That's a tough one. I'm 38 but had older parents who introduced me to "oldies" so I tend to relate the music to my parents... I'll never forget Bye Bye Love or Wake Up Little Suzy, they remind me of my Mom
I'm a 77 year old retired lorry driver. I must admit to shedding a tear or two when first of all Warren Zevon died, then Phil Everly and finally Don. It's tough to imagine them all gone. Margaret Everly, the boys mother lived for an amazing 102 years.
I went from Rock chick with a love for screaming guitars to the Everly Brothers. I fell in love with the harmonies..... My friends though I was on Drugs...... Or maybe Drinking. Nope I said... Just switched on my ears 😁💙💙
I was about 10 when the Everly’s became huge! Maybe 8 or 9 when I heard them on the radio! Love at first sound! They had it all! Thanks for showcasing them! Clean cut and just nice! When Phil joined Cliff Richard I knew it was magical! ❤🎉. Their harmonies touched us! 😊
We love them so much! I am from the Netherlands, this lovely brothers, with there fantastic songs, have been in the house. Now I am living since a long time in Germany and I have them still in the house! Very sympatic! Wonderful music!
I loved their music, it was smooth and dreamy . Dream- and Bye Bye Love, and all the others. It's so sad that being famous brings so many to lives of problem relationships and addictions.
I was lucky to see them in Birmingham's NEC,in the early Nineties,I was ten rows from the front, they took my breath away with their Voices and Pure talent,I will never forget!!!!!!☺️🇬🇧
The Everly Brothers are my favorite Musicians and singers from the early days of Rock n Roll. I Loved their harmonies and their songs. I saw them perform at the Albert Hall on TV when they decided to do a come back. Although Phil was a heavy smoker, he was still right on key singing the harmonies with Don during that Tour. Still one of my favorites!
Bye Bye love so good I can still hear it we couldn't wait for more songs. We used to watch them on American Bandstand and many more entertainers, oh back in the old days
They need to make a biopic about them. Billy Bob Thornton should write the screenplay and star in the biopic as Don and Phil’s father, Ike and Diane Lane as Don and Phil’s mother, Margaret.
It's seems to be an old, recurring story we hear where some talented artist(s) from a working class background gets chewed up and spat out by the music business 'machine'. Some of them do not survive, tragically. Some are never the same again. Success seems to carry a heavy price for them - but never for the business men making the money off of their talent.
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.” ~ Hunter S. Thompson
The Everly Bros were great-,,their vocal harmonies were a big influence on artists from the Beatles to the Hollies,(who were not only big fans of the Everlys but worked with them in the 60s on their album "Two Yanks in England)and earned praise,so it has been said, from Chuck Berry Auckland New Zealand lockdown 2021
I went to school with Don Jr. at SLO. I met Don Sr.. what an amazing man! Mark Draper was Jr's freshman roomate on the 1st floor of our dorm. Bobby Hatrield Jr. gave me rides home to Laguna from SLO and sometimes we would hang out in Newport Beach with his family!
The Everly Bros. were the inspiration for the Warren Zevon classic "Werewolves of London." At the time, Warren was the Everly's bandleader and Waddy Wachtel was the guitarist in that band. One of the brothers suggested that Warren write a dance song called "Do the Werewolf." Zevon mentioned the project when Waddy stopped by his hotel room and Waddy said "You mean...Awooo?" WZ answered in the affirmative and the rest is history. From being seen with a Chinese menu to the seducing of "little old ladies" to perfect hair...Lon Chaney and Lon Chaney, jr. were Phil and Don. Draw blood.
A lot of groups or family in show business have split up over the years :) It was just not the Everly Brothers :) God Rest The Everly Brothers you are both truly missed....
From all I have ever read about them, Phil was the more stable emotional and one of Don's children stated, after Phil died, that he had been the glue that held the family together.
When I went through basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot March 1967 Recruit Platoon 149, the DI S told us that the Everly Brothers went through basic training and they were their DI S. The Everly Brothers were in the Marine Corps Reserve. The DI S also told us they had Doris Day's son for basic training. Marines who went through basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina always called us San Diego basic training as Hollywood Marines.
@@sharonrodriguez9592 He certainly was. Listen to "I Hope You Always Drive A Cadillac", too. It's one of the ones released after the reunion. Don sings lead, but the chorus is out of sight. They never do it during a concert because it's too long (over 5 minutes) and it really pushes Phil to the limit. But it's neat. Have you ever heard him sing backup on "On Top of the World"? I don't remember the full name of the guy who sings it, but his first name is Rene and he refers to himself as "Mr Rock n Roll". Last is "Words In Your Eyes", an early solo by Phil.
So Sad was a song by the Everly brothers but not their version. The superior version is by Dillard and Clark. Gene Clark sings it as it was meant to be heard: a tragedy of good love gone bad. A great song as performed by Clark (one of the original members of the Byrds). He sang it as a sad ballad, the way the Everly's should have recorded it originally. The lyrics are brilliant!!! A fave of mine...👍♐
Hearing the story of the Everly Brothers, it occurred to me that this song, So Sad, actually applies to the brother's themselves. It was their love for each other that went bad, and it was so sad.
@@piedmonster22 But that's not Jerry at the drums this time. Buddy Holly wrote "Words Of Love" for the Everleys but he didn't pick it up. The Beatles did a superb cover of that though.
@@piedmonster22 As well as Sonny Curtis, who played in buddy's first band, on guitar. Since J.I.'s passing he's the last remaining tie to the Crickets.
No money should be given to anyone here for anything insha Allah. I ask Allah to protect us & give us safe travel including airplanes. Go live your life don’t stay home. Stop using mental illnesses as excuse to harm normal people.
The Everly Brothers was the most disappointing concert I ever attended. After 2 support acts they finally came on and performed just six songs. They were on stage for barely half an hour.
when did you see them? they have probably done thousands of concerts by then. nearly all classic musicians only do short concerts now like bob dylan. 30 minutes is good enough especially since most of their songs are short anyways. i would just be happy that i got to see such great people before it would’ve been too late.
@@NashvilleSkyline1969 In Perth, Western Australia June 1971. Just a few months earlier they performed live on Australian Bandstand for an hour, and they were fantastic.
