EVERY Doll Reference In The Barbie Movie! 

I'm pretty sure there's an article somewhere where the hair and makeup artists talked about how they made Dua's mermaid wig look bad on purpose because the mermaid doll's hair is usually super bright and fake-looking. I know I read it a month or two ago. Also, Issa mentioned Greta asked her what she wanted her president barbie to wear, and she chose a ballgown. :) side note: i wish they would've had paul rudd on set to be the one shaving ken from the 70's.

I'm hoping for a bonus round of Margot Robbie's IRL outfits at the various premieres and red carpet thingies! I believe most (if not all) of her outfits at those recent things were references to Barbie!

That “ghost” Barbie hanging out with the other discontinue dolls is credited as “Proust Barbie” which was made up for the film. Will Ferrell makes a reference to her earlier in the film.

In the Barbie Mount Rushmore the Asian doll is specifically Oriental Barbie from 1980. Each doll face on the mountain is the first of it's kind, first Barbie ever, first black Barbie, first Asian Barbie, and the first Teresa doll.

The ghost looking doll in the background is Proust Barbie. The actress who portrays her is listed as Proust Barbie in the credits of the film.

In the first flashback, with the weird Barbie, it's evidently Totally Hair Barbie, she is the one that's being played too hard with!

I think the Weird Barbie is "Romantic Bride Barbie" from 1992. All the Barbies referenced in the Weird Barbie flash back date from between 1992 and 1994. She has bangs, platinum blonde hair, white earrings and nude pink lips. I can't find any others Barbie with these characteristics in the same period. In the film, it’s also mentioned that she was the most beautiful Barbie. A bride is considered to be the most beautiful. So. This is my theory. Thank you for this video! I know the comments are saying that the ghostly Barbie is the Proust Barbie that doesn’t actually exist, but that doesn’t mean she’s not referencing any Barbie fashions. The construction of the outfit is strikingly similar to The Heart Family “Mom and Baby” release - sharing the same square sailor collar and dropped waist.

During the dance/ disco scene, one of the dancers is wearing an outfit very similar to Fashion Queen Barbie. You can briefly see her behind wheelchair Barbie and when Midge is dancing. I would like to know who those dolls (the actual dolls) belonged to in the movie or if they were just dolls Mattel had lying around.

I thought the ghostly Barbie in the background was the Heart Family mom. Also, if there's a sequel, they could make a joke about Kelly/Shelly/Chelsea. Would also be funny to see color reveal represented somehow. 😅

My mom said she had a Peaches 'N Cream Barbie doll when she was a kid. I just realized that the flooring in the Dreamhouse at 7:22 has the iconic stylized letter "B"s all over it. It's interesting that in 2002, they had the "Mermaid Fantasy" Barbie dolls when "Barbie: Mermaidia" was released four years later. Almost like a precursor to the Mermaidia dolls. 16:56 Now that makes me wonder how many of the outfits that Ken wore during his fashion show for Barbie in "Toy Story 3" were based on outfits worn by actual Ken dolls.....? This is not necessarily a doll outfit reference, but a real-life Barbie reference in this movie is the fact that all the employees at Mattel are guys, and in real life, in the 1950s when Ruth Handler presented her idea of a grown-woman fashion doll, all the other people working at Mattel were men, and they initially disapproved of her doll idea.

fun fact: Allan is actually Midge's baby daddy. Which was part of the controversy because "Where's her ring?" So Barbie got ordained to marry them. Which it's weird that it's never brought up in the movie.

Wow! What a lot of work you did! I agree with most of your matches. I don't think the fuzzy Barbie in the background is the slumber party one, but maybe the second doll you showed us with the gauze-y rose pattern. I'm 70 and have grown up with a lot of these dolls so it was nice going down Memory Lane with you. I haven't seen the movie yet. I have a chronic illness which makes it a very poor choice to go to the cinema, so I have been waiting for it to come online. But the price is prohibitive! Thanks for all your hard work. Peaches and Cream & Crystal Barbie are CORE memories for me! I was so happy to see them in the movie. I got a holiday Barbie every year from 1994 till my grandma passed in 2012. I now get SO MUCH joy in letting my nieces come raid my holiday Barbie stash on Christmas!

It's nurse Barbie from the mid 20th century. (My mother, a nurse, had a nurse's uniform almost exactly like it.) Ken had a COORDINATING doctor's outfit. Both wore scrubs much, much later.

I adore your channel. I wish I had my barbies and sindys, from the 80’s. My first was pink and pretty barbie in 1981, I was so happy. I had a ton of barbie annuals and was a member of the barbie fan club (unless this is a fever dream), and used to get stuff through the post from it in zipped cardboard envelopes. I’ve lost it all due to many house moves. 😢
