Jaclyn waited WAY too long to launch Jaclyn Cosmetics. She could have been one of the first RU-vidrs to really come out with their own brand, but instead she got so caught up in Morphe that she completely missed her prime. By the time she caught up, the market was already way too saturated and people were already starting to distrust her. She really should have launched when she peaked after Champagne Pop and the first Jaclyn Hill palette. Edited for spelling 🙄
Aggred! She been teasing it to long and it was at the hight of everybody’s expectations and it fell hecka short! She could have been way better than any brand out!
@@l.l274 yes!!! the vault was her downfall imo. she had problems with previous launches but this was the first time that people REALLY started speaking out and talking about it. I think it was when people really started to not trust her
I totally agree. There’s absolutely no need for comments like that-they’re just mean. Criticize her actions if you think she’s done wrong, not the way she looks.
@@staciecremeans1350 yes exactly. She also said she gained weight due to becoming an alcoholic as a result of some hard stuff she has went through. So the jokes aren’t funny
Absolutely. She’s made hurtful, questionable, and manipulative decisions which definitely should be criticized. However, her weight has no affect on us and it’s quite disgusting to see people joking about it. She needs to be held accountable for the things she’s done, and when we comment on her weight we are giving her a scapegoat. She can come back and act like it’s our fault if she causes damage and/or doesn’t want to apologize because now, we’re the bad guys who’ve bullied her. She’s demonstrated her tendency to shift the blame. If we ever want her to truly take responsibility for her actions, we need to avoid irrelevant and inappropriate criticisms. Not only because weight-related comments are just abhorrent, but because she’ll use them to avoid addressing the real problem.
Criticize how she handled her lipstick scandal, or her just selling stuff Leave her looks out of it Her face reminder me of how mine looked when I was on medicine and very sick. Idc if it's filler, drinking, medicine, it's not fair or right to be judgemental on her looks.
jaclyn hill seems like she was born to be in some mlm lmao she's really convincing but at the same time she keeps it casual so you dont notice a friendly chat is basically a sale pitch
Unpopular opinion: Morphe should have taken way more responsibility for the vault. Jaclyn is an influencer who collaborated with them, not an owner. She isn’t responsible for quality control issues. Morphe did her dirty and let her take the blame for their shady business practices.
Those botched launches convinced me to never buy any Morphe products, it’s been years and I’m still not interested in giving them a chance. When they launched they reminded me of those coastal scents palettes everyone was crazy for in the proper OG beauty RU-vid world.
I agree! The influencer collaborating with a brand is only really there to decide the colours, layout, and design. They dont really have any say in anything else. Thank you for speaking on it
Jaclyn is messy and you can say it’s all Morphe’s fault, yet you see Jaclyn’s same response in her own cosmetics line!! Jackyn and Linda are hand in hand in being manipulative.
@@me_shell we can place the core of the blame on the actual brand, not collaborator, whether it be Morphe, Becca or Jaclyn cosmetics. Collaborating influencers don't have control over the decisions the company makes. Jaclyn certainly has issues with her own brand and all that blame should be all on her. Morphe threw her under the bus, making her explain things like reusing pallets or pallets coding. That stuff should have come from the brand.
I feel like Michelle Phan would be really fun for this series. I feel like she’s one of the OG beauty channels, and especially with how much her content has changed and is now no longer is really on RU-vid anymore, would be really fun to explore.
You will open a ton of Pandora box of drama when it's comes to Michelle Phan, fun to read but if you were a fan of her like me back then you will be saddened by how dishonest almost everything was Plus Em Cosmetics isn't her first beauty brand, folks who have watched her back then would know
I think a lot of people, including myself see the old Jaclyn as a representation of a bygone era of beauty RU-vid. Watching her progression from doing beauty and makeup because she loved it, to her doing it purely for business aligns pretty much exactly to what happened to the beauty space on youtube. It's sad to see. I think now people are becoming tired of the insincerity and we are starting to see another shift in beauty RU-vid--one that leans towards realistic beauty advice and honest communication, and it's a change that I can't see Jaclyn being comfortable with.
