crazy how we all just accepted an unfinished game when it first came out.. i know we were just all excited but damn they should have finished the game first
Personally it took me six years before I bought it. I read release info about it not having toddlers and pools and went, "Nope!" and just went back to playing The Sims 2. I didn't even have a clue how bad the base game was on release until the past couple of months, because I was not going to play a Sims game without toddlers after getting them in The Sims 2. I accepted it in The Sims, but it was still weird and they wanted to go back to that?
@@StoryGirl83 Same here, I took a look at the game at that time, and it just felt... empty. Beautiful, but empty. So I went back to playing The Sims 2, too. I get, that there are players, who do not want to deal with toddlers, but that is why we can age them up right away, or we can adopt children. That is no reason to leave them out of the game in my opinion.
@@Becclabee Totally. If someone doesn’t want to play them, they have ways around that, more than we had in TS2. For me though, it is my favorite age to play.

I really hope they have an update where people can walk and hold hands. Parents don’t walk with their children and hold their hands. Couples don’t hold hands. It doesn’t feel intimate.
Intimacy is missing a lot in the game. Like, I honestly hate that my married sims get embarrassed when walking in on each other in the bathroom, since at least in my household we're rather open with that sorta thing😂 i think there should be an option to toggle stuff like that
Would definitely prefer babies not being considered objects for family game play purposes. I just want my Sim to carry her baby around like an actual parent.
I don't plan to purchase sims 5 for probably the first 3 to 5 yrs after releasing due to bugs, and just waiting to see if it is actually worth it now that I have put hundreds of dollars into TS4
exactly! plus, I'm still happy playing games like the Sims 2, so I don't see why I won't be happy playing the Sims 4 well into the future. I've spent so much money on it that I basically refuse to move on. I'll play my families until the sim world ends
same. I JUST bought sims4 a week ago, and after watching this video I am so glad I waited. I'm a old time simmer and I go years without playing. I did just buy cottage, loft, and tiny living. So far loving it, but I am beyond dissapointed at the neighborhoods. I thougth the sims2 and 3 did a fantastic job on neighborhoods. The graphics didn't improve at all either.
@@byindi If the Sims 5 is out, I would probably buy Sims 4 and stick with it. It's like getting a new smartphone, why replace something that has more content and prolly does the same?
1. Make all kits free 2. Add story progression 3. Add wants and fears 4. Add an expansion that lets you actually edit towns/make towns with more lots All this, and I guarantee the simmers would be happy. I almost think the devs strategy is to keep the customers wanting more since days 1. It's just plain stupid to not add features that were previous games.
4 is probably way to much considering they still want the game to be smooth and playable for everyone, adding the ability to edit everything would overall make your game WAY slower and eventually unplayable for most
I had hoped that the sims 4 would have include the free world landscaping that the sims 3 had. I used to love sending my sims for a jog and scrolling from their view. You are absolutely right sims 4 is made for building houses.
i'd never really thought about the game being mostly tailored to builders, but I think that's so true. the gameplay aspects and even animation mechanics are just... bad. can you imagine any other video game where your character has to stand up to tell a secret, or stops running out of a burning building to walk leisurely down the stairs, only to panic again at the bottom? no one would accept that. it's all so jarringly unrealistic for a game that's meant to be a life simulator.
Why? There is gameplay now? It's a build/create a sim simulator, not a great life simulator: not many things you can interact with, nothing really wrong, bad can happen to your sims, it's a game for toddlers, when they think life is all wonderful and without problems: no murders, no thieves, easy to get promoted at work, easy to make friends and marry someone...yeah, a real life simulator... if you are born in a rich family and born handsome.
I’ve been playing the sims since the first sim city and stopped playing when the sims 3 came out, quarantine revived my interest in it, i started playing in April 2020 again and I’m honestly glad i missed the lack of co tent when this first dropped
you know what i want? sims 3 but with sims 4 graphics. and really, that SHOULD be a low bar. sims 3 came out in 2009. You CANNOT tell me technology magically went backwards in 2014. Only their budget did- but judging by how expensive packs are that should not be a problem.
