before (glad you don't know it), and I know that I learned a lot about all those important things you mentioned. Also, it is pure joy.

I've liked the Christmas communion song "The Table of Emmanuel" because it draws on the connection of Bethlehem (House of Bread), the manger, and Eucharist. Also, at Santa Cova in Manresa, there are mosaic panels around the church based on the meditations in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. The meditation on the Incarnation isn't a panel - it's the Eucharist (as the altar and tabernacle).

I went to midnight mass for the first time in decades. It was wonderful. It ran long, but the vigils usually do. It was so wonderful to take communion with both elements. I felt such a peace afterwards.

I wish you were at my church this morning or my pastor's sermon was recorded. He touched on what you said and tied the rite of preparation before Liturgy in the Byzantine Rite with this feast. It was a great sermon and I think you would've liked it.

Don’t forget that Bethlehem means “House of Bread”. Add that to the manger imagery, mind blown.

Merry Christmas, Father Casey! After calling family members, listening to holiday music, watching an umteenth version of "A Christmas Carol" and enjoying a special meal, I really needed to "simmer down", be still and listen to your sermon and think about it. It's awesome that the Creator of everything became one of us in a most humble way. As time goes by, I'm becoming more aware of God's presence in my life and receive the Eucharist with more love. Merry Christmas. A Seventh Day Adventist told me that the swaddling cloths Jesus was wrapped in is like the cloth used to wrap a dead person. That Jesus was most likely born in a cave under a house, carved in to the rock much like a tomb. Wrapped in the clothes of a dead man. That is a rabbit hole that gets pretty deep pretty quickly.

When I was growing up only the priest gave communion and our Church was always full and sometimes all the seats were taken and you had to stand in the back of the Church. Now I go to Church that is half empty and there are Eucharistic ministers assisting. It's as if everything is about keeping the Mass as short as possible.

Amen! 10,000 x amen! Jesus came into the world to be more like us so that we could be more like him.

There's another little fact often overlooked in the fact that the manger was in Bethlehem. Jesus said, `I am the bread of life.' He was placed in a feeding trough, and where was this feeding trough. It was in a place called `Bethlehem,’ which means, `House of bread.’ Beautifully said about becoming Christ through His real presence in the Eucharist, so that we can say along with St. Paul - ' It is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me.'

I have never had reason to turn to God, but I believe in its importance. Faith gives purpose to life and overall, we need a reason for being here.

Wonderful video Father, well put. Side not, I have heard an interesting interpretation before, that of the two options, the manger may have been better than the inn. The manger was probably well kept, and had water for the animals. The inn though, we know was very crowded. I like that idea. God didn't just accept a place among the animals, but rather He made a place for himself among the stablekeepers, and shepherds.

Eucharist begins in the manger and glorified itself in the cross on mount calvary and it glorifies us when we give the outmost respect and love he deserves love you lord
