My personal ode to Joan Crawford. I included 4 seconds from every film I could get my hands on, minus cameo appearances and television performances. 64 films in total, ranging from 1926 to 1970. Update: A more complete version of this video can be found here • The Films of Joan Craw...

I love Joan Crawford. Not an original statement perhaps but a fact. I don't care at all about her personal life but I do care about what I see up there on the screen, and that only matters for me. She was a huge star, a great personality and beauty. She endured because she knew how to change with the times. Thanks for this tribute to one of the greatest stars of the American screen.

Joan Crawford had something very unique. Her eyes were so, so extraordinarily expressive... They spoke many languages... I guess it was not any easy to male actors to have a scene with her. She seemed always so much clever and domineering....With exception of Gable, they should feel a lot intimitaded!! She was always so self-confident .... amazing! Besides, she had an irresistible sex appeal. So sensual, so attractive, especially in those movies of the 30's .

You forgot the Night Gallery pilot,1969,when she played a blind, super rich woman who got her eyesight for a few hours...the episode was called "eyes", and Joan's performance was excellent!

This is wonderful. It may be a cliche to say we don't have movie stars anymore, but it's true. Everyone is so drab and you don't see the huge evolution of style and taste and culture that you see in these clips. Women like Crawford knew how to adapt themselves exhaustively for each new era. It's a time capsule. I especially loved that Ice Follies clip, or as she called it, "trash."

That is in my opinion the greatest body of work ever put on film. She had consistently great movies, in genres she understood perfectly how to interpret, and change flawlessly with the decades. Rain-my alltime favorite Possessed-'31 i think best she ever looked Possessed '47- her best performance Grand Hotel- greatest classic she made Mildred Pierce- iconic, and influential masterpiece of Noir Esther Costello, Sudden Fear, and Female/Beach- do it for me best video ever made, thanks shane!

One of the greatest glamour stars from the golden days of Hollywood. Was she a great actress? Maybe, maybe not, but you can't deny that she owned that camera when it was on her. Like Gloria Swanson, she had that intensiity you couldn't ignore. Of course, both of them were to use their faces during the silent era. Bette Davis had her own way of owning the camera, too, but with Joan, it was riveting. We have great actresses today, but not true stars - not like Joan, or Lana, or Katherine, etc....

Great video! I like to see her evolution from the flapper girl from the twenties, the working girl with social ambition in the thirties, the lady of the melodrama in the forties, her tougher side in the film noir from the fifties and her terror movies from the sixties.

I'm sorry, I totally disagree with "4720d". I think the music that you chose is PERFECT- not only for the montage, but also for the subject herself, Joan Crawford. Perhaps more than almost anyone else, JC embodied the relentless drive and ambition that it takes to jump into the shark pool that is Hollywood and then claw your way to the top, and this song captures that emotion. I understood right away why you selected the song, and it was an inspired choice. Great job!

@CarlD2 I agree. Putting on a dress & fawning over paparazzi on a red carpet doesn't make you a Star. Joan & her ilk had presence. Today's lot are a watered down, pitiful lot.

In makeup looks a thinner eyebrow makes a face look more mature or "older" and a thicker eyebrow makes a face look younger. It makes sense that she wanted to look more mature as a young woman and younger as an older woman hence her eyebrow style choice.

I saw scenes of "Mommie Dearest" and I wish I wasn't confused. Was she the abusive adoptive mother she was seen in the movie, or was she a kind and proud actress most people see her as? I wish I knew what was the truth.

Just remember that it was a MOVIE. That movie was based on a book by one of her children. At least two of Joan's other children, a former husband, and lots of friends said it was all lies.