Yeah, I’ve been on RU-vid since 2008, and I remember when beauty videos were just of girls sitting in their bedrooms talking about their hauls, or chit chatted about their purses, and the tutorials were done in such a way that made viewers felt that they were hanging out with a girlfriend, rather than watching a video that’s very slick and professional looking. I don’t know how to describe it...there was this kind of wholesomeness to it. Edit to add: not saying that it was better back then or anything like that (I don’t miss the blurry vids! Lol). It was just that the atmosphere was different than now.
I've been watching RU-vid since it was 2 months old. I remember the day I saw a makeup video for the first time and at first thought huh that's weird, she filmed herself doing her makeup... But then I became addicted as the years progressed. There's been a direct correlation between the amount of beauty videos I watch and the growth of my collection. I used to have a makeup bags worth of makeup, and now somehow I have 6 drawers full, it happened so gradually over 10 years . It's been interesting to see how the beauty RU-vid community has evolved and with it, the entire cosmetic industry- and not for the better. It went from educational how tos and community to just blatant consumerism. By the time we realized it, we all had spent way too much money and had way too much makeup, more than anyone could possibly use. And these youtubers had made millions by lying to us early on gushing about products that they were being paid to talk about - and we had no idea in the early days because there was literally no regulation or consumer protection, influencer advertising was so new. On top of that, we had to learn of all the behind the scenes ugliness that has arisen because of competitiveness, ego, narcissism, greed. It's no longer about the skill and technique and information of makeup, it's just salespeople selling us stuff. We are now at a point where Some of the biggest beauty gurus aren't even that good at doing makeup especially on others!! How did this happen? I miss the early days.
I hate the way they have all made it into a shill fest. Jessica Braun has turned into a total sell out. What doesn’t she sell?🙄 They stop being believable when they keep doing sponsored stuff. 🤮
to put it simply, jaclyn is NOT cut out to be a CEO. the pr major in me cringed so hard at her response to the lipsticks! i even did a case analysis on it for my crisis communication class bc it bothered me so much 😂
C C 🤣🤣 Definitely a topic worth exploring further since there is a lot to analyze and critique. JH is a hot mess. A PR nightmare. How not to do business. 😂
There’s something to be said about people crucifying women over men in the beauty community. To my knowledge, Jaclyn hasn’t had such a long standing history of disgusting behavior like Jeffree. His launches also face similar problems to Jaclyn’s. Yet Jaclyn gets crucified and Jeffree stays okay. How does this keep happening? Keep the same energy y’all.
I'm finding a lot of people that get "cancelled" are women People LOVE punishing women, but let men get away with a lot of buffoonery Pay attention to the way the media frames scandals done by women, versus scandals done by men You'll see the difference and I feel like most people aren't even aware
Don’t be all white feminist about this. They’re both awful. People just always KNEW Jeff was awful for the most part, so it’s not as impactful when he’s trash. Jaclyn has a squeaky clean image that slowly deteriorated.
@@sarab3417 I don’t see what white feminism has anything to do with this, my comment merely pointed out a discrepancy with the treatment. I agree with you that both parties are awful, and I can also say James Charles despite having a “squeaky clean image” isn’t receiving the same level of bullying and criticism as Jaclyn, despite Charles being a predator to at least one minor that we know of. James even admitted to it, but he still doesn’t have the same level of hate that Jaclyn gets. Again, I’m not defending anyone, merely saying that the community should keep the same energy, perhaps even increase the energy to known predators with patterns of behavior. I don’t appreciate that concept being demeaned with “shut up white feminist” rhetoric, I don’t get where that came from.
@@CrustyUgg I totally see that first point, JS opened the door with his asshole personality while Jaclyn has a history of delusional lying. My main point is directed towards the level of intensity directed towards women than men in the industry. I mean, men like JS and JC in the community have patterns of behavior even admitting to abusing people, but they don’t receive the same level of vitriol that JH receives. I thought it was interesting to point out. However, this is just my view, and I agree with you that the beauty community is populated with more female influencers than male influencers, and in terms of how much criticism women in general receive isn’t well comparable to that of men because of the population difference overall. That’s a good point.
Makeup isn’t made/produced in “labs”. Makeup is produced in factories. Saying “the lab” isn’t accurate. I grew up in a town where lipstick and perfume were produced and I knew people who worked in the cosmetic factories. Development of the product is done in a lab and mass production happens in a factory.
