My grandfather was mistaken for Dillinger in the 30s when they were looking for him. He was driving in Chicago and a bunch of cops pulled him over with guns drawn thinking it was him. Crazy!

The Chicago police pulled my dad's car over when they saw me riding in the passenger seat, they thought I was "Baby Face Nelson" and finally my dad had to show them my birth certificate showing that I was only 22 months old. I guess they didn't recognize my mom who was in the back seat, her name was Ma Barker.

I am proud to say I was one of the architects who worked on the renovation of the theater in the early 2000s. I was in that place doing measurements and seeing the old history. Amazing place.

In case you did not get to go inside, the very seat that Dillinger sat in the night he was killed has a hard seat back, rather than the cushioned ones...it is displayed inside the Theatre
@antonioacevedo5200
@antonioacevedo5200 4 дня назад
I have serious doubts about the seat he was sitting in. How was the seat known and who verified it. I bet few people can pick the exact seat they sat in after leaving the theatre.

My uncle was a young man working in Chicago at the time, his rooms were not far from the Biograph. Word of the shooting going down spread like wildfire, and he rushed, along with many others, to the scene. Dillinger's body was gone, but the puddle of blood remained. A few women were openly dipping their handkerchiefs in the pool, I guess anxious for a gruesome souvenir, and that always stuck out in his memories.
@matthewmoneypit1558

@@hulkhoganstights6596 No. That's the story he told for years as the truth. Was he lying? I don't know, he was in Chicago at that time, I obviously wasn't. The story is real, I have no way of proving it is factual.

This is true. My uncle's family lived on the North side, a family member was in the area at the time. People were dipping handkerchiefs, pieces of paper in blood as a Souvenir. The family member didn't have a handkerchief on him at a time.. He went back home to get another family member. Came back and the police was stopping people from getting anymore "Souvenirs"

I visited a friend in Chicago in 1995. Using my Sony Handycam we recreated this last act. I ran down the sidewalk chasing my friend where she then "died" in that alley. We burst out laughing because the sidewalk was crowded and everyone thought we were nuts. Pre cell phone era fun. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

My wife and I actually visited the Biograph last year during a Chicago crime tour. It was interesting to find out that the sign of the bio graph is not the original one from when Dillinger was killed, but it was the sign that the film studio put up when filming the Public enemies movie with Johnny Depp. They filmed the movie at the same theater and they left the sign up once the film had wrapped. It felt surreal being there.

In my hometown, Michigan City, Indiana, there was always a rumor that Dillinger and Capone had homes in town. Michigan City was a place where Chicago celebrities could go where you could disappear. Now it seems to attract the gangs from Chicago and Gary, so sad

Great video, as a long time researcher of the 1933-34 Crime Wave, this is one of many places I want to visit in person. Today that area looks so ordinary, any passerby wouldn’t even have the slightest idea that the most notorious bank robber that America ever knew, took his last breaths on that sidewalk.

I just so happened to be on that street in June of 2008. They were filming Public Enemies at the time. It was so cool how they had that entire street setup. They made all the buildings look old and period correct. They put facades on them and had modern stores like a Subway restaurant with a fake windowfront with old items in it. They had the Subway signs up when the place was open for business during the day and then they'd pull em down when they were filming at night. The street was lined with rubber mats that looked like cobblestones. I remember driving by the street at night and they had a whole bunch of old cars driving on it.

Hey guys! BEFORE YOU LEAVE CHICAGO, PLEASE READ!!! I absolutely loved the series of vids u guys have been doing in Chicago! I grew up in the area (almost 43 years next month) & I have been to bachelors grove a few times, I helped do some work on the remodel of the biograph, went on a field trip to st casimir cemetery, & I've heard all sorts of stories & details about the area! You did excellent work & research!! I love how you're able to linenup shots with old photographs!!! (One of my favorite aspects, actually!) But what I am REALLY wondering about, is if you've ever heard of any of the stories surrounding the Mineola (pronounced: minnie-o-la) Bay Hotel? It's been documented as one of THE OLDEST buildings left still standing in Illinois! Rumor has it, that not only was Capone known for frequenting the place, but the St. Valentine's day massacre may have been (was) plotted there, & that there had been a retaliatory shooting there, killing a few "people" inside, as result of said massacre! It was def a frequent hangout for Capone & his guys who were doing land developments in the surrounding areas outside of certain legal jurisdictions, or even for when he [Capone] was just looking for a place out in the woods to "get away" -as the "historians" of the area would have it! 😉 (Although, those woods have mostly all long since been developed by now! Lol!) The Mineola Bay Hotel is\was dedicated a historical landmark, & that "landmark", as abandoned looking as it may be, is barely still standing! -condemned & boarded up many years ago! (Probably not even safe to go inside of anymore either? -I never tried to go in! -ironically enough! Lol!) There are also a few other ghost stories about the upper hotel aspect of the place, on top of the mob stories, so it & its legend is chocked full of "history"! There are currently rumors circulating again about having to tear it down soon, so I thought that if you were still near Chicago, being the history buffs that you are, you might want to come check out another cool, old, worn down, abandoned looking piece of Chicagoland area history, before it eventually falls prey & is lost & gone forever! Not a lot of people have done vids on this place, let alone truly covered the place & its history as "in-depth" as you guys could! -I truly believe you guys could really give it some great coverage! Heck once I learned about the place I was was surprised to find any info at all on the place! It got shut down before everything started really being put online! It kinda seems like a small miracle to just to even see or touch the place, to be honest! It's hard to believe it has survived as long as it has! It's sad too, because it almost seems fixable, until you realize there's just too many structural issues! (It even survived a fire at one point, too!) It is in Fox Lake Il. That town the hotel is in & a lot of the lil towns surrounding it throughout the 2 counties between the Wisconsin state line & Chicago, was\is the playground where all the heavyweights (both good & bad) of Chicago came to vacation in the summers, and party & ice fish in the winters! (The Chicagoland Chain of Lakes!) So there are all sorts of cool houses, stories & things in the area to check out in the area for content! & Now that the leaves are down, you may be able to get some really good shots! Esp. if you have a drone, for shots towards land off the lake(s)! There's also a place called Blarneys Island which is a bar that's only open in the summer & only accessible by boat which has a rich sorta mob related history as well! It's also said to be haunted by an owner who lost the place in a card game & killed himself in the back room. I even know one of the former owner lady's! They do boat drag racing on thursday nights from 5 till 7\8... & It may be worth a trip back up this way in the summer to check all of that out as well! Hope you guys are intrigued enough to wanna dig around, and maybe go scope things out! I kinda live in the area there, but i don't really make any content, i just help support the cause! Lol! I've never sat down with the lady who once owned blarneys and picked her brain about the old stories about the place, but she told me a few, & says she has many more! Although, there are a lot of stories around here, on top of her stories, that are kinda "well known" common urban knowledge around these parts! -Idk, maybe Icould ask her if she'd be up to talking about her time there, if need be? 🤷 Either way, -Great stuff!! I absolutely love your channel, and I can't wait to see what's next! Sorry about the long, drawn out diatribe, see you guys in the next one! ✌️

Interesting and well done telling the John Dillinger story. I’d always heard the woman was wearing red, but maybe not. I’m hoping to visit that spot, maybe as early as in the coming spring. Keep up the good work, and continued success.

@@grimmlifecollective awesome, thank you! I’ve been using an a7rii for my photography for the past 5-6 years so I’m thinking it’s time for an upgrade. Cheers!
