That would be Stallone. Originally, he wanted Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis to be part of the main team, but Arnold was busy as a politician, and Bruce wasn't interested, so he got Jason Statham and Jet Li to take their place. It worked out in the end. Arnold and Bruce at least got to join in the fun in the second one.
@@TimmyJEuchida The recoil suppression system that makes it accurate and usable by anyone makes it even more insane. Its a shame they are very expensive, very rare, and very hard to even qualify to be allowed to own one legally.
With all the great classic movies you guys have watched so far, you can imagine and appreciate how long anyone growing up watching 80s and 90s action movies had been dreaming about finally seeing Sly, Arni and Bruce sharing a scene in the same movie.
Favorite part is Stallone and Arnold referencing each others movies and especially Arnold as president (referencing Demolition Man). I was laughing so hard. LOL!!!
30:06 There's a clip on youtube that I saw where Stallone got hurt from slamming into the dirt like this and I think something in his upper back, shoulder or neck got hurt/came 'loose' at that moment and he left and went straight to the doctor. They looked at the x-rays/scans and something was out of place and needed to be reattached. If I remember correctly, Stallone waited to have surgery until after filming was complete because of a long recovery time and he didn't want everyone to have to wait.
Yes when him/Steve have the fight at the end he got seriously hurt. Steve 2 this day feels really bad about hurting Sly. Sly just recently had his 7th back surgery. He just spoke somewhere and told them “don’t do your own stunts” He did the majority of his own stunts and is now physically paying the price
They may be Older, but there aren't any Young Action stars like these anymore. Even the "Nice Guys" of the 80's/90's like Keanu (John Wick) are more Badass than any of Today's "Gangsta's".
The film series that gave us the term "Geriaction Hero". These guys are pretty smart, for the most part and VERY self-aware. Stallone knows what he's doing behind the camera. It's a friggin' hoot. I was not expecting Citizen Kane...
To my knowledge only two actors playing Expendables have real life military experience: Dolph Lundgren (he served one year in the Swedish Coastal Artillery) and Randy Couture (served six years in the 101st Airborne ).
That gun is the AA-12. Just an amazing auto shotgun. Things is actually even louder in real life. And you can use any ammo, such as incendiary rounds. Which is just overkill at that point LOL.
The gun you admire is an AA-12 with grenade rounds. You can purchase a civilian semi-automatic version for about $3,500 (you can't have a full-auto AA-12 without an FFL).
4:35 That's Randy Couture. And the song playing is "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" by The Georgia Satellites, an excellent 80's One-Hit Wonder. 8:07 No way, Man. Eric Roberts is The Best Of The Best (1989). 8:30 The Fan-Service here is Legendary. 11:05 "I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cowbell". Mountain - Mississippi Queen is an awesome and under-known tune these days. 20:35 For me, Statham is the biggest draw, and this scene doesn't disappoint.
The whole trilogy. Expendables, Expendabler, Expendablest! I like how Terry Crews always comes out with the big guns. First time seeing him lobbing the shell reminded me of him launching a medicine ball at Damon Wayans.
By the way i'm sure you know that already, but the guy at 4:37 is Randy Couture, mma legend, former ufc double champ and arguably one of the best fighters of all time!
Finally you've entered an action movie lover's dream come true in the making since the 1990s. One of the hardest films that Stallone has ever made as an action star and filmmaker. Right after Rocky Balboa (2006) and Rambo 4 (2008). Co-written and created by David Callaham:Godzilla (2014),rewrite of Ant-Man (2015), Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings (2021), Spider-Man:Across The Spider Verse (2023). The cast, chemistry, filmmaking and action sequences are superb. So many homages to the action genre. If you can spot them out, you know what they mean. The sequels are magnificent. The upcoming EX4 looks great. If you watching them all, strap on tight. Watch out for the debris and shrapnel.
30:06 Stallone did break his neck when he landed here. He had to have a metal plate put in after filming was finished. Austin felt horrible but Stallone had told him to really hit him into the wall. Austin also had his neck broken during his wrestling career.
I love Jason Statham. If you haven’t seen his transporter series you should watch that. Also his remake of death race is really good (like he’s cut hard good).
