@@Randomyoutuber-4831 that's fair, however Futurama was a lot higher budget and due to that, better qualified writers. I don't know much about this show, but it doesn't seem to have a lot of money in it.
Same guy who voices Toucan Sam in the Fruit Loops commercials. I told my dad this after showing him the vid. He said he'd never look at Fruit Loops the same way again.
Ah, yes, Maurice LaMarche. We know him as: - the Brain, Squit, and the Godpigeon from the original Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, - Simion the Monkey from Dexter's Laboratory - Egon Spengler from The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters - Verminous Skumm from Captain Planet and the Planeteers. - Longhorn from Freakazoid! - Big Bob Pataki from Hey Arnold! - Father and Potty Mouth from Codename: Kids Next Door - Mister Freeze and Calendar Man from the Batman: Arkham series of games - Vincent Van Ghoul from Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated - Yosemite Sam from The Looney Tunes Show and subsequent Looney Tunes works - the English dub narrator of Pom Poko - Chancellor Neighsay from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Orson Welles in animated works featuring his likeness (he actually dubbed for Vincent D'Onofrio in Ed Wood)
There's just an extra layer of comedy in the simple fact that he is the Evil Midnight Bomber _What_ Bombs At Midnight. For some reason that one little colloquial detail of it being "what bombs at midnight" rather than "that bombs at midnight" just adds that special level of something that makes this guy stick in my head.
I think it's an old dialect thing from the 40's or 50's. Another example of "what" used like that is Taz from Looney Tunes going "What for you bury me in the cold, cold ground?".
Maurice LaMarche is an all around GREAT voice actor, but this is my favorite character he did because of the maniacal rambling, and that "hiiiiiiiiiiIIIH!!!" in the restroom, I giggled like a child the first time I saw this the first time it aired. This is my favorite episode of this whole series.
@@judgem0rt1s23 If you haven't seen this whole episode you really should. The Evil Midnight Bomber is only part of the comedy. The named Barry who thinks he's a superhero & also calls himself The Tick is pretty freakin' hilarious too, plus all the other minor characters banter is great. Like I said, this is my favorite episode of this cartoon series.
@@crimsondynamo615SO THEN HE SAYS TO ME YOU HARNESSED THE POWER AND I SAYS YEAH BABY!! I'M THE EVIL MIDNIGHT BOMBER WHAT BOMBS AT MIDNIGHT!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
It's even got a sick roof-mounted forced induction / cooling system to improve the performance without having to keep the hood propped open. Dude is a polymath.
Damn, I thought he was another opposite of The Tick because of his general mannerisms: His weird metaphors, constant rambling about what he's doing, how openly evil he is, his lack of reason to be evil, etc. I imagined they just reflected everything Tick did but replaced good with bad. But him being Arthur's opposite makes more sense, given that Arthur encountered and caught him, plus EMBWBAM was half of Barry's size like Arthur was with Tick
"An object at rest cannot be stopped!!!" God bless the animators from the original Tick series on FOX! The staff writers went to town on the bomber's lines and my 13 year old self thanks them for it! How cool was it to have the Monkees' Mickey Dolenz voice Arthur?! Oh yeah, fun fact, he voiced the twin henchmen in The BTAS episode "Two-Face Part 2" 😎
@@kadeshaderow Paulsen replaced Dolenz for Tick season 2. Paulsen also voiced the twin henchmen when they showed up in a movie. Total proof that Yakko Warner was never a Monkee.... he just replaced one twice.
@@tskmaster3837 The story according to Paulson is that he had already recorded all of Arthur's dialogue for season one when the decision was made to recast with Dolenz. When Dolenz didn't sign on for season two the producers went back to Paulson and asked him to return and he agreed under the condition that he wouldn't be replaced again if Dolenz changed his mind. Paulson has said that as much as it bugged him being replaced he couldn't fault the producers for going with Dolenz who Paulson is a big fan of (plus he'd already been paid for the work done. ..).
I rewatched and laughed at a bunch of stuff, recently. Particularly the episode where he gets clobbered into orbit by a Hulk-Clown, and spends the whole episode roaming around his subconscious, in a coma My favorite parts were Tick getting the opportunity to ask a question to an all knowing obelisk (giant stone statue of his head sticking out of the ground) and he asks, "Uh....how ya doin?" * giant 👍 comes out of the ground * _"Neat!"_ and him wrestling a giant monster worm that stops in the middle of the fight to be like, "You should date more," and I was like, _"Oh my crap, he's wrestling with his libido, inside of his own head!"_
I made this guy as a low-tier villain in a mutants and masterminds game. Like, he was super low PL but he still almost killed the party because they bumblefucked around for a long time.