That an interesting distinction, thank you!!! Super interesting, I’ll definitely remember it when watching future videos about the idea-to-reality makeup process and manufacturing.
I logically knew this but had never thought to make the distinction, either! I wonder if people say “lab” to sound more official/make it sound like an item is less mass-produced than it is, so as to make the customer feel as if the item was made specifically for them. Thanks for pointing this out!
good point! also as a scientist myself who works in a lab, I knew right away she was lying about the fibers from gloves. I don't believe any lab would EVER touch lipsticks with fabric gloves, we only wear nitrile gloves (or special gloves depending on the chemical). Even if the lab was crappy, if you've taken a single chemistry or bio course you know to wear nitrile gloves! Basically even if she claims quality control was done in a lab, no it didn't.
It's funny.. I knew this fact myself and didn't know anything about makeup production. I'm no genius lol but it seems common sense to me that a lab is where a product would be created and tested and the factory is where it would be produced/replicated in the masses, boxed and shipped once, once the creation of the product is perfected in the lab.
Does anyone remember that painful Kim K collab? I think her personality thrives better on its own (on camera) than with another person which may be why she often avoided collabs.
I felt bad for Jaclyn after this video. Everyone was judging her for being starstruck. People expect her to treat Kim like any news anchor and people forgot that she was just girl from Florida with no background in interviews.
Lol although in her defence, all the collabs I’ve seen with Kim are cringey because Kim just really doesn’t give you anything but face so everyone with her seems to feel like they have to make up for her lack of personality 🤣🤣
@@trinzy3000 I was waiting for someone to say this. I don't care for Jaclyn, but I will say; Kim is beautiful, just like Kylee buuut what they have in beauty, they lack in personality! They are so bland. Jaclyn seems like a very talkative person. That video was cringe, but it was Jaclyn's first collab with a big celebrity per se.
As someone who watched the beauty community from the very inception in 07-08, People keep accrediting Jaclyn hill for the first mainstream collab but it was actually Michelle Phan with sephora and then Làncome back in 2010 and 2011. I wish ppl would stop giving her this credit. Yes she had the first MAJOR collab but it was NOT the first collab in general.. Michelle Phan was also the first beauty guru who started the modeling intros with music. She is the one who needs to be credited for the editing styles. She was before her time and adding creativity to her tutorials by adding back drops, voiceovers, skits and using high quality camera equipment, whereas everyone else wasn’t. 20-23 year olds keep talking about the new generation being the first and they weren’t. It’s understandable that you all don’t know this because most of the new viewers were in grade school when the beauty community was first forming. The Patrick Starr and manny MUA and jaclyn Hill etc. (because they joined as the community peaked) were NOT the first generation. It drives me bonkers when ppl say this, totally erasing the actual First generation who fought to make their content worth being paid for and made sponsorships possible and other paid content possible.
I never liked Michelle Phan, but her being a spokesperson for Lancome was a huge deal, especially back then when it was unprecedented. I would agree that Patrick Starr, Manny, Jaclyn, Laura Lee etc. weren't the first beauty gurus (originals were back in 2008-2011), but I at least would consider them the first modern beauty influencer. They've had more exposure and opportunities that didn't exist back in the early 2010s.
