The Fashionistas are meant to be "affordable" - I'm just happy that they shirts aren't painted like they were for a while and they're back to real clothing, although I do wish they would release outfits for the dolls like they used to with Fashion Avenue instead of force you to buy a whole new doll with a body type that potentially doesn't fit the clothing you already own. The line is not perfect, I still think the 90s dolls were better, but it is an improvement over simple tulle skirts and painted on bodices

It’s nice to know the fashionista dolls always had tacky fashion and it’s not something Mattel started doing recently, granted the older fashionistas did look like the fashion pieces were better quality as opposed to the current ones, I just wish Mattel stayed consistent with certain Barbie lines but just made them more diverse and more fashionable

I remember being obsessed with the Fashionistas line as a kid because they were the first Barbies I’d seen with WRIST ARTICULATION AND I WAS OBSESSED. MY CHILD SELF THOUGHT THIS WAS THE PEAK OF INNOVATION. SAME WITH THE SWAPPING HEADS. My favorites were Girly and Cutie, I actually played with cutie so hard in fact that I broke her leg elastic.. My fathers solution was to super glue her legs in place .. I guess it worked but my girl couldn’t sit down anymore, just kneel 😭🤚

At least this time Mattel actually listened and did something about it when people complained about the Wheelchair not fitting into the 2020s dream home. That certiantly didn't happen in the 90s when there was Wheelchair Becky.

I was almost too old for dolls when Barbie appeared. My Jill dressed like my mother. Barbie dressed like my high school student neighbors and what we imagined college girls dressed like just before Jackie Kennedy became FLOTUS. Barbie appealed to each separate generation. I loved my 1950s dolls because they were a reflection of my generation. The fashionistas appeal to you for the same reason. Enjoy.

fashionistas are very affordable if your a doll collector. 2016 and 2019 was obviously the biggest years for barbie fashionistas. even being one of barbies most successful lines they still have not decided to add articulation which sucks heavy. i used rave about this line untill around 2020 when everything kinda got boring and gimmicky. the new fashionistas are really boring in clothing wise but we need to remember your paying the price🙂

They should’ve kept the articulation the 2009-early 2014 fashionistas had and kept them $14.99-16.99 if they would’ve gave us in 2016 when they gave us the 3 different body types it wouldve been a step forward

man, I was smiling so warmly by the end of this video. I'm so joyous that so many kids get to see themselves in Barbie now. I remember the first time I felt seen by a property I loved. I was in college. For these kids, it'll be before they're even 10 years old. Sometimes the world does get better.

I love that they currently have so much diversity, but I am continuously extremely annoyed with the lack of articulation for most of the fashionistas. The only one I currently own is one that came with a wheelchair, and I'm probably going to get another one soon. I like that the chairs resemble modern manual wheelchairs that people actually use. I'd love to see them make more dolls with different types of mobility aids. Yes all the other dolls are very affordable, but that's because they are cheaply made and Mattel doesn't want to spend the money on more articulation if they don't have to. I really don't want to encourage any dolls brands to keep making dolls with little articulation so I haven't bought any. I don't want a doll that can barely move, to me personally that defeats the whole point of a doll. If other adult collects can enjoy those dolls then I'm glad they can. I'm the most tempted to get one of the ones representing different disabilities, but even then my distaste for the articulation is still very strong. I really wish the ones with prosthetic legs had knee and elbow joints. The only other barbies I've bought as an adult is two of the barbie extras.

8:09 I've been asking myself that same question ("Did anyone win that contest?") for years about that "Doll for a Day" contest where if you bought so many items with the "Doll for a Day" sticker, you could get a Barbie doll that looked just like you. And I LOVED watching those animated Fashionistas shorts when I was younger! I'd watch them all the time! ("It was cancelled") THAT explains why there were scenes that were shown in the theme song sequence that were never shown in the episodes. Like the part of Sporty picking up a puppy gnawing on a high-heeled shoe and the parrots on Sassy weren't in any of the episodes. To conclude, Joey LOVES Raquelle but HATES Sporty. 16:02 At least it came with high heels.

Thank you for such a comprehensive video taking us through the entire evolution of the line. The downgrade of boring robot bodies and fashion (including even the fabrics) is a bit disappointing. Have rebodied a few for articulation … The facial realism is so good now, that works well. Wish we could have the diversity with the articulation and fun fashion aspect. I just got an artsy and find her a really phenomenal doll compared with the new ones. Love everything about her and am adding more to my collection from that era.