I see this was part of the inspiration for Overwatch's Junkrat, as well as his line "I’m the evil Australian bomber what bombs at whatever time he damn well pleases. "
This had 3 seasons, but you'll never find the last one on DVD. There was some scriptwriter who didn't sign on and they had to pretty much delete all the eps he wrote. That's also why the Galactus episode from season 2 isn't on DVD. He wrote like 8 episodes for season 3.
Look, I'm not saying that Venture Bros. is bad. I just don't especially care for the implication that it succeeded in ways that The Tick would have but couldn't, and The Tick is fantastic as-is.
I like how that explosion scene kind of implies that his explosives were only strong enough to take down some thin corrugated metal walls in the cheap Sidekick building. The three inside were mostly surprised and barely singed. Cartoon physics sure, but doubt anything better buildt would have been in danger. Much respect for Intent in the plan and the apprehension!
Both wrong! It's my man, Mr. Monkee himself Mickey Dolenz going to town in a dual role as both Arthur and....THE EVIL MIDNIGHT BOMBER WHAT BOMBS AT MIDNIGHT! Just listen carefully to the bathroom conversation between them. Even in slow tones, you can hear bits of Mickey's natural voice shine through...🇵🇷🇺🇸🤣
You know, I remember when "Villainous" was first being advertised, they were roasting a lot of the villains in other Cartoon Network shows. I know CN doesn't own "the Tick," but I almost want to see a fan work of Black Hat checking The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight out. Think about it: He doesn't make many of the usual villain mistakes: He doesn't trap a hero then monologue his entire plan to him. He doesn't make his plan overly convoluted. He doesn't try going for something beyond his reach (well, some heroes like the Tick would be tougher than others and probably impossible to kill, but he'd have still wiped out a chunk of people in the business). Even outing himself to Arthur was more acceptable because: A. He knew he was probably caught anyway, and had to act fast. B. He's nuts. The only real goof I see is that he tried planting his bombs inside the club, but as the sidekicks survived the shed's explosion, it seems that model only blue toward a certain direction. Finally, he actually made a guy quit the business. Granted it was a sidekick, but even that's more than most villains ever achieve. Personally, I think the Villainous cast would enjoy watching him work...though they probably wouldn't give him anything too dangerous for their own safety.
@@micharosa6201 He’s monologuing going the entire time he’s onscreen. And instead of catching a hero, he gets caught in the act by Arthur and continues monologuing and giving away his plan. Chairface Chippendale got further in his plan to write his name on the moon.
I love that someone, in their infinite wisdom, actually made a _MegaZeux_ game about this guy. It's not very in-character, but it's a very cute game that's fun to play!
I like this guy.....I like how motivated he is to be the most evil midnight bomber what bombs at midnight....forget he talks to himself....that's just a footnote to his scheme
I love cartoonish villains, the fact that he has such an overly long name that he says all the time and that he compulsively narrates to himself about how evil he is. I need to watch this show.
One of the most vital skills for life is being able to laugh at one's own ridiculousness. It's a constant of the human experience, it just varies in its presentation.
Junkrat: Who are You supposed to be? Midnight Bomber: Why, I'm basically You, But SO HE SAYS TO ME, BAD IS GOOD BABY, YEAH, BABY! I AM THE EVIL MIDNIGHT BOMBER WHAT BOMBS AT MIDNIGHT! YEAH BABY, YOW! Junkrat: ... Y'know... I think I'm starting to like this guy. YOW!
This was my least favorite episode as a kid. My mom claimed it was an episode more focused on the adult audience of the show. Wouldn't you know, this is one of my favorites by far now 😂
I was sat here wondering "why do I know this character and that line" then a thousand memories of "The Tick" flooded into my mind from far back in my childhood. Great show.
So a little backstory: Maurice LaMarche was actually friends with Sam Kinison (both were fixtures of the LA stand up comedy scene in the 80s) and had been trying to convince Sam to give VO a shot shortly before his untimely passing. As such, the Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight's voice is a tribute to what could have been.
I wanted for SO LONG a video of just these bits of The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs At Midnight but lacked the source and skills to make it happen, so THANK YOU, made my day :'D
His plan was serviceable. If he had just checked the bathroom to see if anyone was in it before he started planting bombs and kept his mouth shut, he likely would have succeeded. This is also a really good parable of prejudice. The first person to notice what was really going on was Arthur. But people wouldn't take him seriously because he was a Sidekick. The people who ended up paying the price for the bombers actions were the sidekicks, not his intended targets.
The shack was The Sidekick Lounge. The guy in the mask was absolutely silent the whole episode until he just says "I quit" at the end, the dog and the ape basically spent their time being cynical and threatening Arthur for being human@@markpenrice6253
I love how his car looks vaguely grenade-shaped, with the green coloring and the roof rail running down the back into what looks like a mounted ventilation unit.
I like how he's such a clearly insane and unhinged individual, with a diabolical plan to blow up a club full of superheroes. But he still wears his seatbelt in his car.