Thank you! Seems like so many people think they've been here since the beginning of youtube, but there was clearly an entire YT makeup generation before this current one. In my old person mind, jaclyn hill is still one of the new people 😂
Enjoyed the video! Just wanted to correct some things here as someone in the beauty industry who also arose at this time: Patrick Star, LauraLee, etc are not “First Gen” Beauty Gurus, The “First Gen” Makeup Beauty Gurus are Michelle Phan, JuicyStar07, AndreasChoice, JLovesMac01, Jacqueline Hill, Jackie Aina - Formerly Known As LilPumpkinPie, Nicole Guerro, Kandee Johnson, ItsJudyTime, DulceCandy, BubsBeauty... the list goes on, but certainly NOT the former... PStar, LauraLee, etc would be considered the “New Generation” of Beauty Guru. Also, the Makeup/Beauty Guru “Boom” was in the year 2012-2016... that was when the industry was solidifying and gaining real steam as a viable career path. What we see now is not the “Boom” of Makeup/Beauty Gurus, it is the Manifestation of the second generation of Makeup Gurus going after the career path created by the “First Generation” with specific intentions to monetize it for financial gain through any means necessary, and most times through intentional controversy. It’s important to correct this information because you have such an informative series here that I feel like it should be accurate for anyone wishing to use it for reference. 2012-2016 was the “Golden Age” for us original beauty gurus. Right now is the continuation of the career path that many of us helped to build. XOXO!! ❤️❤️
I used to love Jaclyn, she’s the reason why I bought a clairsonic (waste of money). I think she’s a nice girl but she’s more of a sales woman. That’s okay, get your bag. She could sell air, she’s that good. But she lies way too much, her creditably is gone to me. Her authenticity is gone. I don’t believe anything she says. Edit: I understand making money is important but you don’t need to be a liar and ruin your reputation and authenticity in order to make money. You screw yourself over in the end because no one trust you, example: Jaclyn
Watching this and then watching Maggie Mae Fish’s video, I can’t help but agree. I think there’s a lot of stuff to critique about the way she portrays herself as a “heroine of the American dream”. She does the same things as her scammer of a father.
Jaclyn grew up with a salesman, she watched her dad talk people into anything and everything (including hundreds of thousands of dollars of their money, “allegedly”), and when you grow up watching your parent selling whatever it is to their people, you will pick up those same traits, whether you want to or not. When I found out her father was a pastor, it was a “ah ha” moment to me. There were things that she said and did that reminded me of a pastor I knew in my younger years in the church. .. You ever watch a pastor speak to his people? Their energetic, lively, say all the words they know people will believe n hold onto, their loud in the voice, loud with their body & hand gestures, smiling, selling you this happiness. And when your sitting on that pew, when your clapping, dancing, singing along, when your feeling all that your pastor is saying to you, when you feel lifted up by your pastors words, that is when the collection plates/baskets come out. And at that point your happy, your in the trance, you are wanting to help your church, your pastor, so you are gonna give as much as you can, your gonna buy those cookies and pies even if you don’t eat sweets, all for your pastor/church. ... Jaclyn has run her RU-vid Channel the same way. Go back to her old videos, watch her body movements, watch her mannerisms, see her energy, listen to the words she uses to sell you on that product, she is a salesperson to the fullest and knew how to get people to follow and get people to buy. I believe that what she picked up all those years of watching her father in the church (where he was able to take so easily from his people), helped her build her channel, helped her talk to her followers, helped her to sell whatever it was to her people, and she succeeded greatly by doing so. Like Smokey Glow said, “she talked so good about this product in 2014 it made me want to go and buy it”, and I I have felt that same way. 10 people could tell you about the same product, yet there’s something about Jaclyn, about the way she really goes in and makes you feel like you cannot live without this product, that you cannot go out in the world unless you have this product on your face, she is that good, she learned from an early age and has mastered it to the fullest. .. You did a great job on this video, love your channel and content.
Wow I've never made that connection, probably because I haven't been into organized religion that way , but this is a great comparison and probably very true .
now that you say that my mind is blown, i dont listen to her talk much but seeing clips of her talking a bit in dramam vids yes shes using those same movements! Thats so interesting, great catch.
I don't watch Jacqueline Hill, so I couldn't speak on the comparison, but I did keep imagining Jim Jones as I listened to Hannah and watched the video clips🤷🏼♀️ Hannah should have pinned this comment.
I'm black as well, but pat needs to fix her brand. buying from her is not a luxury experience, it's ghetto, customer service is trash and I just can't with her. I don't even think her eyeshadows are that great. They're just okay. I love her lipsticks, I have 11 of them. But I can longer deal with her company. Too trashy. She really needs to work on that, or just be done. Retire. She's a billionaire any way.
@@meshiawriter I only have her quad and 6 pan pallets. And I heard the quality of the mothership pallets are better. Pat has sales pretty often. Get it when it’s 30% off.