I agree with you 100% with this,like I played the Sims 3 for years and years without adding any dlc, heck I ended up only getting 3 dlc for the Sims 3 and it was just hours if gameplay for me, but I feel with TS4 it needs DLC and mods for the hours of gameplay - like I also love the fact that you can play with any househpld without making it difficult whereas with TS3 it was more of a hassle going from one household to another 😩 (Sorry my only reference is TS3 I never player 1 or 2 for well...not knowing about the game until TS3 xD)
Thank you for making this post. I love your site and I love that you don't "kiss EA's azz". If they just went back and put all the AI from TS2 into TS4 I could be satisfied. All of the different compartments TS2 had that made sims "individuals" that actually affected how other sims reacted to them!
i guess it's a blessing, then, that i have 0 experience with the older sims games, so i just don't have any expectations. for the sake of all of the loyal simmers, though, i do hope y'all get what you wish for. i know open world is a contended topic, but cars and world editing seem really popular either way.
I honestly don’t understand why people want open world, world editing, and cars so badly. Ive watched sims for years and the if the sims 4 had all those features odds are it would be SO incredibly laggy, slow, choppy, and low quality that half the time it would definitely be unplayable for me and most times unplayable for other people-
@@vixenwaifu I can’t help but agree with you. I’ve experienced my fair share of open world games with high quality graphics and they’re all absolutely huge-in storage space and processing power. So, really, I believe people want those things because it’s already been given to them before. It’s easy to miss something that was taken away from you, but for a newer-ish player like me, I can’t miss what I never had.
Not everyone. There's those "if you buy, you kiss ea's ass" "game changers ( I forget the new name) must say all DLC is garbage or they're kissing EA's ass." Which I'd think would mean they're kissing the certain people in the community's ass to make them happy? Some spend a few days prior to a release saying don't buy the pack so we can show how disappointed "we" are. I swear every live stream, road map etc people have to pick something out to complain abou even if something "we" all demand is coming. The latest lol to me is how there's no November pack. It's never been official on the roadmap. Just a surprise the last 2 years but I guess now people want it though I bet a good 25% of them then would argue rushed so..... 🤷♀️ I just see a argument who has the right to talk about 4. Like hello it's been 7 years, STFU! Especially people who say because it's EA. But no such comments hinder on their freedom of speech but post how you like 4 and....yeah....
What I want in base game: 1. Sexualities. Now all sims are bisexual. It would be fun to have sexualities and the ability to ask a sim their sexuality, that way if for example your male sim asked a female their sexuality and she would say she's a lesbian, your sim won't be able to flirt with them, no matter how much you would try, their romantic relationship would go into minus. Now sims can flirt with ANY sim. 2. From sims 2 - preference. Who your sim finds attractive and who is not that attractive. This would make the game much more alive 3. Devs are working on it but traits should affect the gameplay more amd should be fixed. For example, non commital sim would randomly flirt with their coworkers when they are in work (sexualities would help a bunch, they would flirt with sims based off of their sexualities, not just with any gender). This is going to be my next point but I would love to add that if a sim with romantic or good trait would see a wedding going on in the park, sim proposing to other sim or asking to be bf/gf and the sim accepted, they would get happy moodlet for few hours, evil and unflirty sims could get a tense or angry moodlet for seeing that, for failed proposion or getting rejected for asking someone out, these sims would get a happy moodlet amd etc. 4. That townies would propose or ask out other townies. Sims world is so dead. If you are playing with your owm sims, the other townies will just grow and die out. None of them reproduce, date, get engaged and get married and it sucks that you have to do everything manually cus all of these families will just die out and you want a big a*s family tree.
In my game Judith Ward almost always marry someone, most of the time Marcus Flex, and have his baby. Nancy Landgraab usually gets pregnant with her husband also. Is that happening because some pack maybe? I don’t know, but i like that stuff like that happens. As a bisexual i kinda like that ALL Sims are too. But i’d like sexualities as well! Also attraction preference! Good ideas!
