12:44 that is not the post fight interview after the Liston fight. It was his interview after he fought Ali the first time in 1965. To his right was Al Salvani who knew nothing and did nothing. Frank Sinatra asked Floyd to let him work in his corner that night. Sinatra was betting a lot of money on Floyd and wouldn't even talked to Floyd after the fight. Sinatra was a disgusting human being and Floyd couldn't stand him. Floyd forgave everything Sinatra did to him for what he did for Joe Louis. To his left is his brother in law and a good friend Mickey Alan who passed away just this past December. He sung the national anthem for the most of Floyd's fights back in the days.
I was an Ali fan. I didn't like that he went to jail for refusing to enlist...felt like something had been taken from him. For that reason I didn't like Frazier. The third fight was, imo, the best heavyweight battle of all time. Later I learned more of Fraziers content as a man and my respect for him has grown greater with every passing year. I think this was one of the greatest rivalries in sports.
Sonny and Ali delt with floyd very easily... Mike said Floyd had fastest hand for a heavyweight he ever saw? Yet a few years later tyson said exactly the same thing about Ali!! In fact Ali hands were much faster than floyds. Fact
No. Ali fought an old Patterson with a bad back. He was not the same guy. I still think Patterson had the fastest hands ever for HW. I think Ali had quicker feet.
Uh you maybe should’ve actually done your research. Rubin was absolutely guilty, he was also a horrible person. He assaulted an innocent woman working with his defense for literally no reason. He was nuts.
Back with another banger!!! I am a 21 year old male who practices stoicism and tries to keep his emotions in check, but when I heard " RainyDayBoxing brings you" I couldn't hold the excitement and goosebumps even of I tried. Well done on today's video. I've said before and I'll say it again this channel is severely underrated.
Thank you very much for this kind comment and support! I'm glad you have a positive reaction to my videos and I truly appreciate the lavish praise from a stoic man like yourself!
Thanks bro, this was awesome. I read his book on how to box out of a North Hollywood library a few years ago. His book had some similarities to Jack Dempseys, there's legitimacy in that cross reference I believe.
Big fan of Patterson he was just a little small for that time. I think his style was based off of Jack Dempsey's bobing weaving crouching style. Patterson was a good puncher for his size but not the most durable chin. He would of done great in the era right after Joe Louis. Guys like Liston/Foreman were to much for his size. Patterson fought ring magazines fight of the year 1965 against George Chuvalo. Great fight very close a must to watch for any boxing fan.
in person he was always happy, always smiling. He had great sense of humor. Friendly to everyone. He never took a day off saying it's a sin for him taking vacations knowing when so many people are suffering at this very time. He was visiting nursing homes and psycho words as often as he could just to be there for them because they had no one. Floyd barely says three words if you are in the same room with him ? That is not true at all. He used to talk to us kids for hours every night.
I like when people are honest and when they fight someone truly gifted they give that person recognition for it. Very respectful fighters. It takes a honest character to say to people when someone is quite good at something and it even makes you feel threatened or you can admit that the fighter is just better than you. That takes a real strength of a person to do that.
I was just looking on your channel for a Floyd Patterson documentary. And you bless me with one. This is my favorite boxing channel on RU-vid. Thanks again.
Imagine being a people taken from your country, placed into slavery for generations and then being expected to make your antagonists feel comfortable with your presence in society. Such clown logic. Respect to Floyd Patterson, and the fights he had in and out of the ring.
I think Patterson was too small to be a heavyweight even in that era. He would have been better suited to light heavyweight division. But despite his lack of size he left his mark on the heavyweight division.
10:09 what a Beautiful way to get his Title back, Floyd Patterson really did a great job at redeeming him self that night, That punch is Beautiful RIP To Floyd Patterson
He might have seemed that way especially in a crowd of people, but in person he was always happy, always smiling.
He was called The Gentleman for a reason. He was a black man that the world could be proud of back then and was humble. Sonny Liston came along and they didn't like him because he came from a rough background and he was real. Floyd Patterson's gazelle punch would put any heavyweight in history down I'm sure! I always thought that Mos Def should play Floyd Patterson in a movie if they ever made one.