@@meshiawriter Ok, I've got an update. I purchased the Mothership IX, Huetopian Dream on her Memorial Day sale. When I replied to you earlier I didn't have it. But it came in the mail today. Maaaan, listen. The thing weighs at least a half pound. The packaging---best I've ever seen. Now the mattes are the same quality as the quad I have, but those dang special shades....Girl! They're freaking nice. I can see the hype. Get one on sale when they are 89 bucks, it'll be the best 89 you've spend on makeup. Facts! She should have a sale close to the fourth of July so keep an eye out. And it didn't take a month for me to get. Her customer service is vastly improving. Also, I think her foundation is comparable to the La Mer foundation. So you can get it for $47 when its on sale. La Mer is $135. So, there's that. Why pay more when you can get the same quality for less. I had bought the wrong shade of my La Mer so I sent it back, but I plan on re-coping that.
I mention this a lot, but it bugs me for some reason calling manny mua “first gen” first gen to me is literally Michelle Phan and Zoella, I’ve been watching since 2008 lol
Jaclyn is the reason I don't buy from Morphe, or from influencers raving about it. Like Ti from nappyheadedjojoba would say 'Never trust somebody with a Morphe code' 0.o
Something not a lot of people talk about is the lies about the Jaclyn Hill Volume 2 palette. She said in her reveal video that it was the same formula about as the original Jaclyn Hill morphe palette. It's not. The original palette was vegan, the second palette isn't. Carmine is listed on the ingredients list on the website but not on the packaging. And I've seen some drama channels talk about it, how the formula is different and it's just the regular morphe formula. But truly, not nearly as many people bought the second palette to really see the issues with it. I used to be a die hard jaclyn fan where I valued her recommendations and her opinion on products and brands, but after I never got refunded for the lipsticks i bought from her brand, I gave up.
I don't care about Jaclyn Hill, but these "evolution" videos are really interesting. It's interesting to see how RU-vid channels change and grow over time.
stop apologizing when your videos are too long and start apologizing when they are too short 😂 i could watch/listen to u for hours! i’m an adjunct college professor in Sociology Dept and your social analysis , research and presentations really intrigue me
Fun fact: I loved OG Jaclyn and shortly after she made that appearance at the Sigma store in MOA, I was there and asked out of curiosity how it went and the employees said she was so different when people weren’t around and how she was actually really rude. I was shocked by that and almost didn’t believe it at first, but as time has progressed, I have been able to believe it more.
I feel like that would be pretty brief. She enjoyed a calm fairly unproblemtic existence until she sided with a racist one day, started clout chasing, jumped into some uneccesary high school style drama, then went silent for the most part. The end.
You were waaaaay too nice with her! I cannot let go of the fact that she sold expired -most likely- lipsticks! and then blamed us, the consumers. for making a big deal out of it
unpopular opinion: i got one of the vault palettes when they first came out, i had no idea who tf jaclyn hill was but i saw this yellow shade in one of them that i absolutely adored. i got the paletted, love it, and still do to this day... who knew it was in a huge controversy like this lmfao was i living under a rock
huh it would be interesting to see an evolution or analysis of tati westbrook expecially because she has such a long history. it wouldbe interesting to see how she compares to other gurus from that time
i really used to love her videos and trust her opinion. but sometimes i feel like i can’t like her anymore because everyone thinks she’s crazy or dumb after bye sister... idk
Yes! I lived Tati, I loved her versatility regarding drugstore and high end products. She always put so much work into her reviews, and was always on top of new releases! I think she was genuinely happy and excited playing with new makeup, but her down tall was hanging out with Jefree and James.
Jaclyn was the master of "planting the seed." She loved Becca Opal sooo much and then lo and behold, Champagne Pop was born. That seemed to happen a lot of times with Jaclyn.
So spot on! When she posted that eyelash bullshit video I was like watch Morphe be coming out with a damn mascara and whatya know?!? She is so transparent it’s comical
@@rawsteph4114 girl yes! And she has raves about that shitty Lancôme shiny setting powder and what was her first launch for Jaclyn cosmetics?! A damn dupe for that absolute peche by Lancôme. All she does is create dupes of things iconic and smarter brands have done. She has zero originality
I worked at ulta during the vault collection launch. We got the palettes initially and were told to not put them out yet, and we never recieved any new ones! They just sat in the backroom💀
Or when you see a picture of people standing together with no masks on and your mediate reaction is "uh where are the masks??" only to realize the picture was taken like 3 years ago or something
That was fascinating to watch. My husband kept coming in and saying, “Is she still talking about that bad launch?” and I was like, “No, this is a different bad launch!” 🤣🙈
I think we as consumers had so much faith and excitement in her launches was because it felt like we could finally get makeup launches from someone "like us" who loves makeup and wants the same things we do. It felt like beauty companies were so removed from us and content creator collaborations were a bridge to future of makeup. Obviously, that's not how it works but back in the day it really felt like nothing could go wrong if these fun people we trusted were at the helm of these launches.