@@liascroll Thanks! And idk, maybe you have a mod for that? I had all the whole story planned in my head so I was playing with my sims, turned their aging off. When my story progressed and I moved one of my sims out of the house into apartment, I noticed how empty the apartments were, I went through every world and almost all lots were empty because townies had died from old ages, some of the premade children were old. Had to add sims from not in the world category into lots so that my world wouldn't be so dead, or make the old sims young, move in random sims and breed them in cas. I like long family trees. Love the history
@@theminegirl3775 i have gameplay mods so yeah maybe that is why the townies HAVE their own lives. But that makes me kinda sad though. They really should do all that stuff anyway. And that ghost town you experienced gives me the chills. I usually click the ”only aging active household” and then turn that off and on if i play like a legacy gp. And det to long lifespan. I’d hate to have a ghosttown too :)
@@theminegirl3775 MC Command Center can make townies have relationships, get married, have kids, move houses, etc. One time I was playing my legacy family and realised that Mortimer and Bella were divorced and Mortimer had married Katrina Caliente and they had a kid. Also, Alexander Goth (young adult now) was married to Olivia Kim-Lewis, at the same time he was dating *his stepsister* Nina Caliente and she was pregnant! Also Cassandra was dating Malcolm Landgraab.
Nah it's not enough lol all these packs and stuff being so expensive when half of it should be free updates, especially for system players who can't get mods

@@M0mmysteph I like trying to build houses and make sims with base game content only and I also really enjoy trying to play in different ways by doing challenges and stuff like that... Of course it limits things but I like that it pushes me to be extra creative and I end up having more fun than when I have packs installed
It only feels like a lot if you haven't played the Sims 3 and 2 before. Otherwise I don't get how the base game of 4 can feel like anything fulfilling at all.
@@12wer3wer9 the sims 2 was my first sims game and the sims 3 was my favorite one, I used to play them a lot... I guess I just don't compare ts4 to them as much and I'm also easy to please haha
TBF, people don't multitask well either. Studies have shown that people who believe they are good at multitasking are just good at switching rapidly between their task focus.
It's hard to say because we all have different play styles but sadly many people say "agree with me they ts4's BG is still shi$ or 4 must be your first Sims game." Do here's me who's played 1-3 and yeah there's issues, but also while people are like more family gameplay NOW! I'm like how about more science and technology gameplay that's not part of a career. Objects I can have Sims use at home. I said this and still got told we have all this, it's called Get to Work. 🤦♀️ We do have family gameplay, but if I tried to pull that claim off oof. Same with how Sims is such a sandbox game with so much they could add and millions of players. Can't just jump to they don't listen to us. There's more to say the community is part of the problem as well but it's how dare I say that so I won't continue to point out why. Though at this point I think people want a poverty based sims. So much like real life you have to ask did something happen IRL or in game. Idk about that route....
Basegame no dlc or cc is playable but I think they should’ve waited until the game was fully finished and included aspects from previous games. Probably would’ve made way more money but they want you to buy everything
Like honestly there are 3 ways people play builders, the CAS people and the ones that play with the families. Sure that can be overwhelming for a company or whatever but the Sims team is massive and it really feels like they cater to builders then the CAS people and the players are kind of just left behind as someone that doesn't have the money for the DLC no matter how much I love the game there's nothing for me to do as a player cuz I'm not that good at building and CAS doesn't hold my interest for long and I know I'm not the only one
I only really started playing around 2019 I think. I had bought the base game in 2015 but was utterly disappointed by not having an open world and not bring able to keep a copy of a Sims own written book. The neighborhood still had its blank unfinished look back then. Now I like the game a whole lot better.
