Kabza, who was a deep house producer, got into the mix when Gaba would call kabza and mfr and other gents to gigs when they were booked. Maphorisa is not an amapiano pioneer. It is a lie. If he was an amapiano pioneer he would drop his own music.

Problem with artists being an artist myself, I've noticed their love and rush for Fame makes them lazy and incompetent when it comes to the business side of things, artists are literally like kids who expect to be spoon fed that's why their careers are so flimsy they aren't hands on with their own careers! And Maporisa once said something interesting on IG and I understand how he moves, he said an artist wants to come here use all my equipment for free push their own career and think I won't get a cent? I understood right then what he was saying, Guys nothing is for free in this industry don't just think you'll walk into a studio for free because your TALENTED and just blow up? I've seen how artists are so gullible and selfish in that sense. Build your own 💩 and own your royalties stop thinking your talent will pay the bills overnight. I understand what you're saying, and I partially agree with you. But from my viewpoint, from the moment an artist creates something originated from his own creativity and talent, he should (at least and automatically) deserve 50% of the profits of his work. Of course, the guy who provided the equipment, the environment, the marketing, exposure and all of that deserves a big cut as well. Maybe there is some information lacking from my side. But AFAIK, what DJ Maphorisa did was to take it all to himself, just based on the fact that the other guy resorted to his capital, electricity and all of that. And if my understanding is right, then Maphorisa is a very egotistic, dishonest and greedy man.

The Music Industry is the Music Industry! In 2024 artists cant blame anyone other then themselves for being "robbed". Understand the business and you'll be fine. Phori is not doing anything different for what SONY, Universal, Bad Boy, Kalawa and many other record labels have been doing for years. He understands the business, he learnt the business while at Kalawa, you cant blame him, at the end of the day what he's doing is not illegal.. It's just business.

Maphorisa means that if music is produced in your studio you own 100% mechanical rights. But mechanical rights are not all rights there are on the song. There’s still rights pertaining performance, writing lyrics, and playing instruments.

Artists should seek advice from professionals(lawyers) before signing contracts. What I see here is Artists who are just excited to work with these established DJs and they rush to sign these contracts without fully understanding the finer details of those contracts.

I like your approach and take on the whole #AmaPiano #DjMaphorisa and #KabzaDeSmall music business scenario, but let me enlighten you about the reality of these so-called "successful" artists who are supposedly getting screwed over by record companies... most of them never bothered to learn about the music industry business, all they cared about was writing & recording a "killer track" in the hope of becoming the genre's next best thing without even having a Management, Legal, Financial, PR or Marketing Team behind them. They thought that what was good for Phorry was good for them but they never made the preliminary investments that either Phorry or Kabza made, yet they 'expected' what was never theirs or even promised... the music industry is a business, and like any other business, there's production costs which have to he recovered first before any product can be deemed 'profitable'. Some of these products (aka songs) made losses which were not advertised either due to bootlegging or pirate downloads whereas these guys believe they've made it (and are owed royalties) when no one actually paid for their mp3 songs and no money was collected.

If you work hard to build a brand, then buy your own studio, cameras and computers to edit videos. Then someone want to make thier podcast using all those and also get your input and direction. Do you want to do that for free? No upfront payment, no split on ad profits? If so, then is Mac-G letting those other podcasts do it for free or has he signed them like they are his artists basically, and how much is he splitting with them? The problem is when small children try to talk business sitting from far far outside. Its very simple, buy you own stuff, record and distribute by yourself. Guys there's nothing wrong with being under record labels to push ur fame faster. Jus be smart, read ur contracts and make sure u own ur royalties. Make sure there is a deposit agreement and a certain pay out ya every month and a certain percentage u get from ur music, every song u produce. Also include in that contract that after a certain whatever years u can buy your music back. Nipsey Hussle did the same thing. Don't be dumb to these people offering to pay for ur stuff, like buying u cars, houses and etc. Bao reka ka style and u can't even get out bcos ke debt. Wen u wanna leave they gonna say pay up. Otloreng wena???? Just read ur contracts and remember nothing in that contract is written in stone if u haven yet signed it. So u can change the clauses and add ur own so that u can also be secure also make sure to write a will and a person who will inherit all that incase something happens to u bcos these people kill eachother. People should understand that every label exploits their artists it's part of the game. If you look at what Suge did for all of his artists, he deserved the money he took.