You should totally do a "The Evolution of.." with Zoella or British RU-vid like Alfie, Marcus, Tanya, Jim, Joe, etc.. I think it would be really interesting since Zoe and British RU-vid was such a staple in 2015
"These videos are too long" Hannah I would be happy to sit through a 2-hour video and that's no lie. You do so much research and put so much work into these it's honestly amazing and so much fun to listen to
I’d love to see an Evolution of James Charles or an Evolution of NikkieTutorials (even though I don’t think there’s much to talk about because she’s always been so chill)
I think he is quite new to bc comparing to others to create "evolution" episode on him. On The other hand he was involved more in drama than other OG infurncers
I feel like Michelle Phan would be really fun for this series. I feel like she’s one of the OG beauty channels, and especially with how much her content has changed and is now no longer is really on RU-vid anymore, would be really fun to explore.
Woof, coming back and watching this and hearing about how she went through a divorce hits really hard knowing that Jon unfortunately passed away. I really feel for Jaclyn because despite her issues, I don't find her to be evil. She's a good person deep down. And I can only imagine the heartbreak of losing someone that was such a big part of your life. She married Jon at 19, so she practically grew up with him. And she said even after they divorced, they were still good friends. Just goes to show that addiction is a disease and I hope Jaclyn is healing from the trauma of losing Jon

the amount of research that goes into these videos is astounding and inspiring. i’m wringing an essay for my women’s study class on morphe as a cultural product and it’s successes and failures as one of the main brands that became popular from using beauty youtubers, i will certainly be using this as a source! thank you so much for making genuinely interesting content

I actively just got into watching after alllll the hoopla and her personality is extremely infectious lols. I was watching her Amazon videos and I legit wanted to buy Everything in her video 😂. She def has an amazing camera presence, its a shame her credibility is kinda shot.
I agree with that. I enjoy watching her. I just won't buy anything she makes because of her credibility issue. If she would of addressed it and explained it that would be different. I mean even if she said I wasn't involved like I should of been and hired people I thought were capable and that's my fault I don't think the anger would of been so hot. That's what I believed happened and I got angry watching her tell me her quality control team was so involved that white fuzzies were flying everywhere but they never noticed the quality control issue. I still laugh when I watch her though and I think her camera presence saved her afterwards.
JH’s is a smart sales woman but she makes up such ridiculous lies and they’re not even good, she really thought morphe depotted 100s of thousands of eyeshadows and repotted them and that’s why some of the packaging had different batch codes was a good lie I-

I'm so glad you mentioned juicystar! I feel like her and her sister always get left out of the OG makeup gurus convince and I loved them! I feel like they got did really dirty in the beauty community. They basically got shunned for taking sponsorships when that's just the norm these days.
The beauty community has been around since I was watching at the age of 14 and that was in 2010. Elle and Blair, Kandee Johnson, Michelle Phan who was honestly one of the very first, Petrilude, DulceCandy, ItsJudyTime, xSparkage, MakeupbyTifffanyD.... I can go on
I think it's worth noting that they're also at the top of the beauty INDUSTRY in general even if women have been the "face" of the industry. **Edited to add that it's exclusively white men.
I honestly really dislike Jaclyn Hill. I feel like she isn’t relatable at all and doesn’t have any interest in being relatable. I’ve felt like this for a really long time. She comes off like she wants to be a superstar and it’s annoying to me. With that being said, I don’t leave any hate on her social media or videos. I just don’t purchase any item that is tied to her and don’t give her my view, regardless of the content. I think if she humbled herself a little, people would be more receptive to her. But again, it doesn’t seem like she has any interest in it. Just my opinion.
