Boethius was renowned in the Middle Ages as a translator of Aristotle, and the author of the Consolation of Philosophy.
This he wrote while wrongfully imprisoned for accounts of treason and magic. He was an orator, poet, musician, and senator. Once the sole Consul for Theodoric, the Ostrogoth King over Italy at the time (493-526 CE)
Boethius sought to reconcile Aristotle and Plato from a Christian faith. In the Consolation, he makes no reference to major Christian themes. Rather he relies on Platonic and other Greek traditions to present his path to peace prior to impending execution.
Boethius did write at least three Christian-oriented tractates, unifying the Trinity and writing theological arguments. These are extant.
Boethius begins with a mystical vision of Lady Philosophy who sits at the edge of his couch. A series of dialogues begins between a despairing Boethius and Lady Philosophia, written with interspersed poetic verses.
Fortune (Fortuna, a Roman Goddess) and its unpredictable wheel become one of the themes in the Consolation.
Boethius was executed in 524, either by the swords of Theodoric’s soldiers or by the club of an executioner. He later received honors equal to Martyrs. His remains are entombed in San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro, in Pavia, Italy.
This video approaches a few of the themes found in Boethius' last year of literature.

“Indeed, the condition of human nature is just this; man towers above the rest of creation so long as he realizes his own nature, and when he forgets it, he sinks lower than the beasts. For other living things to be ignorant of themselves, is natural; but for man it is a defect.” - Boethius (d. 524 CE)

Best channel on RU-vid. This channel, Agrippas Diary, and Esoterica are carrying the entire occult space on RU-vid.

@@swagsurfer03Because Sepehr is a weiner, lol. Sepehr got dinged by RU-vid because Dr Sledge caught him using Esoterica's content on one of his Conspiracy videos. This channel is *actual* scholarship, as is Esoterica. Sepehr is History Channel specials mixed with "no nut" philosophy, Atlantis, and "The Nazis were on to something" bullshit. He gets zero points and makes people dumber.

@@swagsurfer03 Robert is too focused on race and his blonde hair blue eyes crap. If only he could focus more on what really matters not race.

Beautifully done and inspiring. Boethius has been a companion of mine for many years. A great philosopher who wrote in a manner that allows the profoundest teachings of philosophy to be accessible and transformative. I see the teachings of Boethius as a demonstration that philosophy is, at its heart, salvific when its truths and way of life are followed. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for this beautiful presentation on Boethius who has been a companion in my life for many years. I think that what Boethius reveals to the reader is that Philosophy is salvific; I mean that in its ancient understanding philosophy was understood to have redemptive power. That aspect of philosophy seems to have been lost in our time, but Boethius offers the salvific wisdom of philosophy to those who are open to it. Thanks again.

"Diluted tenants of the Christian faith as passed down by Catholic Rome or Orthodoxy" as in two faiths (mostly Catholicism since he was a westerner) that draw their academics directly from Boethius, venerate him as a saint, and were the ones to preserve him and his thinking as to allow his modern readers the context in which to understand him. Come on lol

Beautiful stuff. I always love it when the philosophical meets the mystical. I'd heard of Boethius' name a few times, but have never looked into his philosophy before. Now I want to read all his stuff.

The story remains much the same as the Jesus story. Sometimes holding to what is right gets you punished, and so be it. Better to be true to yourself and the good and be punished then betray yourself. God bless any who share in this knowledge.

The reason this text is so great is because he put very little christian elements into. Its mostly a classic pagan work which makes it much more interesting. Its hard to stomach a philosopher when uses his Christianity as a crutch to his works. That is just me. I have a strong lifelong aversion to anything Judeo Christian.
