#1 New York Times bestselling author John Grisham delivers high-flying international suspense in a stunning new legal thriller that marks the return of Mitch McDeere, the brilliant hero of The Firm.
What became of Mitch and Abby McDeere after they exposed the crimes of Memphis law firm Bendini, Lambert & Locke and fled the country? The answer is in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller. It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world. When a mentor in Rome asks him for a favor that will take him far from home, Mitch finds himself at the center of a sinister plot that has worldwide implications-and once again endangers his colleagues, friends, and family. Mitch has become a master at staying one step ahead of his adversaries, but this time there’s nowhere to hide.
John Ray Grisham Jr. (/ˈɡrɪʃəm/; born February 8, 1955)[1][2] is an American novelist, lawyer, and former member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, known for his best selling legal thrillers. According to the American Academy of Achievement, Grisham has written 37 consecutive number-one fiction bestsellers, and his books have sold 300 million copies worldwide.[3] Along with Tom Clancy and J. K. Rowling, Grisham is one of only three authors to have sold two million copies on the first printing.[4][5]
Grisham graduated from Mississippi State University and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1981. He practised criminal law for about a decade and served in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1983 to 1990.[6]
Grisham's first novel, A Time to Kill, was published in June 1989, four years after he began writing it. It was later adapted into the 1996 feature film of the same name. Grisham's first bestseller, The Firm, sold more than seven million copies,[1] and was also adapted into a 1993 feature film of the same name, starring Tom Cruise, and a 2012 TV series which continues the story ten years after the events of the film and novel.[7] Seven of his other novels have also been adapted into films: The Chamber, The Client, A Painted House, The Pelican Brief, The Rainmaker, The Runaway Jury, and Skipping Christmas.[8]

Totally agree! Big Grisham fan! This one totally disappointed me. The Reckoning, The Testament, and The Pelican Brief are my favorite Grisham books. Good review!

I wish I was more of a reader cause so many of the books to talk about sounds good. On another note, I like the humorous clips you added in to the review.

I'm glad I wasn't drinking coffee when you said this book has ED. That's really too bad. I have spent a lot of years enjoying several of Grisham's novels. I've noticed either a decline in his writing or a decline in my interest in his stories for at least the last ten years. The most recent book I've tried to get through is The Associate(I think). It's ok so far, but I keep putting it down. Favorite Grisham novel? Hmmm, maybe The Firm, The Partner, or Runaway Jury. I loved several of his earlier novels. The Broker--which is pretty old--is the last one I remember really enjoying. Favorite movie... man, it has to be A Time to Kill. The Firm and the Pelican Brief were great. But I don't think anything got me emotionally as much as A Time to Kill.

If you had been drinking coffee, it would have been a fun TikTok to watch.

"A Time to Kill" and "The Client" are my favorite books. I'm reading this one right now, and struggling to get through it. I started watching reviews to see if it was going to redeem itself. I'm not even sure I'll finish this book.

Hello, Mr. Phil!!! Hearing about the mediocre feedback from readers about this book, along with the hype, I was hoping that Grisham, for THE EXCHANGE, would place his own spin or remix on the first WALL STREET movie and either portray Mitch as a villian or an ambiguous formula that Hollywood did with Al Pacino's character in the movie INSOMNIA. It seemed that my suggestion would have been more of a step in the right direction for Grisham. Thanks for the review, Mr. Brian!!!

This was such a missed opportunity for him. So many good novelists seem a shell of their former self creatively. The characters seemed empty.

You are so on point! I only found you cause for me the book stunk, and I wanted to see what others thought. It is hard to believe John Grisham is the one who wrote "The Exchange", it is just boring and bad!!! I admit I had to skip some chapters making my way to the end, the book was that awful. BTW, I could not care less about Mitch and Abby!!!!

Totally agree!....As a Libyan citizen, I have found so many flaws on the plot, particularly as it is heavily relying on "historical facts and personalities"......Reserching was very poor..... ignorant audiance who no nothing about countries other than their own can probably like it...

Just listening to your sighs... I think I will skip this one and I was just talking about Grisham stating how I think he has lost his oomph with the last 2 novels I listened to..my fave would have to be the ones where you can see the movie playing in your head while reading😂. If that makes any type of sense.😂😂😂❤

I had more notes to cover about the story, but just didn't. I think the biggest issue was the characters didn't carry any weight or realness that inspired me to care much about them one way or another. Thank you for watching and commenting.

This is a ridiculous excuse of a book by Grisham. Totally crapped on the memory of Mitch and Abby is this garbage. Agree with your ED rating on this one.

I have read all of JG's books...I have enjoyed most and have always liked the characters and storytelling style BUT, I really was disappointed in the exchange. The characters are unremarkeable, unlikeable, and a lot of the dialogue is cliche, banal, and/or irrelevant. The story is terribly boring, DOA, and did I say Boring & cliche. Worst is the label of this book as a "sequel" to the Firm which was a deliciously interesting read.
