The song my father let me see on you Tube a few years ago when i was very Depressed and hè said these words to me, now iam out of it and iam happier than i was before after 6 yaers 🙏🏼 i must cry when i hear this song.....my father passed away 6 march 2024 ✨️💖and i miss him so much😢....he was my my rock!
Your father chose wisely. For the moment and for musical excellence. I'm playing his work for my young kids as well and they like it. A wonderful way to remember your dad.
My heart split in two when I heard Chet Atkins died. Part of me was just destroyed. I called my brother (also fingerstyle picker) and tried to not cry. I’ll always miss him.
My first celebrity crushes were Don and Phil back in the late 50’s. To me they will always be the fresh faced young men who charmed me with All I Have To Do Is Dream. Rest In Peace.
Chet Atkins would have turned 100 years today 20 June 2024. Salute you sir, what a true legend. I am 60 years old and enjoy listening from down south in Africa. One word of advise, be grateful if you are happy within you skin. Discovered him way too late in my life.
Mark has zero ego. You would never guess he wrote this masterpiece and his original version is over 8 minutes long. He just enjoys the company of fellow musicians and appreciates each one's talent: you can see it in his face. The Everly Brothers influenced his own music and he and Chet were close friends. Wonderful video.
We don't have to oversell Knopfler. He is a fabulous artist and does subordinate his play in service to the song, but he is a human being, just like the rest of us. Also, you need to have some ego to be healthy; you just want balance. From what I see, he has a love of music that has no bounds and has dedicated his life to it. He is amazing to watch as he practices his craft and reveals it to an audience...
Mark Knopfler looks at Chet Atkins like a kid would look at Santa. The admiration and appreciation is obvious. Even though Knopfler has carved out his own niche in the music world, it's still humbling and nice to see such respect for one of his icons and guitar heroes. A beautiful song made even more so by the vocal brilliance of the Everly brothers, Mark wrote it but the EBs took it a level higher.
Chet Atkins, the maestro, Mark who wrote this beautiful song and plays beautifully with Chet, and the most wonderful duo ever, the Everly Brothers. I shall always remember this.
The finesse of Chet Atkins playing , Mark perfect accompaniment, McDonald sweet piano and the Everly Brothers harmony vocals , all very humble pure enjoyment that’s what You call Greatness✨💫🌟✌🏻
Just watch Chet's face, if the number one Certified Guitar Player was happy, it was all going just as it should, and it's for sure that everyone on stage for that session won themselves a place in musical history over and above their previous triumphs.
My dad loved this show and would watch it repeatedly on videotape. He said the same thing about Chet's face more than thirty years ago. He said you could see the pride in Chet's face as they were playing this song.
Great version of this song by the brothers, you can see how much it means to Knopfler playing this song with them. They will be sadly missed by everybody. This song really suits their vocals.
@@Kerpieanne I have the greatest respect for Chet, and maybe Mark Knopfler too, but Don and Phil will pull just about anything together. Long as they're not hitting each other with guitars.
Ahhhhhh it definitely is a masterpiece, no doubt. But it does get better, of course there is the greatest, Stairway, but go listen to Ten Years Gone, or listen to the greatest female voice ever, Judith Durham. Now that I've taken the Micky, in all honesty, to say it doesn't get better, or to use the term greatest is pure bullshit, music isn't a competition, it isn't a ranking, it's very personal and subjective. Let's leave it at the opening, this is a masterpiece.
I can't count how many times I meant to UP Arrow a video and accidentally hit the DOWN because my fat phone slipped from my hand in the process. And you can't fix it!
Chet the master, Mark the next generation. What a wonderful collaboration! Add the Everly voices and Michael McDonald keyboard...Nirvana. Saw this live and had on VHS. So excited to find on u-tube to enjoy again. So much talent and a beautiful song!
Chet, Mark, Phil & Don. I'm speechless, it's only a gigantic Wow!! You might even think that this ballad was written especially for the Everly Brothers. It's wonderful to see the complicity of these four together. Sad too to realize that there is only one left among us. Thanks for this magic moment gentlemen.
I have listened to the Everly Bros.for years and this song by Mark Knopfler is such a great tribute to them. God rest their harmonious souls and also Chet Atkins "The Country Gentleman"
Knopfler actually wrote the song with the brothers in mind. The original version is on Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms album. Mark and Chet were great friends and collaborated on a bunch of projects. This one was definitely special.
