Chaetopelma olivaceum or the European Tarantula is a large Theraphosid spider which inhabits various habitats around the Mediterranean Sea. This video shows diffrent habitats of this spider on the island of Cyprus. Both males and females are shown as well as other interesting species inhabiting the same habitat.

Chaetopelma olivaceum lives in Cyprus,Turkey,Greece,Middle east,Egypt.

I'm ashamed to admit that I did not know Europe has indigenous tarantulas. They look a bit bland, but are well-proportioned. Cute.

However Cyprus comprises one of the 27 members of the European Union,it's still not exactly a European country. Cyprus geographically is an Asian country located in the Middle East. Cyprus intersects the African and Asian plateau in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, so you won't find "European tarantulas" in Cyprus.

@@Panagoulis1974 yes it’s mainly a « middle east tarantula ». Very commun is Israel and Lebanon if I’m right

I really hope one day they become more popular in the pet trade as being from Europe myself I love the idea of keeping a somewhat European species and i also am a fan of old world heavy webbing species

Did you get it from an online seller or do you live in Cyprus, I've been desperately trying to find a place that sells them but it's difficult as the seem to be less known compared to mainstream species

The remains of the millipedes seemed to be of adult ones , but in fact I haven’t seen small ones . Maybe these stay more hidden

Very interesting video and places I would like to visit, but my favorite species are the Theridiidae. I am a stone turner too and I ask the author of the video if during his research he happened to meet the Middle Eastern Steatoda paykulliana. It is a spider that I dream of observing and it different from the Western European species because on the opistosome of the adult females there are very clearly visible orange-red herringbone patterns while those I find here in Italy are completely black with a only barely visible red band. .Thank you

@@katerinabairak4463 My sling showed up dead. I unwrapped it from the paper towel it came in and it cartwheeled into the enclosure I had set up for it. I was very sad and angry.