I remember having a great time watching this in the theater. As a 80's and 90's kid, going to see most of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Willis action movie, this was an action movie lovers dream come true. Some people were disappointed to the point of even hating this movie, which I honestly don't get. I got exactly what I expected out of this. Old school action, awesome fights, fuel by testosterone with a little classic rock in the mix. That Mickey Roark scene is very well acted. Him and Sly must become buddies after Get Carter, which I've always felt was an underrated movie. Eric Roberts also played a bad guy in Stallone's The Specialist, in which James Woods is a scene stealer. Please check out those flicks sometime. Especially 1993's Cliffhanger. One of the best action thrillers of the 90s. Love your reactions, guys.
So happy you guys are watching The Expendables! One of my favorite movie series ever. You should absolutely checkout Inferno, the feature-length documentary on how this movie was made. Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed this movie as well as starring in it, and watching him and the way he thinks about every little detail is super duper awesome. He was 63 and a half while making this, and fractured his neck fighting with Steve Austin. He also was getting over bronchitis, had shingles, and about 14 other injuries while making this movie yet he didn't stop. Stallone is the definition of badass. He never gives up even when things are really really tough, whether Rocky or Rambo or The Expendables. Can't wait for you to react to the other two!
*Give this job to my friend here, he loves playing in the jungle* I think that was a jab at Rambo, but Arnie must have forgotten that he played in the jungle too. (Predator)
@@DaviniaHill was watching an interview with him talking about that movie and scene. He's the one that said it's where he got his start. He was talking about how that scene wasn't even in the script but he pitched it and Sly wrote it in. He said people cheered in the theater during that scene. He then went on to say he got work because of this role. It doesn't really matter what we remember it's about what got him work and according to him this was it.
Thr manliest man movie ever made. If actuon and adventure had a baby, this would be it. Saw this in the theater and when the shotgun scene came on, it was so loud you couldnt hear the yelling and clapping. It was completely awesome.
At 30:47 The AA -12 (Auto Assault-12), originally designed and known as the Atchisson Assault Shotgun, is an automatic combat shotgun developed in 1972 by Maxwell Atchisson. Barrel length: 457 mm (18.0 in) Cartridge: 12 Gauge Feed system: 8 round box magazine, and 20 or 32 round in drum magazine Rate of fire: 300 rounds/min
For the Mrs....the weapon Crews was using in the final battle, is indeed a fully-automatic shotgun. It's called the AA-12. It was developed by the Atchison company, in 1972. It is now manufactured by Military Police Systems, Inc. It has a cyclic rate of 300 rounds/minute, from either an 8-round box mag, or a 20-round drum mag.
The automatic shotgun is an Atchisson AA-12, unique and fascinating, unfortunately never produced in large numbers because the US military decided against it.
I believe the shotgun they're using is the AA12 with a bigger clip possibly, but yes, great shotgun that looks and shoots like a rifle but shotgun spread. I'm glad you guys are going to watch them all
The movie (series) instantly jumped into my favourites of the genre, I'm not against another re-watch yet and it's been a few. "What happened? - I got my ass kicked". While it's over the top and with a wink and a nudge, it's got tiny little moments that make it more "real" and making sense than many "serious" productions, like when it's hand-to-hand, but when Christmas gets thrown and the opponent is aiming to aim his AR - there's no bullshit moves, but the most motion and time effective: he shoots with a pistol guy's kneecaps (every tenth of a second comes, no time waster on raising the gun or self to aim higher) and kills him when the AR threat is thus gone. Brilliant, amazing - I think Jacko himself would have done the same. Next installments are each more over the top than the previous one, but they still get these precious little moments of relatable real effectiveness. I'm really hoping 4 will be like Mr Christmas here ("I was worth the wait").
22:53: not gonna lie, if just random, in the middle of the film, Stone Cold just gave her a random stunner instead of hitting her, that would have been hilarious❤😂😂soo many viewers would have been like “did stone cold just give her the stunner ?!?!” 😂
I am gonna straight up comment this whoever knows THE EXPANDABLES is my freind without introduction watching all the action heroes i watched in my childhood line up in a team was nothing short of mind blowing they might be old but they are fit strong and bad ass than most
Anyone else hoping they do a reaction series of Sons of Anarchy? I’m really surprised they don’t have reactions to 1. Sons of Anarchy 2. Breaking Bad 3. Game of Thrones
First off sorry for the long post Fun useless facts about this movie. 1) Steve Austin actually broke Stallone necks (not intentionally obviously) and Stallone continued to work for another two months before getting it fixed with surgery. 2) Mickey Rourke stated he will always be grateful to Stallone for giving him the job. Because he had burned bridges with everyone in the film industry. He stated he would have worked for scale but, Stallone made sure he got paid as well as everyone else. And finally Expendables 3 is the hand-off to Christmas (Jason Statham) being the focus of all of the future Expendables movies. So, most likely no more Stallone which, considering his age is understandable.