The Brothers were at loggerheads with each other but kept it professional at performances. Mark and Chet gave each other a knowing look. The magic was working. Don and Phil turned to each other, and in that look said, "I love you brother". Mark and Chet, in that moment smiled at each other knowingly, for a moment, the rift was gone. Pure alchemy, pure gold.
Everly Brothers and Dire Straits are a formidable classic combination of voise and guitar. Lightning Express by Everly Bros made me cry as a young boy and still brings tears even today since my mother passed on. Words hit a raw nerve inside that’s never healed
Perfect harmony.... Today the heavens welcomed another angel and the Everly Brothers are together again.... Rest in Paradise!! Your music will live forever in our hearts and memories.....
This could have been written for the Everly Brothers - their harmonies take a beautiful song to new heights. I love to watch the interactions. These are musicians enjoying being together and doing what they do best.
That's what makes the everly brothers the most beautiful harmonic duo to ever grace this planet. I'm glad they're both back together as the everly brother while they rest for eternity
@@heatherkelly2580 No. It was written for the Dire Straits album Brothers In Arms. Mark had The Everly Brothers in mind when he wrote it but it wasn't written for them. If you want a song that *was* written for them, try, On The Wings Of A Nightingale, written by Paul McCartney.
@@CB-xr1eg Not surprising to hear it was written with them in mind. In addition to McCartney, I should think many musicians have been influenced by the Everly Brothers over the years. Simon and Garfunkel were at one time called 'Tom and Jerry' and based their harmonies on trying to sound like them. They went on to create their own distinctive sound, but the Everly-inspired harmonies were always there.
I have just seen the most natural harmony ever 2 brothers singing and playing even after everything 1 of them went thru alcoholism drug addiction he was still very good they r legendary musicians no doubt about that .and as for the song if u don't get the message I it u ain't human..God bless them beautifull song
Biggest gems in the music industry..brightest stars of several generations, coming together to perform this masterpiece..how lucky are we to watch and listen..moments like these are once in a lifetime, it is that good...it is that good!
True to say Mark is a genius so unassuming and sweet, the three other men are so sadly missed I listen to this song with these treasures every week or so my most favourite song and this is the best I have ever heard. Miss you guys no one can beat you - the saddest thing in life is us having to leave, so very sad.
I saw the Everly Brothers back in the 60's here in Johannesburg. What a show, what talent, most of all, what harmonies. One of the best shows I have witnessed.
Wow, this is such a beautiful song, sung by two of the most beautiful voices. I watch this when I am worried and stressed and it helps me relax. Thank you Don and Phil. You left us with some beautiful music.
The Everly Brothers make me feel as if every song was really written just for them to sing... everything they do turns to beauty. I knew as soon as I saw who was performing this it would be sublime...
I have listened to this so many times. Love every wonderful moment. How about Mark Knopfler smiling? Those people in the audience were treated to such a great performance by some epic musicians.
Maravillosa canción interpretada por muchos de los grandes. Dan ganas de llorar viendo la complicidad que tienen entre ellos y como disfruta su creador Mark Knopfler 🥹🥹
Mark isn't an interloper on this song because he actually wrote the song. The original version is on the 1985 Brothers in Arms album by Dire Straits and runs for eight and a half minutes. Knopfler gladly let them record it because they influenced his own music.
Excellent. What a fantastic performance. I was very impressed by your performance. Everly Brothers harmony voice is beau-ty. I`m happy to share this video. Bless you. From Japan.
Loads of talent in this clip. So multigenerational but a great song is a great song, sung by the masters of harmony the Everlys. Their talent as well as Chets is sorely missed. RIP
Gotta agree with you on this. Mark Knopfler's main talent is obviously not his singing, so to have the best harmonising brothers in the world do your song, well, that's an honour. It knocks spots off the original Dire Straits version (I think even he'd admit that)
In 1958 when the Everly's released All I Have to do is Dream, I thought it was one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard••••• and I was only 10 years old. I didn't even know what you called it then but I somehow recognized at the age of 10-- as a non-musician-- that their voices melded together like no others. I can't believe at the time of this recording that you're listening to, that those two Brothers still had the ability to harmonize in such a beautiful weaving together of their voices. They still had it! Despite all the years of discord between the two of them. As an old man of 75, it almost seems like they are a Channel for Beauty coming from somewhere on high.
Having worked with Mark when I played pro Keyboards in the early 1990’s I can confirm he is the most genuine down to earth superstar musician you will ever meet … it’s all about the music not about egos.
