I'm hoping to be able to upload more regularly than I normally have by working on these shorter documentary type videos in between the longer ones. I'm going to focus on lesser-known fighters whose stories aren't celebrated as much as they should be. Starting off with the hard-hitting Ron Lyle!
Wolverine describes the sensation of taking a punch from the Hulk: "There's no pain at first. It's like he hits ya so damn hard ya actually leave yer own body. It's when ya come back that ya feel the pain."
@@CFGrandWizard thrilla in Manila is a legendary fight! I get goosebumps watching it Frazier and Ali were willing to die to win that fight. My top three are Lyle/Foreman, Thrilla in Manila, and Holmes/Norton.
ron lyle was a savage!!! he would go toe to toe with anyone no matter how hard they hit, dude slugged it out with earnie shavers and george foreman, two of the hardest punchers in boxing history, ron feared no man!😤
He won both figths cause in the figth with george when he knockout goerge it was at the end of the 4 round so george was saved by the Bell if george was knockout a little bit sooner he would've had lost he won that figth luckily he was lucky
One of the legends that helped build the greatest era of boxing. The guy almost died in jail and came out of it to fight against Foreman, Shavers and Ali, that's the definition of talent.
Beat Shavers, knocked George down, and looked great against Ali. Pretty impressive resume. I think the fight against Ali was stopped prematurely. Just imo of course.
@@GibDozer1 Also, he started boxing 28 years old, and professionally 30, that's very late. I agree, the fight with Ali was stopped early, fighters at the time could take far more punches before the fight ended, but it didn't look good for him, he wasn't defending at all.
@@ramoncf7 Idk, I've seen guys much further gone(imo)than that come back and win. Not saying that's what would've happened here, he was certainly in danger, but not out on his feet. From what I can see at least, but I wasn't in the ring with them, the ref agreed with you.
I've said this before, I'm not a massive fan or follower of boxing. But there is something so fascinating about these stories. They tell the story of who these individuals were outside the ring, what forged them into the men they were and it follows them on that path. Although I've heard many of the names of the people you cover, i knew little about them from pop culture. This is a name I haven't heard. A short piece but so well but together with a classic style that suits the material. Fantastic.
Yeah but he wouldn't be able to do the same thing with big George Foreman.. big George Foreman was far more stronger.. ... Technically in terms of punching power George Foreman passed him.
"When people say convict, I stick my chest out. I'm something you understand... a human being." I'm fresh outta prison, first time ever trying for soberity and trying to go legit and I needed to hear that. I'm gonna reclaim my future too thanks for the video.
My Dad and I watched the George Foreman vs. Ron Lyle match live and boy it was exciting! Also watched him vs. Ali. Mr. Lyle was an excellent boxer and athlete. He turned his life around and ended on a high note.
One of my favorites. Articulate, intelligent, wise, and tough as boot leather. I was shocked when he died. I thought he'd live into his 90s. I recently read his biography "Off The Ropes", which was excellent. Strongly recommended.
Lyle is one of my most favourite boxers. His story is tremendous giving anyone motivation to become better in life. Great video as always. Rest in peace Ron.
Ron Lyle needs to be appreciated he hits hard and he had sad life but he was happy at end and didn’t do same mistakes again Rainy Day Boxing great video
Great video Rainy Day ! If Big Ron had turned pro at a younger he would have become World Heavyweight Champion. Ron was a very tough man with a real talent for combat. R I P big man.
I wish this was longer. This is the best boxing channel on RU-vid idc what nobody says. The narrator has the perfect voice for it. We need more videos Ty sir.
What a wicked surprise for this rainy Saturday in Toronto... Before this, I knew little about Ron Lyle. Crazy kool story!! Side note - the Foreman video is approaching a million views! Very happy to see your hard work pay off!! As always, wishing you and yours the very best ✌👊
What a legend. They man was Foreman's equal in power and an absolute warrior and a gentleman. The rarest kind of Champion in my humble opinion. He won inside ane outside of the ring. God bless that man.🙏🏾
Your storytelling videos are some of the best I have ever seen on RU-vid. I am not a boxing fanatic, but I do love sports, especially learning about different athletes and where they come from, and nobody does that better than you. You entertain and you educate. The material you use, the editing, the voice-over, everything is so spot on. I have found myself checking this channel constantly since I found it. Simply amazing. Keep it up g, really enjoying your content.
@Rainy Day Boxing I just ordered the book Off The Ropes that's based on Ron Lyle's life, and I can't wait to read it after I finish reading Dempsey. Work and MMA take up my life but I'm thankful for these stories that make the most intense conditioning sessions feel more like a blessing than a chore.
This is GOLD a man who made some mistakes in his life as we all do as human beings and turned his life around for the better and got to the biggest stage in what he loved a real warrior and great man Ron Lyle
THANK YOU FOR THIS , IV BEEN A FAN OF RON LYLES SINCE I WAS AROUND 12 , WATCHING THE FOREMAN AND SHAVERS FIGHT, IM 39 NOW .. VERY HARD TOO GET VHS ON LYLE BACK HERE IN ENGLAND, ... AGAIN GREAT JOB 👍🏻
The delicious left hook to the body followed immediately by the left uppercut to the chin against ali was something to behold. Mike tyson liked to perform that combo alot too. It looked so slick whenever it landed 😎
The great athletes of that era like Ron Lyle were great champions both in the ring and in life, because the chose to stand for what they believed in, both inside and outside the ring.
A real tough guy, the match against Foreman remains unforgettable, today he could easily beat all the current champions! It's just a shame about the match against Ali perhaps being interrupted too soon
Dude, when Ali sent him toward ropes it was initial of raund 11th and ali threw a myriad of power punches ron couldnt response against these and as if that werent enough his guard became down he was utterly defenseless, if Ali proceeded throwing punch rather than wave hand to referee probably ron would be either unconscious or knocked down, I find this stoppege was on right time. However this doesn't detract from what ron lyle has done throught 10 raund.
The thing to remember about Ron Lyle is that he started boxing in prison at 24 years of age. He didn't turn pro till he was 30. If this man would have had the years of professional training and started at a much earlier age, I have zero doubt he would have been a heavy weight champion, he almost got there even starting late. The fight with him a Earnie Shavers two of the hardest punchers out there was legendary.