9/10 Everything an Action Movie should be, times 2! Get ready to cheer. Be ready to laugh. Be ready to be amazed with wonderful, live action fighting scenes using everything from fists, to blades, to guns. I don't know how this movie avoided being cheesy, but darn it, it did! Mindless explosions? Not really. Excessive? Again, not really. I hate the sort of climax usually seen in an action movie where the pyrotechnics are the show. I want to see the actors/stunt-men doing their thing. I want to see people. I can see fireworks on the Fourth of July. (Though, trust me, there ARE fireworks in this movie, too.) The balancing of this many stars is incredible and pulled off remarkably well. When Sylvester Stallone made his final Rocky movie (Rocky Balboa), he said he did it as a "thank you" to the fans. Maybe that was the idea behind this one, too, though I heard a quote from somewhere that after seeing wimpy Tobey Maguire as "Spiderman" full of CGI and a stuffed/padded suit, he realized action heroes like himself were, well, expendable. This is fantasy baseball and fantasy rock-n-roll camp for adults all rolled into a wonderful action flick with enough of a plot to give the characters motivation for their action. A deep plot? Heck no. A predictable plot? Certainly. But trust me, if you thought you've seen it all before, you have yet to see "The Expendables." Thank you Mr. Stallone!
8:30 I believe this was just after Arnold Governator, so he could be in film again. Man respect this trio. Great jab by Arnold at the end. Sly wrote it.
well Artist are the ones to use Art as Secret Hidden Messages for targeted Location Attacks and also as a Symbol for recruitment to become a Resistant Fighter...that is why in the past Artist were the first to be taken away whenever a dictator took control of a town/country.
I went into this movie with zero expectations of a decent story and just raw action, we got the raw action, but we also got a decent story tying it all together.
Giselle Itie actually did the waterboarding scene herself, to give it realism. Mickey Rourke was filming Iron Man 2 at the time during his scenes for this movie, so his hair coloring and tattoos are the same because he didn't have time between sets to change his appearance. The weapon Caesar had, was an AA-12. Fully automatic shotgun with a 20 or 32 round drum magazine. Truly terrifying.
(0:35) The second one is my favorite but all of them are really good in my opinion.😎👍 Also it feels like a shame that Clint Eastwood Isn't in any of them, even if it is a small part.🤔
Dolph Lundgren used a 203 grenade launcher for the blowing the man in half. The scene where Stone Cold speared Stalone it broke his neck. Stalone had to have pins put in his neck because of it.
The AA12 is the military toy you might be able to buy 1 for about 4K they where talking about making a civilian version that is semi auto but don't know what happened to that idea
30:30 Yes, that is the face everyone should make when encountering an AA-12 full auto shotgun. The only thing with more firepower at close range is a minigun.
30:08 So during this fight Stallone kept saying that he wanted more from Stone Cold. They had already done 2 takes and Stallone's back was getting the brunt of it. So this take Austin gave him his all and Stallone's back broke. Well 2 vertebrae cracked at least. Shooting had to be shutdown for like 6 weeks or something.
While that gun is really really cool, that drum only holds 20 rounds. I’ve never counted it, but that’s a lot more than 20. They do make hundred round drums, but they’re a lot bigger than that and they’re incredibly hard to carry as opposed to magazines you can fit a whole bunch of magazines in a vest, but a cylindrical drum takes up a lot more room.
It's so funny when you're Spanish and you hear how the Hispanic characters talk XD they didn't grew talking Spanish, I can assure you xDD I don't know why they don't pick actors who talk English and native Spanish, there are thousands in Hollywood
Awesome reaction guys and great series you;ve started, you should also check out The Losers which came out around this time unfortunately this all star cash blew them away even though it was an awesome action adventure. Keep it coming :)
Thanks for this guys! This was cool! I cant wait till you do part 2. My fave from the franchise. Mrs. MOVIE....GOOD Choice on your fave expendable...my fave was jason and fave kill was Jason kicking down on oh boy's kneck