I've never played The Sims until about 6 months ago. I only played The Sims Online way back when, and really loved it. I just wasn't interested in an offline version, of any game really. Well now, almost 2000 hours later in such a short time, it's the only thing I play. I can't compare 4 to other versions, but I can compare it to TSO, and what I miss terribly are things like flying hugs, slow dances, etc. Things that allow more physical interactions besides a quick kiss or hug. I'd love to be able to have my sims slow dance again! I know it's in a mod, and I tried it, but I'm annoyed how we need to have mods to get things we should have anyway. For some reason it feels "fake" if that makes sense.

It's a horrible pack honestly. Honestly, the whole game is fucking unplayable because of how buggy it is because EA is unwilling to go back and rewrite all their code. Just pirate the game to be honest - that's something that is worth the time and effort.
EA did well at improving the game. It’s too easy to become filthy rich by spamming Orchids, etc. Perhaps there could easy, medium and hard mode financially
I've been playing video games for almost 30 years, thus I can tell you from great experience that when the graphics looks really good, you can bet bottom dollar the gameplay and mechanics is absolute rubbish. Thus I'm scared of the Sims 5 launch. So for the Sims 4.... Gameplay = There's stuff all to do and extremely little variety. Mechanics = There's too many bugs that eventually you have to force your Sims to woohoo than letting them go about it full-autonomously.
I have played all Sims iterations. As an aging gamer I can tell you that the price you pay for the base game is extremely fair. Sims is a virtual dollhouse. You play with your dollies using your imagination to create stories and act them out. That is the whole basis of the game. It’s provides endless replayability because there is no endgame. Don’t like the way your story is turning out? Wipe it and start a new one. Please tell me a game that adds such replay value at that price point. People are getting far too demanding these days. Try playing games on the Atari 2600 and tell me how crappy Sims 4 is. Value is determined by experience in gameplay and Sims 4 base game is very well valued. And you can get it far cheaper throughout the year. It was dismal launch basically because it was meant to be a very different type of game at launch but to satisfy the community they scrapped its core gameplay (online) and released a hot mess. Since that time, they have basically needed to recreate the game from scratch which they didn’t need to do to keep the community happy. I think they have done far more than any other developer to try to appease a community with sub par PCs and consoles. I’m no EA shill by any means. I strongly dislike EA as a publisher and business model. And speaking of business, since it’s inception over 20 years ago the base business model of Sims has been packs add one for additional costs. In earlier iterations of the game the packs had more stuff on them because they were delivered on disks rather than dlc. They had to be good to get bought from a brick and mortar store to justify they money put into their purchase. DLC made it far easier to deliver content and reduced the need for being spectacular in order to get you to a store to buy it. So many complain about packs, stuff, and kits but no one is forcing you to buy it and it’s been Maxis/EA business model for the Sims/SimsCity from the get go. Your base game is far better today than it had been. And Maxis will make it better as it nears the end of it’s viable life. You got what you paid for. No, you got more than you paid for in most cases. Console users have a playable escapade dollhouse and pc users have a game with built in intentional mod support to take their base game to much higher possibilities. And Those that can afford to, have a variety of packs to enhance their game. Read the reviews, objectively look at the content and decide if it meets the criteria for your dollars. If not, skip. It’s really erroneous to say people buy crap just because it’s Sims. I’m fairly certain they put thought into their purchases. Just recently ran into your RU-vid channel and have been enjoying it. Even while I like building in 4, I can actually rebuild my home lot and the whole street if I want to in 3. Create a style and CAW where such great tools. Way more advanced than anything 4 has given us.
Lol just look at what TS3 gave us at launch for 40$. Imagine 3 times more traits, that actually do something in the game. Worlds with close to 100 lots and everything is open to explore and way deeper skills too. Even the expansion packs offer more content and depth each time. Just compare the scuba diving skill. So what makes TS4 basegame that great again? That they have improved upon the lacklusterness in 7 years? Great 👍
No it's not. It's so dead, I get bored playing households in ts4. The traits doesn't have value because the sims don't act out based on the traits selected. It lacks ganeplay. I didn't know how much gameplay it lacked until I started seeing comparison videos made about the sims2-3 vs the sims4