It seems like the more money she makes, the more she tries to be relatable & the less it works...if that makes sense?? Lol Like she'd say something along the lines of "don't you just hate it when your lipstick opens up in your Birkin bag??" (just a made up example) The more stuff she gets, the more oblivious she is to the fact not everyone has things like that. She flaunts expensive designer things & acts like everyone is the same, I guess is what I'm trying to say?? She thinks she's being relatable to *everyone*, but in reality she's only relatable to other rich people.
She most definitely needs that humble pie. She is a mean girl who got a following for some reason. She should have been cancelled for good when the lipsticks happen and then she lied oh wow she lied up down left and right about what happen. I think shes a very mean person for sure behind the camera.
I don’t know if it’s just because I’m British but I’ve never understood the Jaclyn Hill effect. I’ve always thought she was really over the top and kind of fake. 🙈🤭
I think maybe she felt like "the dramatic best friend" for a lot of people. Another way it could be described is "childlike excitement" over everything, which can come off as very endearing.
@@staceyjohnson8814 I still have mine too and I use it every time I do my makeup lol and I still haven’t hot pan on 95% of it. I can’t speak on the rest of that collection but the face palette really was worth it, credit goes to Becca for that though lol
The only good thing about those hairy lipsticks was how much rawbeautykristys channel finally blew up after she put those nasty things under a microscope! ❤️
Jeffree Star is SLOWLY but SURELY becoming the male version of Jaclyn Hill. Prove me wrong. Oh but with JEFFREE STAR it's totally acceptable to do nothing but push your brand and never do any makeup looks WITH YOUR BRAND. Got it.
She really is sooooo good at selling. The first Jaclyn video I ever saw was her holiday highlighter release. Had I ever used highlighter before? No. Did I order one of her highlighters and the brush? Absolutely.
Your observation about the lack of influencer collabs is really interesting as it provides additional context to her recent tweets about lack of support from fellow beauty channels only for the response from her peers, most notably Jackie Aina to be that Jacklyn has a poor track record of supporting other creators ‘s channels and their business endeavours.
I haven't gotten to that part in the video yet.. Maybe she just means in terms of what we currently consider beauty influencers. All those you mentioned were earlier, also Michelle Phan, I wouldn't put in the same category. The vibe is just so incredibly different since back then.
Yes , Blaire was one of the first people I watched along with xsparkage, I was pregnant at the time and binged watched makeup videos. Also there was someone else. It was like her user name started with "pan" I think and ended in "89".
This video is soooo well done. You know your content, you’ve done your research, I can tell you’re genuinely interested in the content, you know how to tell a story, your visuals are on point, your cute lil sidebars are funny and relevant, and you’re all around just the best to watch and listen to. Thank you for putting together this quality content. ( I’m Corny I know but it’s truuuueee).
Jacklyn did know how to do makeup and teach it on a technical level. I remember her false eyelashes tutorial from 2013 i think. It was a game changer for me. I think getting twisted up with Morphe, greed and waiting out her divorce to launch her makeup line took her down a path she cannot ever come back from. I still have Sigma brushes she recommended 7yrs ago. They are quality.
I feel the same way about Laura. I didn’t enjoy her much before her scandal. I don’t subscribe, but now will watch when it pops up in my recommended, and have been pleasantly surprised that I’m enjoying it!
I might be one of the only ones, but I have been watching youtube for over a decade and have never watched, nor wanted to watch, a Jaclyn Hill video. Something about her just never interested me and since people started pointing out a long time ago that most of her videos revolve around Morphe I got completely turned off from her content.
Jaclyn always gave me that "annoying girl in high school who would show up late with Starbucks but would talk super fast and get herself out of a detention and after a while everyone just gave her a pass" energy. I know that's a little specific, but that's the vibe. I kind of get the draw of Jaclyn, because those kind of girls always had friends, but not anyone I'm interested in watching.
This was a really great video. You did forget the controversy that happened when morphe changed the packaging and the formula of her first palette and now it's no longer vegan. I remember a lot of people were upset about that.
i literally never watch beauty youtube nor did i know of jaclyn hill before lipstickgate but I loooove the way you're talking about all kinds of topics!!!
I have bullet lipsticks that I have had for a couple of years and have been well loved and yet they don't look anywhere near as disgusting as those Jaclyn lipsticks! I'm pretty sure they were made with zero quality control and then left for a few years to get then in that condition.