I think that many people tend to forget that today's world economic stability is not what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. We demand many things from Mattel but honestly it's difficult that the whole enterprise will change the massive production of their products just to fit whims of luxury. Sadly they have become cheap, fast and simple, for some this is good, some others want more but the reality is that Barbie hardly endures the change of times and we have to accept that things change and that if we want better clothing we can sew it ourselves 😊

I too like the dolls having names instead of numbers. I get it, the names would make them friends of Barbie instead of “the Barbie” - so every skin tone and body type are all equal. Fashionista was the one Barbie line I really got into. I bought all the dolls, all the single fashion packs, all the three fashion packs, etc. I stopped collecting after the first line with names, and only because of collecting Monster High and Integrity Toys Jem and the Holograms at the same time. Loved the packaging and shimmery back drops, the articulation, and even the fashions. 😂 Funny that Hottie Ken, Girly Barbie and Wild Barbie were replaced after the first wave. You might find it as interesting as I do, the new body types came out in 2016, almost one year after the Jem comic book was released with Jem, the Holograms, and Misfits having different body types. Very suspicious timing, especially with it being the 30th Anniversary of Jem and also Jem’s knock off Barbie and the Rockers. Guess Mattel was expecting Hasbro to release Jem dolls with different bodies for the comic, so they had to rush to be Hasbro to it.

I loved the Barbie Fashionistas when I was a kid. I’m with you on some of the clothes not being stylish, but i still love some of them 😂😅. Even though I was 6 when the Fashionistas got the quality downgrade, i hated the stiff bodies with a passion. But i did still Like some of the clothes. When the New wave with more diversity was released, i got into them even more. I Also Like the Millie mold, it’s really adorable and really youthful, but the GG sculpt is still my all-time fav. And it continued Like that for a few years until i started not Loving the clothes very much… the majority of them wore big baggy t-Shirt dresses and the Fashions were a bit plain… but some of them i did Like. Another problem i had with the Fashionistas was the variety of clothes lacking, very few of them, even in the early 2010s, had all similiar cuts and silhouettes… they were just wearing short dresses to thighs, which is fine but i like variety and each doll has a specific style, not many of them wore pants or sweaters, and it still remains to this day, but i understand it. I feel Like recently there has been a slight improvement on some fashion pieces, and i hope they will get better and better and then bloom like never Before! Here are my top 10 fav Fashionistas of all time (2010s): 10. Glam from in the Spotlight collection 9. Barbie from the clutch collection 8. Wild from the First wave 7. Sweetie in the Spotlight 6. Sporty With the hoodie 5. Sassy in the Spotlight 4. Teresa Clutch 3. Raquelle Clutch 2. Glam Wave 1 1. Sassy Wave 1 Top 10s (The unarticulated era) 10. The One With Braids 9. The original Barbie reference from this year 8. The one with the pink plaid Dress with the white frills and the black bow 7. The one with the purple gingham peek a boo stomach Dress 6. The one with the green hair and denim dungarees 5. The one with the patchwork denim dress that’s off the shoulders and wears an orange tie on the head 4. The one with the purple hair and a purple holographic dress 3. The one with the blue crimped hair and a rainbow tee. 2. The Shani that has a long sleeved marble dress 1. The Daya with the orange top and floral pants. I really enjoyed your video, and you never disappoint Joey, keep up the good work! 💝💝🎀

I personally prefer the fashionistas that came out 2015 and beyond, as they are the ones that got me into collecting dolls inbthe first place (the ones before 2015 but after the fashion fever line look tacky, save for the Nikki doll), but I wish they would include articulation and better fashion. More fashion packs and clothes for curvies would be highly appreciated. It's hard to find the earlier wave of fashionistas, so maybe sticking to say 15 different body and face sculpts and focus on articulation and the clothes would have been nice.

I might've asked this before, but do you keep your Barbie boxes? Do you put some dolls back in the box for display?

Lower quality dolls are quicker to manufacture, and that matters when there are so many coming out. Even Mattel can only produce dolls so fast. If they’d waited until the year with a bunch of different bodies to make this drop, it would be seen as “Mattel doesn’t think curvy/etc bodies deserve the same quality,” even if the drop was to enable them to produce to many types at once. So start a few years earlier, and you separate from drop from the diversity.

As a kid I had Cutie, Glamour, Girly from the first wave. Second wave i had, Sassy, Cutie and Sweetie. i had a couple with the swap-able head dolls, i never used that feature. my absolute favorite of all my dolls was the Raquelle one that you also have, i thought she was so beautiful,

Hey! I love your videos so much, you tube needs more doll content ❤ I’m sure you’ve got lots of content already in the works, but I’d love to see some videos on vintage dolls 😍 Blythes, Madam Alexander, Lonley Lisa, whimsie dolls ect. I’ve been collecting them for years, each one is so unique and different xx

My main issue with fahionista is lack of articulation what makes cheap clothes to look even cheaper.

Barbie should Always be Barbie! Barbie has a right to be herself..Magical,not realistic..doesnt look like me or anyone and Just Barbie!..glad i grew up in the 90s when Barbie thrived..and hey as for diversity Barbie and her friends always had something for everyone..from colour and style to occupation.
